Yes these are a disappointment. Nearly all the side clips have broken off. The plastic hinges have broken off. The suction is too strong and sometimes I need a knife to prize it open. Would not recommend. Show details
Quality is bad. They are much thinner then previously made. NOT dishwasher safe as marked. Clips now are on the lid, inconvenient to use comparing to previous version with clips on the container box. Show details
What have Sistema done, these are just junk now. I have heaps of old ones still going strong after years, bought a new one recently and the quality is gone, flimsy plastic, won't easily clip closed or open. I won't be buying anymore that's for sure. What a disappointment! Good luck with that junk Sistema! Show details

Rubbish plastic lids - always break – Absolute RUBBISH - bought expense metal lunch box containers and decided to not place the plastic lids in the dishwasher at all and it made no difference. They broke within months - STAY WELL CLEAR of this RUBBSH Product Show details
Sistema change to lid – The new lid design is virtually impossible to open for you have issues with yor hands. The old design was perfect WHY CHANGE A GOOD PRODUCT and make it inferior.
WARNING! PLASTIC REACTS TO FOOD – Advertised as microwave safe when food reacts to the plastic causing chemical reaction and buildup. This cannot be safe. This NEW! container, first time microwaving meatballs, left raised coloured areas that neither scrubbing or soap can remove. Did the cheese and plastic meld together?! Is the food contaminated? Will it cause cancer? Either this is not microwave safe or food will react to it OR BOTH. I'm sticking to glassware. Show details
Latest follow-ups
Look good guy a real poulock to open when containing frozen food. Then the micro hinge for the clips deforms and no longer provide effective service. Sistema should offer recycling to use in the next production change, As I’m reluctant to put into landfill as they don’t have a recycling label. Show details
Follow-up · Slowly getting rid of them as the hinges fail and finding alternative containers
The new four clip Sistema containers are horrible. The original containers were awesome!!! I was a huge fan but the new ones are clumsy, awkward to use and don’t fit inside the old ones to stack in the cupboard. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD ONES!!! I LOVED THEM!!! Show details
Follow-up · They don’t stack properly. The clips are hard to close and the old two clip ones were perfect. They were so much better before the change. Clips worked smoothly. Boxes were stackable. The new design is difficult clumsy and I won’t buy them again. Also the response from Sistema when I sent an email was so generic. They didn’t take the complaints from all of us seriously and there are heaps of complaints.
In-depth reviews
More a comparison between the old KLIP IT and new Sistema KLIP IT Plus that replaced the old, based on what we use, especially the 7L and the 3L models. My observations did surprise me and maybe to you as well. 7L / 7.5L We love the 7L Sistema KLIP IT containers and were after a couple more, only to find the design has changed. While it looks… Read more
very similar to the old, with the iconic 4 clips, one on each side, the typical Sistema blue colour clips and silicone band seal, there were some marked differences.
Differences (new vs old)
- Capacity: 7.5L vs 7.0L. The 0.5L does make a noticeable difference / improvement but comes with a lot of buts. Read on.
- Lid: Frosted surrounds and bottom vs all clear, lipped at the corners to aid opening which were not needed with the old.
- Walls: More slanting vs more vertical walls.
- Dimensions: Height is standard 120mm unchanged between the old and the new. -- Lid (LxW): 358mm x 260mm (noticeably wider) vs 355mm x 235mm -- Bottom (LxW): 320mm x 223mm vs 332mm x 212mm, clearly demonstrating the slanting walls aforementioned
- Catches: 4 clips, double 10mm bites 75mm apart vs double 20mm bites 55mm apart, ie smaller and further apart, producing less prominent "clicks" when locked thus confidence. Catches are hinged on the lid (cf tub as per old model), locks in flipping down to catch the ridges at the rims of the tub. There is not one click but at least a couple of clicks. What does this mean and why? Old version catch bites onto the sturdy lid with thick strong surrounds while newer model bites onto ridges in the tub. You can see the wall warps as it catches.
- Weight: 454g vs 537g. The difference is obvious especially with the lid which feels much thinner and much easier to bend / warp with the slightest force compared with the old which inspired much confidence in terms of sturdiness.
- Seal: The silicone band is markedly different from the old. Instead of a standard band with a round cross section, the new band is rectangular which fits into the tub. This means even if the lid gets substantial pressure from the inside, it won't affect the quality of the seal. This is a significant improvement over the old if seal is important to you. This also explains why the new model is harder to open.
- Stackable: Ridges on bottom and depressed area on lid for stacking, sufficient but not as secure as the old version.
