Very reliable, powerful electric chainsaw – Plenty of power, chain goes a long time between sharpening extremely satisfied with it. Had some old very dry hard oak and wattle logs 300 to 450 in diameter, it did an excellent job cutting through those.

good few cuts. It only takes about 3 seconds to re tension so it wasn't an issue. Quiet as. Also between cuts you don't have any noise at all. Obviously you would need a petrol saw for work in the bush but at home this will be my go to saw. Wish I'd bought one years ago.

Another crap product from Bunnings – Worked well for first 30 cuts . Dumped All bar oil after first use .only used in small stuff Constantly having to adjust chain tensioner mayb 1-2 cuts . And grinding noise on deceleration is ominous. Another crap product from Bunnings Show details

Chain tensioning mechanism not fit for purpose – Reviewing the RCS2340B model, purchased June 2019. This chainsaw has the potential to be a very good tool except for a serious design fault. The chain tensioner mechanism is badly designed, doesn't work as it is meant to, and wears out quickly. I have replaced the entire tensioning mechanism once, in February 2021 and it is already wearing out and does not hold the chain tension. I note other reviewers report the same problem. Show details

The blade tension keeps coming loose and is dangerous. I had to hold the knob to stop it undoing – I only had one small stump to cut and went through 2 blades. Because the tensioner kept slipping, it took forever. The chain bar is awkward when replacing the chain. Nothing keeps it in place easily. Show details

petrol pole saw but for everyday processing of firewood needs this saw is the go. (use the aircon on heat cycle for about 10 minutes of a morning but otherwise all heat is supplied by wood heater). It appears lighter than the RCS2040 I binned a couple of weeks ago when it looked like it threw a bearing after 15 yrs. Not only is it lighter, it's quieter and faster. Most of the foibles of the 1st generation have been addressed. Not so many lockout switches now. Just one thumb switch and pull the trigger. Oil reservoir does not surge when you are near the top. No vibration. The motor has extra finning for improved air flow. The previous one used to get oil impregnated saw dust in the vents on the underneath side that I ended up cutting out with a grinder. Made a good leaf blower after that! The easy lock bar system is an improvement on the old one. I ended up replacing the thumb nut on the previous model with a stainless nut and fitted an extra bar support so that the bar would not vibrate loose and require constant retensioning. You now just turn one ratchet wheel that auto tensions and locks the bar and so far it seems to work. The chain. Leaves my modified Stihl chains with ground down chisel guides for dead. Can't beleive how fast it is. Think I'll be buying my chains from Ryobi in the future instead of the mower shop. Only mod I've made is to add a short extension lead tied in a knot where it joins the saw. They always vibrate loose at this point if you don't . Otherwise I'd give it a 10 if I could.

residential area. I previously owned a McCulloch electric chainsaw and had it for a number of years without any trouble until recently when it stopped working the other day. The problems with the Ryobi RCS2340 is, when the chain heats up (Which is normal when sawing from a cold start.) and you turn the tensioner to re-tighten the chain, you continue cutting your timber. In a few seconds after tensioning, the chain loosens its tension and falls off the bar. Rechecking and re-attaching the chain to the bar, making sure everything is connected correctly, I restarted sawing my timber, in a few seconds again the chain loses tension. Turning the tensioner, the chain won’t tension because bar oil and saw dust mix together around the tension system, not allowing the tension to hold tension. I gave up after an hour trying to cut wood and returned it back to Bunnings and got a refund. (Many thanks Bunnings) Never again!

great saw - Keep sprocket clean!!!!! – So far an excellent saw. *Always* clean the sprocket, bar and power head when replacing the bar and tensioning and you'll have NO problems. Docked 3 tons of Ironbark - great. Show details

Great unit, blade seemed to blunt a little quick for mine – Mechanically it is a great unit, maybe not suited to a camphor laurel stump. But very powerful unit. Easy to clean. I prefer this to the cordless which I used before as it seems more powerful. Show details

Faulty design, the chain falls off – The chain tensioner doesnt work, the adjusting teeth arent deep enough and when in use it eventually loses its grip on the bar completely letting the chain fall off . Though Bunnings gave me a full refund and I was able to buy a different brand Show details

WOW, WHAT A SURPRISE – I purchased this Ryobi electric chainsaw from Bunnings in Glenorchy, Hobart for $139 with 4 year warranty.. Got it home, checked it over, adjusted the chain (dead simple,no tools) filled the bar oil tank then plugged it in to a heavy duty 25m extension lead.

I went straight to a 400mm dia gumtree that was felled over a year ago so it is pretty dry.

What a surprise, it was cutting everything the petrol saw would cut but quicker, much quieter and almost no vibration.

When I repositioned a log or myself I simply put the saw down, silence. No saw sitting idling or switching it off then having to restart it.

I still have a great need of my petrol saw and I still think it is fantastic however this new electric saw is now my goto.

You could use it at 6am on a Sunday morning in suburbia and the neighbors would be none the wiser.

It is so much kinder to my dodgy shoulders.

Terrific chainsaw with enough power for big jobs – For $155 from Bunnings at Bankstown airport, the Ryobi RCS2340 is fantastic value and comes with a 4 year exchange warranty. got warm! Whats more, the teeth are still sharp. The saw is virtually vibration free. The dogs make for good leverage and ease of use. Chain tensioning is simple and easy. A terrific safety feature is INSTANT stopping when you release the trigger. The saw comes with crosscut sharpened teeth which make ripping a bit cumbersome as shavings clog the saw. Because the saw stops instantly, clearing shavings is easy and quick. I have a spare chain which I will sharpen as a ripping chain. You need to be/get good at sharpening because a new chain is $40.

The product description is accurate and the manual very helpful for beginners.

I summary, this saw has plenty of grunt, acceptable noise level, (I use the saw at the Strathfield Mens Shed (Sydney. NSW), good safety features and performs beyond what I expected. It does what a petrol chainsaw does for a tenth of the price.
