Philips Viva Collection Induction Cooker HD4937/72 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: 36526754Hello I have a new (2 months) Philips HD4902 induction cooker and it will turn itself off after 3-4 minutes of cooking on medium setting (800-1200w) with a new stainless steel frypan. Can you please advise. Phill
I can't get my Phillips 4937 cooktop to stay on the heat I want. After a short time it goes straight up to maximum heat and I have to stand with it to lower the heat in every cooking mode. How can this be rectified

Put it on Hotpot setting. Then can use it like a normal stove in manual mode. Use + and - to control temperature.
Hello, I just bought Philips HD4937 when I try at home it always turns off by itself. And always beeping. And it doesn’t even starts warm or hot.
Hi Aida, Thank you for reaching out. When the cooker turns of by itself and starts beeping it can mean two things. You may have put unsuitable cookware on the cooking plate or you may have removed the cookware from the cooking plate during cooking. Make sure the cookware is made of steel, iron or aluminum with stainless steel cladding base and has a base diameter larger than 12cm. The plate does not warm up when there is nothing on there, for safety reasons. It could also mean that you may have placed the cookware outside of the cooking zone.
If that did not help, feel free to get in touch with our product team at 1300 363 391 from Monday - Friday: 09:00 am - 05:00 pm EST (AU) or 0800 658 224 from Monday - Friday: 09:00 am - 05:00 pm EST (NZ). They will be happy to help!

Hi how does the timer worked. We never used it but now I need it and only Preset works?!
Hi. How di i simmer on this appliance?
I use the roast function and have temperature at 400. It’s about the only setting that doesn’t auto turn off.
Ok ill try that. Wonder how they missed putting a simmer function on it?
And thank you Millypilly
My Philips Induction keep beeping and sometimes work normally. Why it is so?

I pluggedcmy induction cooker in fof the first time and turned it on pressed soup and it just keeps beeping
Hi Corrine, nice to hear that you've gotten yourself a Viva Collection Induction Cooker! We can imagine that you'd like to use the device as soon as possible. What could cause it to beep, is if unsuitable cookware has been put on the cooking plate or if the cookware has been removed from the cooking plate during cooking. Make sure the cookware is made of steel, iron or aluminum with stainless steel cladding base and has a base diameter larger than 12cm. What could also cause the cooker to beep, is if the cookware is placed outside of the cooking zone. If none of the above is the case, then please give our specialists a call at 1300 363 391 (Australia) or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand). Then they can investigate the device's behaviour further. We wish you a very nice rest of the week.

I have two HD 4937 induction cooktops. There is NO manual setting, and ALL presets are on a timer, including saute, roast, fry, and hot pot. There is always a 2 minute countdown! Ridiculous. Pasta takes 10 minutes to cook, and boiled potatoes even longer! What's with that? How can I disable the timer and the temperature setting lower by itself?
I’ve got the later model - they changed the print of “Fry” button to “Manual” button. I think they work exactly the same. If you turn on your machine, and press the Fry button, it should default to 1200 w, and 2 hrs timer. You can adjust the power manually - try not to get it too high, otherwise, it will over heat and shuts itself down. Generally, I start from 1200 to boil the water, then bring it down to 400 once the water is boiling to cook pasta. It works well for me. For stirfry, I start with 1200, then down to between 800 and 400. You kinda of have to treat it like gas top cooker. You need to keep an eye on it, adjust accordingly. Most of the time, I don’t need more than 2 hrs cooking. So the timer doesn’t really bother me. In general, I found when cook with liquid, higher power is fine, but fry with little or none oil, you need to start on high - no more than 1200, then bring it low. It will cook. If you wish to simmer, bring the liquid to boil - don’t forget to keep stirring, then bring it down to 100 and cover the lid.
Please note, since the time I got it, I’ve only used the “Manual” function, which I do hope it is the same as your “Fry” button.
Hopefully, this helps.
Hi Jim. Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you can't find the right setting on your induction cooker. You should be able to disable the timer and adjust the temperatures by following these steps:
• During cooking, you can change the power level by pressing the Increase ( ) or Decrease ( ) button. • In Water ( ), Soup ( ), Steam/Stew ( ), Congee ( ) and Milk ( ) modes, the cooking power automatically changes for better cooking result.
• After you have selected the cooking time, wait for a few seconds before the induction cooker automatically confirms it. • After the timer is set, you can press the Preset/Timer button ( ) again to cancel the timer
Hopefully this helps.