- Aesthetic: Sistema logo gets white colour on the clips and there is one molded one on the lid. Old version has molded logo on catches and nothing on the lid.
- Compatibility: Smaller containers eg 3.35L etc can stack on the larger 7.5L. However, new and old are not compatible. The newer 7.5L can not stack on top of the old 7.0L model or vice versa.
Good / Bad - More capacity is always good. However, as Sistema's name implies, it is about a system. I believe Making the new stackable on top of the old given the similar dimensions, is not only doable but an important requirement. After all, the newer models are bigger than the older model making this viable.
- The catches / clips do not feel nearly as good as the old, probably due to the more filmsy lid and also the opposite catch mechanism - flipping down rather than up. Old lid has such sturdy surrounds, once the catches are released, the lid comes off easily. With the newer model, the extra / newly added lips need to be used and pulled on multiple sides to get the lid off. Much more troublesome! Not sure if users holding the container would hold the protruding surround of the lid, accidentally catches the clips, opening them thus the lid dropping all the delicious contents inside. This is highly unlikely given it has 4 catches. But hey, who in a little rush, has not used only two of the 4 catches? On an interesting note, many flip the container upside down for carrying cakes. The catches work much better when the container is upside down! Try this!
3L / 3.35L The story doesn't end here. It is not so clear when you look at the smaller model - 3.35L. Only 7L model of the old version gets 4 catches. Its smaller sibling 3L only gets 2. OTOH, newer model 3.35L container gets 4 catches! This would probably makes for a more secure locking, probably needed since the newer version is flimsier than the old. With the extra catches, the newer model is heavier than the old at 276g (cf 265g).
Given the 7.5L big brother has wider sides. The 3.35L is longer than the old but exactly the same width as the old. Dimensions (LxW): 255mm x 175mm vs 235mm x 175mm lid and 215mm x 152mm vs 220mm vs 140mm bottom. Height is standard 120mm unchanged thank God!
If freshness is your number one criteria, this Sistema KLIP IT Plus is a no brainer / best of breed. Based in the design of the seal, it probably provides the best seal for the price.
Getting an extra 2 catches (and larger capacity) with the 3.35L container is attractive and produces a more secure lock, better seal and protection for the contents inside.. Smaller containers do not get more than 2 catches. I feel like the old created a good system. Not sure what was the compelling reason to create a new model incompatible with the old. Pantry usually have shelves that can move up or down changing the height of each shelve, not width or length. If you have a ton of the old and seeking to expand your storage system, the new won't mix with the old, or at least would demand some compromises.
There is no clear winner between the old and the new. Hope this information helps your purchase decision. Based on how good the seal is, despite it makes the lid harder to open (an oxymoron really). I think the new KLIP IT Plus does its job well. Being incompatible with the old and latches are more likely to fall off makes it lose one star in my review. Therefore, I give it 4 stars. It is (still) a good product!
Best to Worst In One Foul Move – There is ample comment here abouth the ridiculous fingernail breaking, food catapaulting unergonomic failure that Sistema lids have become. However, more importantly , I think that the overall ACTUAL design is now so retrograde so as to render every modicum of previous usefullness and long held, hard fought for Sistema goodwill now extinct. good is a shape that holds less and takes up more space, is difficult to store and simply costs far more than before to deliver a product 3 generations inferior to the superseded design? Why did you taper them so steeply? Not only has Sistema gone backwards, they have done it spectactularly. We simply hate your products completely now. We USED to love and refer them. The size shape and lid is like it was >designed by your competeion< to run you out of business. It's clearly a great plan. It's working. I won't even inflict these hollow cupboard viruses on my local op-shop. I hope there is a local plastic shredder or recyler who takes inferior rubbish, somewhere near us.

Great for storage BUT are NOT water tight – Like others below I thought that this product would have water air tight seals. Now I cannot trust that these are airtight as I have found NONE of mine to be water-tight, following experimenting after a leaking lunch salad incident :( I believe the reason is that the seals need to have even pressure applied all around the lids by the clips;… Read more
and that even pressure needs to be maintained under various conditions.
The Klip It sealing system (pressure on hollow seals ) either does not have sufficient, or even pressure to obtain this, in my belief. I was easily able to shake and drain water from the 2, 3 and 4 sided clip range of small to large rect. sq and round Klip Its that I bought before checking for water tightness. Placing them sideways or on a sloping surface increased the leaking potential.
To be fair there is NO claim for being water tight made on any of my recently bought products labels.......
