Philips Clock Radio TAR7705/98

Okay an update after yesterday's bitter rant. YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE MANUAL FROM THE INTERNET AND READ THE TIME, ALARM AND RADIO SECTIONS IN FULL TO UNDERSTAND THE THING. If you don't you won't be able to figure it out. The instructions inside the box aren't anywhere near complete and don't make sense anyway so forget that. Note this is for the A$169 TAR7705/98 model and other reviews in here and on the internet are for older, simpler and cheaper models. It doesn't say it anywhere, but when setting the alarm it will go to the date and you MUST tell it what date you want the time to go off, eg tomorrow morning at 2am you will put in 02:00 and tomorrow's date. If you don't put in the date you want it to go off, it won't. Be warned and do not trust Google when it says you needn't put in the date (that is for other models). The phone charger works but be sure your phone's charger signal lights up (it probably won't work through a case). The unit comes with three countries' power point attachments, with the Japan attachment already joined. Change it to the Australia attachment (you can figure it out once you know this). You can tune in the FM channels, or your own selected channels, but you must read the manual first. I just use the DAB stations, which is all of them, because that also tells the unit the time and date automatically so you don't have to do it manually. You can select favourite radio stations but it's a pain the neck. Be warned the alarm will start off at zero then very low volume and slowly get louder, over some minutes, which is disconcerting and again not in the manual. All up, get it together Philips. We were just in Japan and it is much better than this. It needn't be this difficult or confusing. Put a full manual, addressing the alarm system in full, in the box.
Purchased for $169.
You set the time and it then changes it by itself through the Dab radio sending a different time yes it can be reset but you need to google it to find out how to do this PHILLIPS need to fix this problem properly sound quality is reasonable
Purchased in at Big W for $76.
Works well except for an annoying problem – Numbers are easy to read and clear DAB and FM reception. There are 2x Alarms that can be preset. Wireless and wired USB phone charger is a bonus with backup battery in case of outage. One very annoying issue is the unit will not store the last played DAB or FM station even if you use the Preset function to store and program your favorite station. If you switch it off and return in an hour or later, the radio starts with a random station and you have to scroll through to find your favorite station again and again. (strangely it holds the last station after short time off and on again) For this reason, I would avoid this radio. otherwise its perfect.

Clock Radio With A few Bells & Whistles – A DAB clock radio + FM with Bluetooth & QI Charging + Battery Back up. Works well although a little fiddly to program. DAB works well, which also means it automatically adjusts the time and date, a no brainer really. Check your DAB coverage first. Sound quality is clear but it is not a Bose so don't expect a rich Bass. Especially considering its smallish size.
Bluetooth is okay
Battery back up for power interruptions
Brightness only has 3 setting but even on the lowest setting I personally find it too bright to sleep with at night, will apply some window tint to fix.
Charges my phone sort of okay, you have to get it pretty central if you have a QI compatible robust case on your phone.
