Spider arm corroded and broken – This machine broke down due to a well known issue with the spider arm being made of metal that can corrode and snap. It only lasted this long as it was used sparingly. I am now looking for a new washer and I'm certainly not going to consider another Samsung. It seems to me, and many others to be simply planned obsolescence as this issue has been… Read more

known for about a decade, yet newer Samsung models still exhibit the same problem. Also, the drying function takes forever as is apparently the case with many other combined washer dryers.

Bought 2nd hand in 2015, lasted 2.5 years till bearings went – This was my first FL machine after many TL's and my clothes have never been cleaner. The length of a normal wash was 2hrs, didn't even bother to use the dryer function as after the first time it took way too long and wasn't really drying the clothes properly. The shorter cycles were as low as 29mins but only used these for sheets, blankets and… Read more

light soiled clothes.

Considering it was manufactured in 2010, 7 years life with one front rubber seal replacement didn't seem too bad.

Pros - Clean clothes, less tangles, quiet (when balanced correctly), minimal water/electricity use

Cons - Long wash time, should've lasted 10 years.

Rec - Make sure you level the machine out correctly with a proper builders bubble level this will reduce noise, movement and probably increase reliability.

Having a bit of a conundrum as to wether or not to fix as Samsungs supposedly have a spider arm problem so dont want to open her up and find this issue.

Overall I would buy again as I had no computer issues and it worked hard every weekend.

Fixing (I hope) the dreaded 5E error message in a Samsung Washer/Drier :) – I have the 7 kilo Samsung Washer/Drier, it started getting the dreaded 5E 'error message' and I looked everywhere for the answer as to how correct the problem. My biggest problem was the closest 'repair' company was 52 Km away and they wanted $120, plus traveling, just to 'look' at the machine :( I looked at the way the machine worked and… Read more ·  3

ascertained it's an electrical water clearing sensor that is at fault, because it is 'faulty', the big question is what makes a sensor become faulty??

My fix was to put 4 x 1 litre bottles (4 liters) of cleaning vinegar inside the washing machine bowel :)

I poured 1 Lt direct into the pull out drawer, where the washing powder/softener is placed, after all water does pass down through this compartment, the other 3 x Lt of Vinegar was placed direct into the washing bowel.

I left it there for 30 mins then started the machine and run it on HALF full with maximum rinse cycle.

My reasoning was less water would dilute the vinegar less than using normal settings.

I then washed and dried a load of clothes for the first time since I started getting the 5E error message :) :)

All has been good so far so I suggest it is a cheap fix, the water sensor may have been covered in 'scale' as you get in your kettle etc, stopping the water sensor from working.

It lasted 5 years but it was broken twice! – After 2 years it was leaking, water coming out of the door and was repaired by a Samsung tech. Recently, we could hear a loud noise especially when it spins. Called a few technicians and was advised to buy a new one. Probably broken spider flange. Not worth to repair anymore. The dryer feature is a waste of time, money and energy. Never again samsung!!!

Makes laundary easier – Clothes will never be completely dry after a cycle unless you're washing one sock. But another hour on the dry cycles gets it wardrobe/closet ready. I usually like conventional dryers for the anti lint feature. But this machine manages that well so am very happy - don't have to be OCD when sorting colours and fabrics.

Awful! Expect Multiple breakdowns – I was enamored by the LED display, seemingly okay price, and the 'drying' capabilities of this combo machine, until it progressively broke down and became absolutely useless!!! I bought this washer/dryer combo in Melbourne in mid-2010. I was never impressed by the terrible drying cycle of this machine (clothes ALWAYS came out damp - even tiny… Read more

loads), and of course, the fact that it takes over FOUR hours to do a wash + dry cycle...

Well, imagine how impressed I was when I received an error code: "HE-02" only 3 years after owning it (which is a heating error during drying). I called Samsung and had their technician 'look at it' at the call-out cost of over $100 ($150 from memory), with no guarantee of them being able to fix it on site. They came out, took two screws off the top at the back to pop open the lid, did some resistance testing on sensors, and determined that it was a $3 heat sensor that of course they didn't have with them. The technician was helpful enough to give me the part number, which I then ordered (both the 'A and B' part numbers), picked up from their Samsung store, and then replaced on my own time for only a few bucks, instead of paying $150+ to Samsung to come out again.

Well, I replaced the sensor, and it worked great - for about a week... Then it broke again - same error.

Given that the dryer was so awful, and the hassle of getting parts and repairing, I thought "I'll just buy a separate dryer", so I did. This cut my total cycle time from 4 HOURS for wash and dry down to 1.5 HOURS for wash + 1 hours drying by a conventional dryer. The added bonus was that my clothes were ACTUALLY dry, because I had a new (non-Samsung) dryer that actually worked. You might even say that I was 'happy' with my half-working piece of rubbish Samsung WD 8704EJA washing machine - until yesterday...

