Had our Russell Hobbs Brooklyn Glass kettle about four years but it has always been a disappointment. From quite early on it became noisy and took a long time to boil. All our visitors commented on it. The plastic lid started to fail us a few months ago and today it won’t open at all. Tomorrow we have to buy a new kettle and I guess we’ll be looking at a different brand. Show details

Easily the best kettle I've had in last 10 years at least – Whisper quiet. Handed back a 2 month old Westinghouse kettle that was never quiet from straight out of the box brand new, but had gotten to jet engine levels of noise. Got $94 refund and bought this instead for $65. So much quieter there simply is no comparison. Other pluses: Looks far better in matt black with electric blue LED lighting. Switches… Read more

itself off prompty rather than continuing to boil until water starts splashing out the spout. Has 2 year warranty which is twice the length of every other Sunbeam/Breville/Westinghouse alternative.

Ignore all the other reviews with stupid complaints which are due entirely to user misuse. The cord is EXACTLY the same length as every other kettle on the market. But just like every other kettle, if you want the full length exposed, you have to unwind it from the spindles under the base - again, just like every other kettle on the market. So the review that complains about the cord length and shows a photo is just pure ignorance.

Complaining about parts that break off after a year is also a good thing. I hope mine breaks after a year too, though I doubt it will judged from how if feels in the hand. I hope it breaks because with a 2 year warranty, I will simply get another one. That's what warranties are for. The reviewer who complained about this is obviously too lazy to go through the warranty claim process.

Wish the cord was longer – Recently purchased the Brooklyn Glass Kettle only to find that the electrical cord is much shorter than I expected. When compared it to my last Kettle (Sunbeam) that cord was 88cm to the plug, the Brooklyn is only 43cm to the plug. You don't think it is much until you plug it into the wall and then you realise just how short it is. The kettle… Read more

overall is quite good, boils relatively fast and is fairly quite, just the cord length which has let it down. Would have been a 5 star kettle but with this fault only 3 stars can be given. I've attached a photo of the old Sunbeam kettle and the Brooklyn Kettle leads so that people can get an idea of the situation.

Black soot and plastic broke off after minimal use – As another reviewer stated, this kettle is poor quality, since we could only use it for approximately two years. The one star is for the short time it worked well. We have found all the products under this brand that we have purchased, including a chopper and toaster/grill become unusable shortly after purchase. Never again because they are simply… Read more

not fit for purpose as they leach plastic and chemicals into your food and drink. We always treat our home and personal things with respect and this kettle was no different. It was always kept clean and handled with care.

At first, we were happy with the kettle since it looked so nice, the blue lights were lovely to look at when it boiled, making it easy to see when it was on, and it held a good volume of water. It ticked the boxes too - supposedly reputable brand, BPA free and predominantly glass.

But the last couple of weeks I had noticed that my tea and coffee just didn't taste right. I tried different milks, to no avail. I had a hunch it was the kettle because it seemed to be the water. Turns out I was right, but I was yet to discover why.

One night, I made a cup of tea and when I went back to re-boil the kettle, I noticed a piece of something black inside the kettle. So, I emptied it out and took out what was a small piece of plastic into my hand. At first I struggled to see where it came from. But I persisted and wiped around the lid and discovered, to my horror, that black soot-like residue came off the inner lid and another small piece of plastic also detached. We have obviously been drinking some of this leaching black soot. I could have swallowed the plastic had the kettle not been glass.

It is so disappointing that brands that were either at the higher end, and so reputable, either sell out to a huge corporation, to be mass sold, which lowers quality dramatically, or the brand manufacturer just drops manufacturing quality to save on costs. RH used to be the brand name for good quality kettles - we mostly purchased them exclusively, though they have never been the cheapest. Where is our consumer protection with this garbage that is used to boil water for human consumption? This kettle is dangerous to human health.

Poorly made - plastic lid hinge broke after a year – I bought this kettle just over a year ago after reading lots of positive reviews. I liked how it looked and the clear glass was great for gauging the water level and limescale buildup, but the plastic lid and build are very poor quality. The lid hinge has broken already, which means we now have to manually open and close it using a fingernail… Read more

instead of pressing the button. We’re a pretty sedate 2-person household - it’s just my husband and I using this kettle, and it’s only used to make a cuppa twice a day. Three times if we’re being particularly wild! It’s not being used to practise WWE wresting smackdowns. We’re very disappointed with it as we expected it to last a lot longer, being a Russell Hobbs kettle.

nice kettle but plastic lid – this is a very nice kettle and is quiet too. only problem is that the lid is made of plastic so there is a plastic smell in the water, especially if you let it cool and resuse the water.. you have to tip it out and refill the water every time you use it. would've been perfect with a stainless lid about a year on and the kettle has failed. the heating element just stopped working without any notice Show details

Disappointing – I decided to purchase this appliance after some research, even though there were some unfavourable reports about how noisy the kettle got. The look of the glass and copper kettle with the blue LED light is a nice addition to the kitchen. The first week it was quieter than my old kettle, which is the main reason why I bought it (The Good Guys… Read more

$99).

However another week later the kettle started making as much noise as my old one. Very disappointed considering the price. I definitely wont go against my better judgement again.
