purchased a type j rod 4 years ago $580, hooked onto a fish the rod snapped in 2 places, 4 eye let's let go, the only thing stopping the rod from smashing me in the face was the line didn't break, attempts were made to contact shimano but was unsuccessful, the rod was never put under stress I've never had a rod snap in 2 places before, would not recommend buying this product
Follow-up · Rod was purchased at a local tackle shop, they come from same factory no point saying the exact store, rod was rigged up with a penn slammer 4500, the fish was a coral trout 450mm, very disappointing to think a heavy jig rod would fail after little use been 4 years old. And yes I did apply pressure to fish to lift it off the bottom, in saying the above i have had a good run with Shimano rods I just didn't expect this failure to occur with the which I thought minimal pressure applied, Shimano only warrant this particular rod for 12 months which is also disappointing considering the cost of a, I thought quality product from Shimano
