Defaults to pyro mode – Hello There, my top oven has stopped working, the bottom over does still work. However now when I use the bottom oven it series of the pyro mode in the top oven each time. I have to turn it off at the fuse box and then leave it off. Any thoughts? Show details ·  1

Excellent oven, fault with lining – I purchased the DOSPA38X in 2014 for $2999. Loved it! I used the pyrolytic function only 3 times, the last time found the lining flaking. I contacted SMEG who agreed to come to the party to replace it, but I ended up with a new oven. Thank you SMEG unlike other brands I've dealt with previously. Show details

Great oven but the coating on the oven has bubbled up and is rusting – We installed the oven into our new kitchen in 2015. I bought it as I hate cleaning ovens and using nasty oven cleaners. This was a perfect solution as the oven cleans itself. The oven has been fantastic until today when I found the coating on the inside of roof at front near the seal has bubbled peeled and rusting. Very disappointed as I bought Smeg as it is meant to be a good brand. Show details

Confusing instructions for controls – Both ourselves and our neighbour bought this oven as we loved the design. We have found the control instructions very hard to follow as they seem to miss out key steps! Maybe it's a translation thing but they are certainly not "plain English". Is there an online simple step by step user guide?  Show details

Very happy after 3 months – We have had this oven installed for about 3 months, and are very happy with it. The controls took a little while to get used to but work faultlessly. Have used the self-cleaning function twice with great results. The oven heats up quickly, cooks with an even heat and stays cool to the touch at all times. Gladly recommend it.  Show details

It exploded – After 8 months of having this oven it blew up on the self cleaning mode, glass went everywhere like bullets and it caused a lot of damages as well as the fire alarms going off. Lucky the children, myself and my partner weren't in the kitchen when this occurred or it could have been really bad. Really recommend not buying this, there are so many safer options.  Show details

Good oven - until the door exploded – Have had this oven for 18 months and have found it great - the controls are not as easy to use as they could be but otherwise it performs fantastically - until i decided to use the pyrolitic cycle for the second time - the glass in the door has exploded - like with the other reviews on this site.  Show details

Great Oven - Elegant, Cool to the Touch, Quiet and Easy to Clean and Operate – Replaced a faulty Blanco equivalent oven with this Smeg beauty, when the Blanco was going to cost more to fix multiple failed elements and seals than it was worth! It was an exact fit in place of the failed Blanco, and took only an hour to install, and get ready for action. It took my wife a couple of attempts to master the digital controls, but… Read more

she is very happy with it now too, although we both find the menus and temperature adjustment scroll a bit to fast for our personal preference.

Our cooking results are excellent!

We use both ovens, including the extra sliding rail set in the main oven, baking and grilling almost every day.

It was one of those purchases I had to make in a hurry by myself, buy at the store, then pickup from the local warehouse, and install that same afternoon.

It worked straight out of the box, with no issues in the past 9 months.

We love it!

5 stars for cooking results but 2 stars for control design – I live in NZ and this oven was highly recommended by KitchenThings. Due to delays with a house build it had a birthday before I first tried to use it in 2015. I had zero success getting the main oven to work despite trying to follow the manual. Eventually I returned to the shop and was shown how to use it. I still find it temperamental and find… Read more

having to deactivate the childlock every time I want to do anything very frustrating as it's wall mounted and we have no kids. One thing the sales person did emphasise is that it's critical you do not scratch the glass doors, as they can explode when the pyrolytic function is used. This means NEVER using the door to push the trays back in or resting hot or cold trays/racks on the glass. I have been really careful about this and so far the pyrolytic function has been fantastic but given how many people are complaining exploding doors have happened to them, perhaps this info isn't well communicated to consumers. I was also advised to try and keep the glass clean as sometimes dirt can be burned on in the pyro function and it won't come off.

I have to say it does cook beautifully although the function guide in the back of the NZ manual doesn't include things like muffins, biscuits and pastry for the main oven which would be helpful! I still think the main oven controls are too complicated; the lower oven is simple to use.

Fan fixed buttons replaced by an efficient and knowledgable engineer. Only difficulty was the length – Oven fixed , buttons and fan replaced, service engineer efficient and knowledgeable. The only snag was having to wait so long for parts to arrive . However the oven is now working at pique performance again . It also needed a new element . No explanation as to why the element failed .  Show details

Very disappointed – As we have this oven underneath our hot plates we have accidently turned the pyroletic function on without even knowing it. The first time this happened we had pans in it and had to throw them out. The dial used to turn it on only has to be knocked slightly while u are cooking on the stove top and it turns on. Would be okay as a wall oven but as… Read more

Don't buy this product – I bought the products in 2014 and had them installed in 2016, they were an oven and cooktop. The silver foil in the oven fell and the cooktop's gas didn't work from installation, when I rang Smeg they wouldn't help me because "the warranty was out of date". Don't spend the extra money buying the pyrolytic function – We bought a DOSPA 3695Xmthinking the extra '00's would be worth the investment. Don't waste your money paying for the pyrolytic oven - Glass explodes on pyrolytic function – I bought the pyrolytic oven less than 12 months ago - and has only been used for 7 months in that time. found the person I spoke to at SMEG was unhelpful and rude. This person also informed me that the outer glass even if it is damaged by their faulty product is not covered under warranty. What is the point of spending extra money and something that is supposed to be of a "good brand" which you cannot use. Because it is currently under warranty, a replacement glass is coming but I would prefer a new oven including the installation to be provided considering that the oven is now scratched from the exploding glass, and they cannot tell whether there was a problem with the oven itself - not just the glass.

