Selleys Grout Stain Whitener Questions & Answers
VerifiedIs there some kind of chemical I can use to strip the Selleys Grout Whitener from my bathroom floor tiles to take them back to the original grout? (I find the Whitener is just flaking off everywhere and I don’t like the white anyway!)
Hi Macca, Unfortunately there is no solvent that we can recommend to remove Selleys Grout Stain Whitener, the best way to remove is using warm soapy water with a mild scrubbing brush. You might need to do this several time to remove all. Selleys Help & Advice Team.
What about the Selleys Silicone Remover? Will that work?
Thanks. I’ll try it.
Hi there, we would not suggest to use the Selleys Silicone Remover. The Selleys Grout Stain Whitener is paint designed for grout surfaces, the Selleys Silicone Remover will not work on this type of product. Our best suggest is using warm soapy water with a mild scrubbing brush. Selleys Help & Advice Team
Macca, let me know if it works. I have the exact same problem. It has been just too annoying.
I have tried this but it’s too tedious and is not effective. Any other workable and effective solutions?
Having left the grout on the tiles longer than I should, I now have the problem of trying to remove the excess skim of it over the tiles. Any thoughts?
It will depend on the type of tile you have used this product on, but I would suggest sugar soap and a scouring pad/clothe and scrubbing the excess away. This product is grout paint not a cleaner.
As Patrick M says, it depends on the type of tile. Mine are smooth and I just used a kitchen scourer and water. I also apply the product with a toothbrush so there is less to clean off and less wastage.
Has anyone had success if just cleaning the tiles and grout first with normal shower cleaner, or does it really work if you use the Selleys grout and tile cleaner spray first?
How can I remove this product, it has been a long time since it has been applied and some has worn off, not giving a very good look. Please help?? Thank you
What are the ingredients, is it the same ingredients as grout just more liquidt?
Can you describe this product? Is this like a white paint that goes over the top of existing grout?
Yes
It's like gritty white paint
Works a treat
And lasts for ages
Hi, Does the product absorb into the grout? I have just gone over my tiles with white grout but have not sealed them yet. Maybe i could use this first. It's on a kitchen splash back and i wanted them ultra white. I have a few small dark patches. Does it seal the tiles also? Thankyou.
Definitely you can go over the existing grout to make it ultra white. . Which it will certainly do.... best to use a spray on sealant applied with a brush or something similar if there is going to be lots of contact with water. Apply the sellers whitener with silicone edgers that you can buy from Bunnings for 2 or 3 dollars. THEY COME IN PACKS OF 4 OR 5. Just apply the whitener onto the edge and then run that along your grout line. Hope this helps
You will be pleasantly surprised at the difference it will make.
Is there a video to demonstrate this product?
Mate just have a go. Clean the joints and wipe it on in sections. If there is residue after you wipe off the excess it is easily removed with a Stanley blade on edge after it's dried a bit.
Is it only usable if your existing grout colour is white?
According to Selleys website "Enables you to change the colour of grey or other coloured grout"
No it will whiten just about any grout ...might need more applications for darker grouts. Judge this after the grout has dried not directly after applying...hope this helps
does this come in texta shape for not so much waist?
Hi, the only option I saw was the sponge. We put it into the grout using a cotton bud. Worked a treat but was a little tedious.
Text as just won't give you sane results. Use a silicone edges you can purchase from Bunnings...apply to the corner of edge and apply with but of pressure down grout lines and you save a lot of wastage.