HOWEVER I REALLY like these containers because they are EASY TO OPEN and STACK and STORE items NEATLY and VISIBLY and they are COST EFFECTIVE - especially when they are frequently discounted, and so that is the reason for 5 stars.
I love them in fact. I am using them on shelves in pantry to store individual short term-opened or unopened "packaged" items, where they seem to be ant, mice, cockroach and weevil safe (but they are kept in cleaned pantry without signs of infesting critters!); in the fridge for fresh produce, leftover meals, sliced meats, prepared salads and now also for my sewing bits and collector collections.... The range is useful for every storing option thinkable. I use them in transit for lunches, without liquid factors, and take care of keeping them upright when I do.

These new design are terrible, they are so hard to open, clips pull off but lid stays on and is hard to get off. They also take force to close. Please change the design Sistema. I won't be purchasing any more of this product again Show details
I don't like the clips on the lids. The containers were easier to open when the clips were on the tubs. Time to change to another user friendly product on the market. Show details
I have been using Sistema storage for years, they were a great product and it was easier to use one brand to standardise stacking in my freezer. I have great issues with the new lids, I have arithtis in both my thumbs and find the new lids near impossible. My partner finds the same problem and his hands are fine. I have taken my new Sistema containers to the op shop. I am gradually replacing my old ones when I need to with a different brand. Show details
The new clips are total rubbish... will now be changing brands after many years of happy use with the old clips. Our family threw out all the recent new ones we bought. Definitely buy something else! Show details
I used to buy Sistema 7l containers which had clips on the lower container section of the item. These were really good and clipped the lid on easily. They were also protected more and the clip holders didn't break easily. I would give them a 10/10. BUT then Sistema redesigned the container to make it a 7.5l. The clips are now located on the lid.… Read more
It is hard to make them clip on and the parts that hold the blue clips are not as protected and will break off if you put the container on its side which I do for storage space. I now regard these as an expendible item and have to replace them regularly. I rate them a 4/10
Sistema were contacted but basically said that the product was not faulty design. What they were interested in doing was making me prove purchase and who keeps receipts for supermarkets.
Well designed for stacking and 100% watertight. Carrying these to and from work and not a spill once. Very dependable and I like the modularity of the different sizes. I have everything from tiny to several litres. Great for keeping veg fresh in the fridge too.
These use to be amazing!! Back when they was only two clips they were sturdy and indestructible. I have recently bought 2.2l and 3.35. the plastic feels flimsier. The clips " aren't as agreeable" - just a bit more finicky to get them to click on and they even sound cheaper and a hell of a lot louder. They just aren't anywhere near the quality and awesome they were. I think 2 starts is being generous. Maybe 1/1/2 hehehe.
They were great once. Not any more – The new Systema containers are not a patch on the old ones. The previous ones by the original makers were excellent and went on for ever. Easy on easy off yet well sealed. Now the top won’t come off without a struggle and sometimes brings one of the clips off with it. Then when you go to put the lid back on one of the four usually won’t click… Read more
home. For the larger containers the walls are too weak which means there is not enough strength to push against to push the clip home. Amazing what a change of ownership can do to a once excellent product. Very sad.

Horrible new system – The old system worked perfectly well & I have many different sized containers which still work today. The new system with the clips on the lids is terrible & so difficult to use. I will not be purchasing anything further from Systema. So disappointing!
So disappointing! – Why, oh why did they change the design?!? It was an excellent product, it didn't need to be changed. Now the clips are impossible to close & the containers feel so flimsy. And the are a different shape that doesn't stack on the old ones. Such poor quality, I don't expect them to last long & I certainly won't be buying any more. Show details
Bring back the original design – Bring back the original design. The containers are SO HARD to close. I am in my 40s and struggle. It begs the question how difficult it would be for the elderly. There was nothing wrong with original design, so why has it changed? Containers have also snapped when I’ve tried to close them.
Product Destroyed by Company Sale – Like any good NZ company once it becomes successful it gets sold to a multinational company whom try to make back the cost of the company purchase by bastardising the products I.e. In this case changing the design, using less robust material and cutting back on costs like labour. I will never purchase another product and am actively encouraging others to look elsewhere for there containers. Was once a great product and company. Very disappointing Show details
Design is rubbish – Unbelievable they changed the design now the handles are on the lid and fall off everytime you open the container, what was a world leading design is now absolute rubbish. You’ve killed the brand. So many people Will not return. Used to be the best containers and now it’s absolutely rubbish. It’s telling when the older containers that are 5+ years old are outlasting the ones bought 6 months ago.