Pyroletic function is magic – I purchased my oven about 6 months ago with some concerns regarding negative reviews about the glass doors and lamp casing breaking while using the pyrolytic function. Well I have used the function a couple of times now (first time with great trepidation) but I have to say the oven was spotless at the end of it and no problems with the glass. … Read more

The only downside for me is that you have to remove the side shelf supports before you can use the function but really it is a minor whinge considering how easy it is to clean the oven compared to other ovens I have used. I have to admit I am not keen on the controls which as an older person I find a bit confusing to use and I also find the lower oven cooks a little on the cool side. Having said that, SMEG do hold free demonstration courses to help new owners get the best from their ovens which I think it pretty good. I have registered but havent been as yet.

The Manager at SMEG was excellent by the way when I raised concerns about this oven and I ended up buying all my kitchen appliances from SMEG. I had a problem with my extractor fan when it was first installed and they took the old one away and replaced it very quickly and efficiently. Very pleased so far and I will review all the other appliances individually.

Complicated to figure out how to use – I had to laugh at the previous review. So true. Going to try that game on our visitors. After 6 months my tech. to steam food at 180' on the middle shelf. You need a cooking class for sure to learn this one. Got the double oven but still haven't figured out how to turn them on at the same time.

One major factor to spend this sort of money was cleaning. Its excellent Pyrolytic cleaning everything turns to ash. Just wipe out. I use the oven tray cleaning bags from the supermarket to clean the metal shelves. But you need to be able to cook in it to clean it. Right?

Just wish I could get more use out of this expensive oven as I love to cook. Haven't even attempted a roast. Which my family loves. If I could put in a sad emoji I would!

Features aren't benefits if you dont know how to use them – After 9 months, I actually like the ovens but I'm not using either of them to anywhere near their full potential because I just don't know how to. We have a game in our house: whenever someone new admires the sleek look of the ovens we bet them $100 that they can not get the oven to "turn on" and operate at "200 degrees" in the "fan… Read more ·  1

In hindsight, I would have purchased a cheaper oven with less functions if I knew how hard it was going to be to understand the instruction manual and operate the knobs..

Oven explodes during self cleaning cycle – We just purchased Smeg pyrolytic Double Oven and we loved everything about it. Three months later while we had cleaning function on the oven glass shuttered all over our kitchen. The noise was very bad and quite scary. I am not sure if this is normal after 3 months of use and Smeg will arrange the repair but I would prefer replacement.

Hard to understand instructions, should clarify and simplifly – As above, have spent lots of time to get it going. should have simple step by step instructions to turn on and get going to do a straight usage. Good Oven but Controls are NOT Intuitive – Found that the double ovens work really well, but the controls for the top oven are are a nightmare to figure out (bottom oven is pretty simple). You have to push, flick and push some more, and the manual is definitely NOT simple to follow, for example, if you flick the main oven function control too hard, you miss some of the cooking options… Read more

and for a while I thought they were missing. Also, there is no separate On/Off switch for the main oven- you need to push and hold the function control until standby mode comes on to switch the main oven off (The auxiliary oven does however switch off when you turn the function nob to 0, as per the instructions)

I think SMEG have tried to put too many functions into the temperature and function controls, and it took me quite a while to figure it all out.

Other than that, it is a really good oven

Great oven until it explodes – We bought the Smeg DOSPA38X March 2015, ironically we went for the Smeg because our cheaper option had reported exploding glass doors. I Love It – I really love my Smeg double classic pyrotech oven. It looks amazing and the cooking functions are great for me because they're well classic like old school ovens. Melbourne service centre) and they were great. Promptly came out to replace it and it works a dream. I haven't used the pyro clean and admit I am a little afraid to given the reviews about exploding glass. Better do it before the warranty runs out I guess. The service guy did say that SMEG use the same glass manufacturer as all the other top brands. I wonder why they do when their customers report this fault. But he made a great point that out of the hundreds of thousands of Smeg ovens sold every year only a handle full will do this.

Everyone will have a different experience of a product and most likely we will read the negative more often than the positive. All our kitchen appliances are Smeg and we love it.

Great oven but Beware - buy extended warranty! – We bought this oven in June 2014 from Harvey Norman. Have loved using it - baking, roasting etc. Its easy to keep clean, looks great in the kitchen. Then last week, out of the blue, at 5pm I heard this sound like a glass bowl dropped and thousands of marbles falling everywhere. I went into the kitchen and was shock to see the Smeg oven glass door… Read more

all smashed into thousands of pieces all over the floor! We had not even used the oven on that entire day. My 9 year old daughter who was in the kitchen at the time was fortunate to not be in the line of fire when the glass exploded out. This oven was not yet one year old. I took photos of the damage and mess.

I quickly called up Harvey Norman, who promptly arranged for Smeg service to call me the following business day.

When speaking to Smeg, they did not seem alarmed or worried. They basically forwarded me onto their outsourced service company Alantin who also seemed calm and collected and asked me which glass was broken - the inner or the outer. I told them it was the outer and the lady said she will have to order it in.

At this point, I asked her if it is quite normal for a Smeg oven glass door to just blow and smash for no apparent reason? The lady from Alantin said it may be due to the installation (which we used Harvey Normans installers), rough movement during transportation, a defect in the glass during manufacturing etc etc.

Anyway, after a week, my oven outer glass door is replaced. I now have to make sure none of my kids are standing in front of the oven watching their little cupcakes rising.

I've learnt that even with a Brand like SMEG, where we are paying big money, I would expect the product to more robust. I can't buy an extended warranty on this now, and so I just hope that this incident won't happen again.
