Samsung 980 PRO PCle 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD

Nice to have the extra space and good performance but there were a few minor things that irked me – My Dell XPS8950 came with a 512GB Samsung (PM9A1) but it was not big enough for all my apps so I purchased a Samsung 980Pro 2TB to up my game. Apparently the PM9A1 is considered the OEM version of the 980Pro which would explain why they are very evenly matched on some of the benchmarks and why the PM9A1 beats the 980 pro in some benchmarks I ran! (Disappointing not to see a speed increase but it is nice to know Dell put a decent HDD in my computer which I can use for other things!)

Overall I am happy with the speed, size and cost of my drive. I feel I got the best drive I could for the price which is why I rated it Good. I can recommend this drive though I believe there are newer models out now which I have not tested which are probably better.

Things that irked me: ------------------------ - Claiming a rated performance of 7000MB/s Read speed is a bit misleading as the device doesn't even come close in real life performance. - While sequential read speeds were better, random 4k access speeds were more than 20% slower in real world tests than the Samsung PM9A1 even in Samsung's own benchmark software in Samsung Magician (Note: The PM98A1 is smaller at 512GB, the 980pro is currently the C: drive and the PM9A1 is configured with Dell's own firmware all of which may affect speed) - No retaining screw included! My computer didn't come with one and it is smaller than a normal pc screw. Seriously what would it cost to include one? - The heatsink. So the preinstalled SSD does not have a heatsink, instead opting for a heatpad that makes contact with the motherboard. (I have looked, other motherboards have these its not just dell). The non-heatsinked device runs 10 degrees cooler? - Again what would it cost to include a small thermal pad so that one could make use of the thermal contact on the motherboard if available? - Ever so slightly slower than the Samsung PM9A1. Okay, so it doesn't have the Dell Bios installed and it is plugged into a Dell. Admittedly the performance difference is small but it would have been nicer if it was better rather than worse than the OEM preinstalled stuff!