I bought my philips induction viva collection
2months before and i have used it two times and it doesn't heating
All the other things are working bt it doesn't heating
So plzz help me how to resolve the problem
Hi Vikas, thanks for reaching out. We regret to hear that you only got to use your Viva Collection Induction Cooker twice and we'd like to see how we can get the appliance up and running again. Have you perhaps already connected it to a different outlet? If that does not make a difference, could you then give us a call at 1300 363 391 (Australia) or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand)? Then we can look into this further. We're hoping to hear from you.
Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team
I just used my new induction for two days and today i forgot to switch off the induction and after 3 to 4 hrs I turned on it manually. And it turned off by tripping the electricity in whole house. And now it is not getting to turn on. I am not knowing what to do. Any suggestions?
Hi there, Thank you for letting us know about this. We're sorry to hear you're having some issues with your induction cooker. Have you already tried plugging the cooker into another power outlet? It could be that an error occurred during the time you left it on. If this doesn't work, would you mind visiting us on Facebook or Twitter? Our agents will be more than happy to help you further.
Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team.
Am using philips induction stove HD viva..for 2 years...but now i happend to see one problem in it...once it switched on...the temperature i set is automatically coming...down to the lowest possible...which ever be the temperature program either....stir fry...or pressure coocker or manual...all doing the same thing...what can i do?
Hello Adarsh, This seems odd indeed, but please take note that the Induction Cooker has both manual and auto cooking features. The manual settings are only available with Sauté, Roast and Fry. It is normal for the other settings to change automatically after a set time or the cooking feature. Of course, you can reach out to our customer care about this too. You can reach out customer service on 1300 363 391, from Mondays to Saturdays (7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST).
Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team
Why does the induction cooker often switch to "ECO" after about 2 minutes on every setting except "boil".
Doesn't matter whether using cast iron, or magnetic attracting stainless steel or enamelled cast iron (le Crueset) it just switches to eco.
Most frustrating.
Hi Nell, Thanks a lot for your question. That indeed is rather odd, but we're under the assumption that you should be able to fix this by unplugging your Cooker and then plugging it back in. Have you tried this already to no avail, or doesn't this do the trick, please feel free to reach out to our product specialists on 1300 363 391 if you're based in Australia or 0800 658 224 if you're based in New Zealand. Our team would then be more than willing to assist you further. We hope to hear from you.

hey can you please help me with this induction? i have brought it but i don’t know how to make chapati in it? what kind of pan will be suitable for it? thank you
I don’t know what chapati is.
But with this induction, the pans and pots that work on will be.
Put a fridge magnet on bottom of pan or pot or wok. If the fridge magnet sticks to bottom then it is suitable with this induction.
Good question, Akki! There are a couple of parameters that should be taken into consideration when choosing your pans for an induction cooker. - Material Cookware with a bottom made of iron or magnetic stainless steel
- Shape Cookware with a flat bottom
... and for our HD4937/72 (and similar size induction cookers) specific.
- Size Cookware with a bottom diameter of 12-23cm, depending on the cooking mode
Hope this answers your question! Otherwise please feel free to reach out to us directly on 1300 363 391 or through external link .
Have a great weekend. :)
Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team
Why does it turn off after two minutes even when I've set the timer to 1 or 2 hrs. I've tried using different settings and it still turns off at 2 minutes! It's made coming with it very frustrating!
Hi Bibi,
That sure is strange. Thanks for describing the issue and asking for help. We'd recommend to get in touch with our product specialists. You can reach them at 1300 363 391.

I bought an induction cooker last week and chose to buy Philips, thinking that it is reliable given the brand name. It's also more expensive compared to other induction cookers so i assumed that it works better. We are not yet using it but upon reading the reviews, I'm having second thoughts. For one, yah, the instructions are not clear enough. For someone like me who never cooked using an induction stove, the manual gives too little information. The issue on automatic temperature change, pasta sauce boiling too vigorously, etc. worries me. I am wondering if i can return it or at least could you provide a clearer and more detailed manual? Thanks!
Hi Jayson, Thank you for your question and your feedback, as well as trusting our brand. It's quite unfortunate to hear you're having second thoughts already on your newly bought Induction Cooker, as we'd be happy if you could enjoy it. At the same time, we can imagine why the instructions can be experienced as not clear enough. We'll notify our relevant department to look into this. For now, we'd be happy to provide you with further assistance. If you're based in Australia, you could call us on 1300 363 391 for us to see how we can help. If you reside in New Zealand, you can contact us on 0800 658 224.

I am thinking of buying one of these - after looking at the reviews, I have a fair idea of how to get around its limitations. My flatmate is extremely pedantic about cleaning the gas stove after every single use and complained about a non-existent drop of oil I'd left behind on it, so I need another alternative. I have a multi cooker as well.
What I'm wanting to know is:
-what size pots and pans can be used on it? Can I use it for something as small as a coffee percolator? I also have a small cast iron pan I like to fry eggs in. I'm hoping to have a decent range of pots+pan sizes I can use on it.
- does only the inner ring heat up? I think I read that somewhere....
thanks!
Allison
Hi Allison. I cannot answer your question accurately as after this appliance blistered the bottom of my pot I have not used it as I don't want to risk damaging another pot. The Viva that I have also seems to have a hot spot in it that is right where the pot was blistered. If I was you I would go to K Mart and have a look at their Induction cooktop. You could have two of their ones for the price of one Philips one and their ones have only four touch controls, On/off, timer, minus, plus and not all of the complication that comes with the Philips appliance. And if you want a Halogen Oven then the K Mart one is excellent long lasting and very good value. Good luck with your purchase. JohnR
Hi Allison, thanks for asking. We advise you to call us on 1300 363 391 (if you are in Australia) for further assistance.

Don't buy the Philips - After 2 blew up i'm happy using another brand
Thanks all,
Helen - what brand did you buy?
I'm now considering the Tefal.
@Peacebrother do the Kmart ones maintain a consistent heat level or cycle on and off? I've read that's an issue for most portable induction cooktops.
I've reformatted the English portion of the user manual version 4.0 so that it is now in five A4 pages. This makes it easily readable compared to the official version. I posted a link to it in my Dropbox, but the administrators of this forum haven't approved it yet.
How can I get a copy to you so that all users can see it?
Cheers,
Ken Russell
It seems Philips is not interested in helping users - they wouldn't publish the reformatted manual I posted and they didn't advise me that two of my reviews on this had been rejected. Poor show Philips, you should take a look at Sunbeam's manuals to see how it should be done.
Hi Ken,
Thank you for your query and apologies for the delayed reply. Would you mind calling us at 1300 363 391? We'll be happy to help you out.

I have a hearing problem and would prefer contact by email.
