Short Cast – I purchased this reel to go to the coast for some saltwater fishing but I did not do my research before buying it.This is what I found out soon after I got it. The Reel is a great price and well built, but when you try to cast it the handle will rotate over and engage the casting lever from the (off position) to the (on postion) and stop the cast short.

This is very frustrating and could be fixed with a stronger spring on the lever or add the counter balance to the reel.

I am a first time buyer of a bait caster and thought this was a good value for the price, but I was disappointed in the casting aspects of the reel. I liked the looks and the size of the reel, it holds a good amount of line and is built for salt water. when you try to cast it the handle will rotate over and engage the casting lever from the (off position) to the (on postion) and stop the cast short.

The disengaging lever should completely seperate the handle from the spool mechanism when you cast - alike to the Daiwa Saltist I own. You may have a faulty unit there mate - get onto Shakespeare Australia and ask them whats the story. Hope it helps.
