I have only just bought Nexgard for my Border Collie. I should have read the reviews before paying $47.00 all up including a very costly delivery. Now I’m too frightened to give it to him. There are some good reviews but it seems the more I read, the more negative they are. I might just give him half and wait a couple of days to see how he goes.

Nexgard spectra is a good product. We used to have our dogs on simparica trio which was making them sick every month. But nexgard spectra is great with no issues for our dogs. We recommend nexgard spectra. Show details

I'm Convinced Nexgard Spectra Killed My Whippet Puppy – A week ago we gave our 6 month old Whippet Puppy a single monthly dose of Nexgard Spectra. Within 24 hours she was "ticking" and having tremors which progressed over the next few days into uncontrollable tremors /ataxia. We have been to the vet numerous times and have been treating her symptomatically with multiple medications. As of yesterday we… Read more

thought we might have been through the worst of it as she wasn't getting any worse. This morning she went into a massive rolling seizure and we rushed her to after hours emergency. The seizure lasted way too long. The Vets couldn't control it and after a day of fighting we made the decision to put her to sleep after she started displaying signs of organ damage.

We are distraught.

Prior to the Nexgard treatment she was a 100% healthy, genetically sound, vibrant puppy. We eliminated all environmental and parasitic factors as being the cause. Her blood tests in the early stages were perfect. I have spoken to Nexgard, they basically refuse to entertain the idea that it could have been the cause, but then also wont dismiss it entirely. My vet spoke to them and regurgitated the same DATED side effect statistics they told him and then said it is very hard to prove.

All said and done. One day my puppy was perfect and a week later DEAD after a Nexgard treatment. Never again.

*In the pursuit of fairness, I will add that our other puppy, a 7 month old Australian Shepherd was treated at the same time and is 100% fine with no side effects. However he will never be receiving Nexgard again. Many of the negative reviews online (How I wish I did my due diligence before using this product) suggest that severe reactions may occur after multiple doses. The chances of acute side effects are most likely incredibly rare, but to me now, not worth the risk.

DO NOT BUY! TOOK VARNISH OFF COFFEE TABLE – I bought the 2.5-7.5kg for use on my cats, not dogs but everyone should be aware. A few drops got spilt on the coffee table and a nintendo switch controller and it took off some of the varnish and melted the plastic from just a few drops! I cannot believe I just put this on my cats! Show details

Avoid at all costs! – I would love to give this product a minus if I could. I have an 8 month old toy poodle. My little fur ball has been experiencing vomiting, diarrhoea, lack of energy and appetite. After putting two and two together I’ve just link this to NexGard spectra. Every time I would give him the correct dosage he’s been not well. I can only pray I… Read more

haven’t caused him any long term damage to his liver and kidneys. Please avoid this product all all costs for the sake of your pet’s health.

My Havanese now has liver issues after 3 doses (within 3 months) – My Havanese puppy (who was normally very playful, active and had great appetite) received his 1st dose of this when he was about 6 months as recommended by his vet. I noticed he lost his normal appetite on day 1, but did not pay much attention to this as he seemed to gain his appetite again on day 2. Come 2nd dose of this and my puppy seemed a bit… Read more

more lethargic, did not want to eat or drink for about 2 days, and was not really wanting to do much but lay down. I was starting to get alarmed, but the vet reassured me that this Nexgard Spectra is definitely safe and that puppies get tummy bugs every now and then and he should be alright and back to his old normal self in a day or 2. It took him about 5 days to recover after the 2nd dose. Time for the 3rd dose, and I was still trying to believe the vet that this could not possibly harm him and that this is for his own good considering the dangers of dog parasites that are around as per the vet's words of reassurances. After the 3rd dose, my puppy was terribly sick, vomited a few times (bile-looking vomits), was very lethargic not wanting to do anything but lay down, not wanting to eat or drink, had bloody diarrhoea, and looking really sick for almost about a week. So this really alarmed me and took my dog to a different vet and insisted that they do a blood test as I did not believe the vet when she said it may just some random belly bug. This particular vet also insisted that she hasn't heard any reports of issues about the Nexgard Spectra, and in fact it is best for the dogs to receive this for their own safety from dog parasites. Anyway, the results of my puppy's blood tests came back and his liver enzymes were abnormal. The vet then suggested that we do the blood test again in 3 weeks time just to see if the liver enzymes may be back to normal. Unfortunately, it was still abnormal. I have never given him Nexgard Spectra again after the 3rd dose as I really believed it had damaged his liver after 3 doses. He had since been referred to specialist vet, (who by the way is also saying there is nothing wrong with Nexgard), and has had ultrasound as well as an abdominal exploratory laparotomy (by now costing a few thousands of $$$$$). The findings from his ultrasound and exploratory laparotomy is that he has almost non-existent gallbladder and that he has liver disease on its early stage. His liver enzymes are still out of whack (even though he is on few different medications to try and correct this) 5 months later, and my poor puppy who turned 1 last January, is still experiencing on and off episodes of lethargy, bile-vomiting, diarrhoea, not wanting to eat or drink, or not wanting to do what he normally likes to do (zooming or running around, playful). I firmly believe that this was all because of this Nexgard Spectra. He was fine until I started giving this to him as per vet's recommendation. Now, I don't know how long I will have him for, or if he will soon start having seizures as his liver starts to get worse. I'm heartbroken (including the rest of my family) that this has happened to our Havanese. He has brought so much happiness to our household since we brought him home. Seeing him gets sick on & off just about every other week break my and my family's hearts. For now we still have him, and on good days when he isn't sick and he is back to his bouncy, playful and loving self, we appreciate him even more. I really hope that the medications (the vets are trying out a few to see which will work best with him) help him to feel well again.

