I purchased an ocs1830bl chainsaw about 18 months ago, great unit, and been a very handy and easy to use tool, but my partner just cleaned the bar and tensioner and fitted a new chain and noticed the tensioner wheel free spins and does not adjust the bar, I don't have my purchase receipt and I'm just wondering how old this model is because if it's less than 6 years since it's initial release them I shouldn't have any trouble getting it replaced, hopefully

This seems to be a common problem going by feedback I've read. All you can do is take it back and see what they say. I took my first one back w the same issues and it was replaced without issue.

Not retaining your receipt might pose a problem, but if you've registered it with Ryobi you'll be okay to have it replaced - if the fault is in the machine

Has anyone had the problem where the chain tensioner does not tension the chain enough? I had a problem with the bar and changed it for new and bought two new chains but now the tensioner is too slack for both chains. I did have a bit of an altercation with a solid object and wrote the original bar off but have measured both old and new chains and they are both the same and the tensioner will not give me enough tension anymore.

I found after a few months the first chain could not be tensioned enough. It was under warranty and they replaced it. I've not had the issue w the replacement.

Hi Kathleen, mine is out of warranty so l need a solution really. I am going to shorten the chain as an interim measure.

So, the reason why my chain was so loose is because l bought another “suitable” bar from Amazon which was a different shape but looked ok. When l put the old chain on it was also far too long, so thought about returning the new bar. I then found the ryobi bar is not available anymore so will stick with the new one and just modify (shorten) the new chain. Job done!

I have seen a post that there is another "bolt" to remove and set the bar tension (under the plastic chain tension cover) - I will have a look and try this but I will most like take it back to Bunnings. Maybe I purchase a better chain and see how that goes lol :) I will update on my experience soon hopefully :)

I purchased one Friday last week and used it for the first time on the weekend - worked great......until there was no more chain slack adjustment. Is the chain supposed to "stretch" so much? The chain is now loose on the bar and there is no more adjustment to be made - it is wound out full. Any help would be great but I will be taking it back to Bunnings this afternoon lol

I, also found this an issue. I removed the shaft and refitted the chain which took up some of the slack but it again became so loose it came off the shift.

Hi how do you learn to use this tool please? I need a saw but am wary of chain saws of any type.

Hi the instructions that come with the saw are excellent, they describe in detail the components of the saw and how to use it It is easy to use . Read the instructions follow the diagrams .

I agree, the instructions are quite clear. If you are looking for complicated then this isn't the saw for you. Look after your machine and it will continue to operate efficiently. After you use it a few times you get to know the feel and sound of your saw when cutting. I also don't lend my saw.
