SG30 Chlorinator & Cell ... Stay away – Worst chlorinator and cell we have ever owned!!! Less than four years old and both the cell and the chlorinator need replacing. The pool shop contacted poolcontrols.com in Wangara where they are made to see if they would offer anything pro rated considering the average for the chlorinator insself is normally long. Sorry to say it's Australian made.
very poor product – Worked fine for 2 months then went haywire. replaced 4 probes and circuit board under warranty but company refused to replace unit. VERY poor service and Very poor communication. Have since replaced unit with different system and now my pool is back to normal. Will never deal with this company again. Buyer beware. Show details
No after sales service – Our Pool came with an SG30 as part of the auto dosing system. Right before warranty expiration the salt cell burnt out. Technician came and replaced the cell and the SaltiGem box itself. But what does he replace it with ? A reconditioned unit OLDER than the one we had. We suspect that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the unit itself,… Read more
just the cell. So takes a perfectly good unit and replaces it with a much older unit. The replacement dies within months of being installed. Now we are being told 'sorry, your unit is out of warranty as it is 4.5 years old'. Our pool isn't even that old, so how can the unit be that old !!?? And it's 4.5 yrs old because that is what your dodgy company installed. Since the 'reconditioned' unit was installed, our chlorine levels were off the charts, couldn't swim in the pool most of summer with readings that would take your skin off. Couldn't adjust it as the 'reconditioned' unit couldn't be turned down. Then it stopped working altogether. Now we are getting the run around having to 'prove' when the original unit was installed to show to the company that a) unit was replaced with another unit b) that the unit it was replaced with is actually older than our pool. Do they not keep records ? Dodgy as and garbage unit. Having to adjust ORP all the time instead of the unit to get the chlorine levels right. If the company doesn't do the right thing and give a replacement we will go to Fair Trading. Happy to expose their dodgy practices.
SX20 load of rubbish – Not surprising this unit is discontinued. In six years we’ve been through 3 salt cells and one control box. Pool controls are appealing to deal with after a lot of backwards and forwards and a threat to contact consumer protection they finally replaced the box. But at $500 a pop for the cells I wish I had changed chlorinator last time. Show details
Worked for a while, display broken, chlorine output unreliable – Looked good for a start, but after 2 years the display behaved funny and was not able to read it any more. Chlorine output fluctuating, so always algae and had to floc the pool twice a year. pH never right and sudden drops in the acid level in the container pointed to random injection of acid in the system. Will now buy a reputable brand. Show details
Problems from the start, now dead – My pool came with a SG20 Saltigem originally, however there appeared to not be enough chlorine being produced and it was then replaced with a SG30. Ill give it to PoolControls as they replaced the SG20 with the SG30 model after a lot of back and forth at their good will. Even with the SG30 I had to run it for 8 hours per day at 100% and it… Read more
only just kept up.
My friends were constantly telling me that they would have to turn their other branded chlorinators down as there was too much chlorine which in my case was the opposite.
Now it has finally died after 2 years and considering it is now just out of warranty I am not even interested in getting this unit fixed and will buy another brand that hopefully smashes chlorine production out the pack....
Good bye Saltigem :-)
Complicated and unreliable – The auto doseing system never worked and the LED display failed after 2 seasons of use rendering the chlorinator useless. I have replaced it with a Crystal Clear chlorinator (great value & very reliable) Not at all recommended. Also Pool Controls in Balcatta were most unhelpful and disinterested as so many businesses are these days, Customer service is a thing of the past :( Show details
Bad Chlorinator – I had the Saltigem SG series installed with new pool and I've had nothing but problems with it keeping up the chlorine levels, the cell failed after after 6 months of use and now it appears to have fail again after having it replaced only 12 months earlier. The display screen is very hard to read also sometimes, not impressed at all I wouldn't recommend the saltigem to anyone. Show details
This cleaner is perfect, set it and leave it – I have had two automatic pool chlorinators in the past 15 years before getting this Saltigem unit. The first one used liquid chlorine, which was fine until carrying the containers from the shop, to front then back of house became too much for my aging body :) I then replaced that original unit with a Zodiac salt water chlorinator, which worked… Read more
great for a few years, but then the timer broke. I got around this by using a mechanical timer bought from Bunnings for about $10. This solution worked fine, as long as the power didn't go out; in which case you need to rest the timer time. Eventually the unit did not do a good job of keeping the pool water crystal clear, but it was OK if I kept on top of it by brushing the pool sides and steps more often. No good if returning home from long weekend holiday.
The unit was replaced about two months ago with the Saltigem. I have not had to touch the unit since that day. Even when there is a power cut the unit keeps it's timing. The pool has remained clear since first installing.
(We have a concrete pool.) You can set it and leave it. If you can pay the price get the optional acid despencer .
