Philips Avent 3 in 1 Electric Steam Steriliser Questions & Answers
Verifiedmy maid accidentally placed too much water in the water reservoir. what happens and do i need to do anything?
Hello Lawrence, Thank you for your question regarding the Philips Avent 3 in 1 Electric Steam Steriliser. For your steriliser, fill the water reservoir with exactly 3.5 oz. of tap water. Do not use more water than recommended to avoid the water reservoir from overflowing during use. If you use less water than recommended, the steaming cycle will finish too early.
If you need further assistance, please contact us at 0800 658 224 (NZ), Monday to Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., or 1300 363 391 (AU), Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST.

Hi, The water in my steriliser used to evaporate so when I finish sterilising the bottles the water is not there anymore. But for the past few weeks after sterilising the bottles all the water is still there?
Hi Roa, Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear that you are facing issue with your Philips Avent sterilizer. Please note that the water remains on the heating plate after sterilizing because the heating plate may be blocked by the limescale. We recommend you to descaled the sterilizer at least every 2 weeks.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact us through 0800 658 224 (NZ) from Monday -Friday: 09:00 am -09:00 pm and 1300 363 391 (AU) Monday -Friday: 07:00 am -07:00 pm EST.
Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team
I have descaled it thrice using citric acid but still there are limescale marks on the heat plate
Try a little bit of vinegar and water.
Hi, faiza. Thanks for reaching out. We are sorry to see the citric acid is not working. Please try this other method: pour 100ml of white vinegar mixed with 200ml cold water into sterilizer. Allow it to stand in the unit until the lime scale has dissolved – DO NOT SWITCH ON - Drain and rinse unit. Run a full cycle with baskets/racks inside and lid on using exactly 90ml of water. If this doesn't help either, we'd like to refer you to our colleagues for more information. You can reach them directly on 1300 363 391 (Australia), or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand) from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. They're always happy to help! Hi ,
Does it matter that after I use the steriliser that the bottles are not fully dry ? Can I use the bottles , wet as they are straight to feeding my baby with breastmilk?
Hi Mish, Thank you for reaching out. Since your model of sterilizer does not have a drying function, it is perfectly normal for the bottles to not be fully dry at the end of the cycle. It should also be no problem to fill the bottles with breastmilk while they are still a bit damp. Still, if you prefer to feed your little one with a dry bottle (understandable), we recommend letting them air dry for some time after the sterilization cycle.

I noticed that the water reservoir appears stained and rusty overtime. How can I remove them? If they cannot be cleared, is the sterilizer still safe to use?
Hi there Edrie. Thank you for contacting us here about this situation. Depending on the water type in your area, Limescale can appear on your appliance over time. Although it is not harmful as such, it is unsightly, hard to clean and can impair the operation of appliances or damage their components if allowed to build up. You should descale your appliance at least every 1-2 weeks to ensure that it continues to work effectively. You can follow this video here for more information: external link . Alternatively, you can contact our colleagues directly using the following numbers here: 1300 363 391 from Monday - Friday: 09:00 am - 07:00 pm EST or 0800 658 224 from Monday - Friday: 09:00 am - 05:00 pm. They're happy to help.

Hello, I purchased the Philips Avent steriliser, SCF284, SCF 285 model. According to instructions, it should take 10 minutes to sterilise. However, my power button light switches off after 1 minute! Does this mean sterilisation cycle is complete? How can items be sterilised in 1 minute? If this is not the case, how do I know that the unit IS working and is sterilising if the light goes off??? Thank you.
I have the same question! The light turns off after 1 min
Hi there, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The sterilizing process may take shorter than usual because you poured too little water into the sterilizer. To ensure accurate sterilization you should follow the following instructions:
1. Measure and pour exactly 100 ml/3.5 oz of pure, freshwater directly into the water reservoir. 2. Make sure all parts that need to be sterilized are completely disassembled and place them in the basket with their openings pointing down to prevent them from filling up with water. 3. When you fill the small basket: 4. Put the nipples on the bottom of the basket 5. Place the screw rings loosely on top of the nipples 6. Clip the bottle dome caps into the holders
We'd like to refer you to our product team for more information. You can reach them directly on 1300 363 391 (Australia), or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand) from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. They'll be happy to help. Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team
I've done all of this. I make sure I measure out the water, as well as placing the items into the basket in the manner you've described. I would like an email address if you cannot resolve this, as I cannot afford to phone Australia!
P.S. In fact, there is always water left in the reservoir after "sterilization." So, this should tell you that something is not working properly, as I have followed manufacturer's guidelines since I purchased this machine almost a year ago.

Hi, I've been using this sterilizer for over a week, and when the cycle finishes the bottles are always a little wet. Since today I've noticed that at the end of the cycle the bottles are dry. I don't know if it si normal or if something's happened?I've read the manual and lots of troubleshooting pages but couldn't find an answer. Thanks.
Mine are always a bit wet as is the inside of the steriliser.
Hi Moni,
Thanks for your question. It is indeed quite normal that your bottles are still slightly wet at the end of the cycle. :)