In hindsight, I should have listened to the breeder whom I bought my puppy from. She warned me not to put my puppy on Nexgard Spectra and just give him a separate tablets for intestinal worms & a different tablet or injection for heartworms, & just use an anti-tick collar. Because according to her, these breeds of little dogs don't tolerate Nexgard Spectra well and she also said that she had one of her puppy died from it at around 1 year old after giving it Nexgard monthly. Hence she's never used this tablet on any of her dogs again since then. However, all vets I have spoken with does not agree with this. It makes me wonder why? After reading all these reviews on here, I'm really wondering why no vets are paying attention to us who have dogs which have had these issues with it.

My dog is very elderly. Up until this year, we used the basic NexGard, wormed him and took him to the vet for his yearly injections. This year we have been using NexGard Spectra and it has been very successful. Our dog is happy to eat the chews.

Been giving this product to my 10 month old Iggy since she was old enough to take it. She recently had to go to the vet as she had explosive bloody diahrroea. They took a stool sample about found antigens for hookworm, tapeworm, roundworm, and giadia. Useless. Show details

I can't tell the effectiveness of the chew. I give it a ONE since it was formulated 'NOT DOG friendly' in my words My puppy didn't like it since day one which surprised me!!!! reviews which other dog owners had thesame challenge. To Nexguard, my suggestion is to test it on different breed of dogs and improve the product. Think about it, a dog chew which dogs dislike. Absolutely it is a failure, isn't it?

I used this product to protect my pet against all the nasty bugs worms ticks etc,as I thought this was the best in the market. But unfortunately failed to do so and my little dog became very ill for weeks, after many visits to the veterinary clinic, tests came back as positive for round worms. I was so disappointed with nexguard as it didn’t deliver as promised on the packaging. Show details

Didn't protect our dogs from heartworm – Absolutely devastated! We adopted our 2 goldens back in 2020, and after a full health check with blood work, they were both given a clean bill of health. We started them straight on NexGard & HeartGard, then changing over to Spectra in Nov 2021 ... Fast forward to today 22 Jan 2025, just came back from the specialist (referred there by our vet… Read more

after one of them had been coughing for a few days) and both have tested positive for heart worm! ... Treatment costs will range between $2,000 - $5,000 per dog depending on x-rays & scans. Of course we will do the treatment, but I was under the mistaken impression that Spectra would provide full protection.

Nexgard should be banned – Nexgard Spectra gave my puppy diarrhea, vomiting and seizures. No warning from vets or at time of purchase from Pet shops. Check the side effects as these flea and tick prevention products have killed thousands of dogs, just google Nexgard side effects and adverse reactions, it’s Russian roulette if your dog reacts or not. These seizures are ongoing and seem permanent for 2 years now. I wish I was warned not to use this poison on our puppy. Show details

Avoid – Our two dogs were prescribed this for the first time and I wish they hadn’t. Within 48 hours our pug was unstable on her back legs and was parting with chemical smelling diarrhoea. react. Same symptoms. 3 weeks on and we had to rush him to the vets as he was unstable on his back legs and the diarrhoea had started again. Evil stuff. The vets didn’t charge for the follow up appointments so that tells you everything you need to know.

Update - it took 6 months for our dogs to recover fully. Our vets spoke to the product helpline and they admitted it was a side effect but as it was in the small print, there was no legal recourse. We weren’t charged for the follow-up appointments. The people leaving reviews telling you not to listen to negative reviews are irresponsible. Their experiences may have been different but the reviews on here have a common theme and are also based on experience, so think very carefully and do your own research before making a decision. It took 6 months for my larger dog to regain full use of his back legs and plenty of vet supplied paste in their food to balance gut flora until the diarrhoea stopped.

Recommended – After reading all negative reviews here I was scared to buy this product . I rang my vet and enquired about this product . They advised not to worry and buy this product . I gave my 6 months old chihuahua and he liked it . I gave him 3 days ago and so far he is perfectly fine . No side effects noticed . He has been eating well , playing and sleeping well . I would recommend to talk to your vet and make decisions . Show details ·  1
