Decision making – I’ve just bought a Smeg induction cook top. Looking for a Smeg steam oven. It sounds like we are paying good money for brand name but not quality. Can anyone suggest which one is reliable on the market? Thanks so much. Tom

Unreliable – I must say I’m very disappointed with this product. The steam oven was in the house when we moved in, so I have estimated the purchase date to the date the house. It was not working when we moved in, so got it serviced. $900 dollars to get it working again ! Have used it about 5 times since and now it has broken down again. Another service call has been arranged, but I feel I’m throwing good money after bad. I would replace it with another brand in a heartbeat, but that also means replacing the (working) matching conventional oven as well.
Seems to perform OK when its working, but this level of reliability is unacceptable.

Never buy a smeg steam oven – Like several reviewers, I have a very expensive Smeg steam oven which is completely useless. We have had continual problems with the water reservoir, which claims to be full/empty/whatever when it is not. But worse than that the display unit is clearly not steam proof (a requirement in a steam oven if you think about it) and goes wrong every few weeks after being replaced. After several replacements we've given up on ours - we just no longer use it.
Only one thing would satisfy us: our money back. A $20 bamboo steamer is a great solution for most applications - and you'll never have to call out a service man.