The washing machine got pretty noisy during its wash cycle when it was spinning, and started knocking VERY loudly. I mean, this machine was pretty bad all along - it had developed a bit of a knock after a year, so I thought nothing of it. It got really loud during one cycle, and then.... New error code: 3E!!! Looked online, and it's some sort of motor error.

I'm not going to call Samsung again and throw good money after bad. I've absolutely had it with this piece of rubbish.

By the way, we are an adult couple, and we do about 3 loads of laundry a week on average, so for this machine to last only 5 years is absolutely disgraceful.

Stuff it - I'm buying a new machine today, and I can assure you it won't be Samsung....

Was great till problems started – Don't buy if you want it to last longer than 5 years! I had the pump replaced after 2 yrs and 10 months after machine wouldn't drain and I had to manually do it. And now 2 years and 11 months later the 5E error code is back and exactly the same problem the pump has gone again technician told me last time it would cost around $250 - $300 to get it… Read more

fixed if it happens again and he said that the pump is basically a fishpond pump and doesn't last long. Not impressed at all not even 5 years old and being told in 2010 when I bought it it was top of the line and one of the best on the market what a lie!! My last washing machine is over 10 years old and never had a single problem and is still going and works the same as it did when first purchased, a friend has that now as I thought the w/d combo would save space and time ha! Yeah right! Not impressed at all and just got off the phone to samsung and because it's not under warranty I have to pay for it. They covered the cost last time, but this time they said its nearly 5 years old and won't cover it. I will certainly be making a complaint as most of their other models have the exact same issue with pump constantly going. Not only that it's not quiet at all sounds like a freakn plane taking off. Worst purchase ever, I don't pay top dollar for a washing machine to have it break down after 2 yrs 10 months then again 2 years 11 months later, if I keep machine the repair costs over next 5 years will cost me the same as getting a new machine different brand that isn't such poor quality and I won't have to fix it every 2 - 3 years. Samsung you need to put a heavy duty pump in your machines and make sure the parts are of top quality and will last the distance expected or sell them for $250 and by the time the machine is 10 years old it will add up to the same as what their sold for with all the repair costs. With 4 kids I can't afford for my washing machine to break down, 9 - 10 loads of washing a week, don't use dryer all that often as it takes too long only use it when I set a wash / dry cycle over night so school uniforms are ready when kids get up for school. Don't buy if you want quality.

Its got Class!! – its the best washing machine/dryer ever in one deal for my Capetown Home. It's quiet and can handle heavy duties and does such a great job for many "delicates" and the normal wash. Even my floor mats and heavy duvets and towels.. It does a fantastic job of cleaning my laundry so well. Its like a gentleman of a machine and a lady in its caring for all my laundry needs. whatta buy!! I love it!!!

Good washer, bad dryer – Had this machine for 4 years now and no problems until about a week ago when it started to make a very loud noise when spinning and the drum inside felt loose. Repair man (not Samsung) came to look at it and told me the 'spider bowl assembly' had broken, which will cost about $450-$480 to replace (incl. labour). Apparently on any other brand of… Read more

machine this is much cheaper to fix, as you only need to replace a small part, but on the Samsungs you have to replace the whole assembly. He also said that he doesn't usually see this problem until the machines are about 7-8 years old. We are only a couple using this machine and so don't have an excessive amount of laundry (compared to a family with kids), so I was surprised that ours has broken so early. Anyway, not worth replacing, so will be getting a new one - and on the repair guy's advice will probably get an LG, as he reckons they are the best value for money, quite long lasting and cheap to fix/replace parts if something does go wrong further down the track.

Aside from this problem, the machin has been pretty good. As per all the other reviews on here, the washer is much better than the dryer, which doesn't dry clothes that well and makes them smell a bit stale (even with scented tumble sheets in there). The washer is good, the 1400 spin cycle really gets the clothes pretty dry so they don't take too long drying on the line afterwards. The cotton cycle is very long though, at 1:58.

Sensor Dryer???? – I have owned other brand washer/dryer combos and found this the worst by far. I bought it as it claimed to have a "sensor system that detects the level of moisture remaining to help ensure it does not over dry the clothes". Did not last – Bought our WD8704EJA 3.5 years ago as space was an issue. Now its now, so we have a dedicated dryer that works 10 times better. Last week we started getting a 5E (SE?) error that meant it wasn't draining or something was stuck in the debris filter. Being out of warranty, we contacted Samsung and got told $110 callout fee. 4-5 days later a… Read more

technicians walks in the door, and without even seeing the machine (not even in the same room) he said we'd need a new pump... Now, either there's a latent defect on their pumps and this technician knows it, or their service people are just too lazy to see if there's a small issue. Over the weekend I got the machine pumping twice, but then it stopped again.

