Rheem Stellar/RheemPlus 5 Star Questions & Answers
VerifiedWith the dam gas laws possibly changing here in Victoria I was thinking of getting a new hot water system as a spare , as our current one is 25 years old (built 5/11/1999 ) never been serviced and is still going great so want an exact replacement just in case it decides it’s time is up . After reading about them here (the 850330N ) are the new ones built the same as only ones as they only seem to last 10/15 years and have pilot light issues?
Hi John, my updated replacement Rheem 5 plus Stellar is identitical to my 20 yo one, so I'm hopeful that it will last just as long, it's certainly performing well, time will tell
I bought a new model 850330 and had it installed less than 10 months ago. Since then, the flame has gone out out over 5 times every time we have a windy day or night. This reliability is unacceptable. Is there a solution? What can I do? The equipment works but just goes out on windy days!!
I have this model installed less than a year ago and I have had to re-light the flame every time we have a windy day or night. This is really unacceptable! Is there a fix for this?
Is it normal for steam to exit the front grilles on the unit whilst the shower is on

Hi. I have a Rheem Stellar 850330NO with date of 2018 on it. When I try to use the hot water, I get a small amount out, dwindling down to a drip and then nothing. I think I had the same problem a few years back. I think I may have just opened the pressure release valve for a while and let it drain. I am not sure and I don't want to do anything that may damage it. Can you please advise? Thanks.

I had a stellar gas domestic outdoor water heater 850 series 330 360 model installed yesterday, the plumber told me that it had a 10 year warranty - as the previous unit had failed and needed to be urgently replaced I did not shop around - I now have two concerns 1. is he correct that the warranty period is 10 years and if so do I receive a warranty document from Rheem 2. the cost to replace the unit was over $4600. This seems excessive based on what I have read today. As a single retiree this is a huge cost for me which I have had to meet.
That is an excessive price for a Stellar model. Ours was approx $2k installed. Sadly, only the tank is 10 year warranty. The burner is only 12 months. Our 2.5 year old Stellar replaced a failed 7 year old model, and has a failed burner unit. Rheem were no help with any kind of reimbursement even after two plumbers had said this was exceptional and shouldn't have happened. Ours is now limping along but if the gas goes out, we need a new unit (council are doing works this month so it's happening). Sadly, the most recommended models for a family house is the Stellar.
Yesterday I had installed a Rheem stellar gas domestic outdoor water heater 850 series 330 360 model purchased from Reece. As it was urgent to replace the non functioning system I did not have time to shop around, but based on the reviews below I am now worried that what I paid is excessive and that some information I received from the plumber may not be correct. 1. the cost to supply and install was in excess of $4600 which included a tampering valve (?) 2. I was told that the unit had a full 10 year warranty being a single family home, is this correct, if not, what can I do? As I have had to pay the account upon installation I have no redress if I wish to query the amount, but I am a single female retiree and find that sometimes tradespeople take advantage of my vulnerable situation.
i have a rheem hot water gas model 850330n0 that seemed to be working ok until my supplier replaced the meter and wasn't able to light the pilot light. He said that there was a leakage with the heater and so disconnected my whole gas system (including stove etc.). I phoned rheem who told me a technician would call me back.. and that they MAY call me today.. the first call was at around 1100. What sort of service is this? And what is wrong with that particular model? also, since it was installed in jan 2018 i'm told that there is no warranty.. even though I i was told by the supplier that it was a design fault.. so now I'm waiting.. waiting.. waiting..

How do I flush my hot water unit?
Hi, We recently had our Rheem Stellar 330 gas storage hot water system anodes changed. One week on, we are still getting large bursts of air from each hot water tap on commencement of the hot water coming through. Any suggestions?
Can't help you Craig. But suggest you get back to them asap before they say you left it too long.
I had problems with my rheem 360 gas unit I had water leaks from hot water outlets is this normal steam travel ander the plastic cawer unit only 2 years old insulation on top off the thank get dump
It is normal for condensation to form under the cover and drip to the ground. It does depend on the ambient temperature. These are exhaust gas products being water and CO2. The water condenses onto the outside of the water tank and releases energy from the steam-to-water phase change called latent heat which releases quite bit of energy to the stored water. It makes the unit much more efficient. I am in no way associated with Rheem. I am a 3 times owner. I will however be converting to an electric instantaneous hat water system when this one expires.
So it's ok to internal insulation get wet
why does it steem from the side
It uses latent heat from the exhaust to heat the water which improves efficiency greatly. Latent heat is released when a phase change from gas to liquid occurs.
How do I remove the top of my stellar 850 water heater ?
Assuming this is to change the anode. Water and gas goes off and allow to cool first. 1. Screw at the back in the center 2.One catch on each side (see the slots) 3. one Catch on the front (another slot) Pop the lid out. 4. Remove insulation 5. Push aside metallic strip 6. Remove metal dome lid 7. Youll need 2 x anodes and socket extension.
Thank you very much for your advice.
