There are varying degrees that dropouts could occur; sometimes the audio drops in and out but the worst is when it disconnects completely and you could be using Maps to get to a location. And the only way for you to reconnect is to stop the car completely. Pioneer do have technical support and I arranged a talk with their engineer. He said that they are aware of the problem and to keep an eye on the firmware. Well, its almost a year since their last release... I hope they don't forget about this unit. The main reason for me getting the unit was for wireless apple carplay; to safely make calls, audio read texts and navigation but when it disconnects it is distracting to the driver.