Have now ordered a Bosch to replace it. Not paying $250 for a pump replacement when the technician doesn't even check the machine. Bad customer service experience means I won't ever buy a Samsung again for anything. It's a combo machine, saves space. Poor out-of-warranty service experience.

Good washer, dryer not really – We use this to wash only as the dryer just leaves the clothes in a damp mess. But it does wash really well, and we're happy with it for that. I tried to sanitize my partners jacket and wrecked it. It does get pretty yucky in behind the detergent drawer, and it did block up and needed to be pulled apart and cleaned. It is pretty quiet though. Quiet, washes well. Dryer not very good

apart bit by bit. The Drum had broken away, the internal plastic holding the drum was scored right through, another section holding both had 2 cracks right through, and the last one cracking, needless to say, it was out of warranty, by 12 months.

Samsung, ordered the repairs and were so exceptional, and all costs incurred, Samsung obliging without hesitation, assumed all costs, parts and the refitting. We are so indebted to all and sundry for the professionalism, and our much loved Front Loader is back in full operation, which equals to us, no cut cords and place at the local tip as part of land-fill, at Mount Isa. We are over the moon and will sing Samsung and Micks Airconditioning, Matthews Music and Electrical all of Mount Isa, praises to the heavens and back, Matthews Music and Electrical also loaned us a beautiful washing machine, while ours was being repaired. 1000% out of 100. Good – Bought to have a dryer function where there's no room for a separate dryer, it replaced another Samsung washer which I used for five years without a problem. The Miele was more than three times the price and the LG's were also a lot more expensive and their steam wash is apparantly problematic. I find the 1400rpm spin cycle really gets heaps of… Read more

water out of the load, making the clothes dry much quicker either with the dryer or just hung on the line. Not all the cycles have 1400rpm spin so obviously sopping wet loads are going to takes ages to dry, as they would in a blow-through tumble dryer. Quiet operation except for the water valve inside (really whooshes like a jet when filling).

The condensor dryer means that you don't get moist air pumping out (or need to vent outside) and is apparantly a fair bit more energy efficient than tumble drying. I don't use fabric softener as it wrecks clothes and makes towells useless - materials which come out stiff such as terry towelling can have a quick tumble for 29 minutes, making them softer but not really roasting them like a tumble dryer does. The machine has not malfunctioned and I've had it for about 18 months. Overall I'm very happy with it! All in one unit (washer and dryer), a wide variety of cycles, quiet spin cycle, 1400rpm spin cycle really wrings water out very well. Little tune lets you know when the load is finished. Nice big door opening. Lint can collect around the door seal, small items can set themselves onto the door seal right behind the door and stay there until load is finished (need to put them in a delicates bag).

Love this machine! – There is always something to sacrifice when you combine functions: obviously you can't start a second wash whilst you are using the dryer, and being a front loading machine it does take longer for a full "cotton" cycle. But there is a great range of cycles for washing, and also different drying options eg a timed dry, iron dry and "cupboard"… Read more

dry. My experience is that some airing is still needed for most items, especially if you plan to put them back into storage for some time. I have king sized sheets, and tend to do the split the sheets into 2 separate loads - and so keep a second sheet set available!!

So, some planning is required to organise your laundry.

I would certainly recommend this machine to couples. Quiet operation; ability to set up machine to run during cheaper electricity tariff; range of spin speeds. Haven't had any problems to date.

earned money and I would like to get rid of it. Large washing capacity. Fast spin. Fairly quiet operation. Nice appearance. Lousy dryer. Takes hours and overdries the clothes making it hard to iron out the wrinkles. Can do without the musical tune it plays -annoying if you're washing late at night. You can't time dry -ie finish off something that is almost dry.

Terrible – Wish I had read the reviews before I made the purchase. Luckily the store I purchased it from did not hesitate to swap it for a different brand of combo. Do not waste your time. Very quiet machine. Problems from the first day with water leaking from the dispenser box. Sent it back on day 3 and did not buy another one of these. Chose to purchase the electrolux instead. The dryer is absolutely useless.

Sally, Kamal and Collin the customer service experience was brilliant. There was a fee and conditions re return however worth it to get rid of a nightmare of a machine. Capacity 7kgs goes down to 3.5kg drying and takes hours more hours and then more hours for the simplest of things to dry. Oh wait as there is no lint collecting component all the lint ends up in the rubber seal or inside door which is both annoying and not easy to clean. When cleaning the debris filter water gushed out all over the floor so spent more wasted time mopping up. The washing machine is sound but the dryer is useless. Sorry but will never recommend or buy a two in one machine again. Was not a woman who designed this machine!! 2 in 1 and above machine space saving concept Where do I start. The washing machine component is fine however the dryer component is rubbish. I will never by a two in one ever, ever, again!!!
