We upgraded our oven to one similar with pyrolitic function about 5 years ago. Today when I tried to use this pyrolitic function for the first time it started to heat up for 5 minutes and then dead! And it's locked! I found the switch for the oven in the meter box was down and could not be pushed up again with indoor isolation switch was on. When… Read more
I switched off isolation switch the outside switch could be switched on. Talked to an electrician. He told me it's definitely the oven problem, not the cable or switch problem. Tried to talk to Smeg service. They said it is out of warranty and they charge call out fee for every 15 minutes! I guess no one is using pyrolitic function every day or very often? I tried to use it for the very first time! Terrible quality of the Smeg oven? Will never use this brand again!
Smeg SFA7300TVX 70CM CLASSIC THERMOSEAL OVEN – I had to replace my older Smeg oven, same look, catalytic version because technician couldn't fix a part in the door circuit- apparently not made anymore..... Previous oven I had for 10-12 years and loved it. Really disappointed with the new version. Enamel interior gets filthy and is hard to clean even with the self clean program. The door glass… Read more
does not seem to be the same quality either and despite wiping it down each time it attracts residue which bakes on and is really tough to get off requiring the door to be taken off and all panels cleaned. But my greatest problem is that unlike the previous model, this one has no upper guard to protect the upper element and as a result any splatters burn on the element causing smoke. Furthermore, lacking an upper guard, the upper interior enamel lining above the top element gets filthy and cannot be cleaned. Side racks are tricky, the left one constantly slipping out as it doesn't seem to fir properly, this is dangerous as it has caused trays to nearly tumble out with the oven hot- that's a nightmare. On the plus side it heats up and cooks well, but I really miss my old oven, especially when I have to clean this one. If I had have know it was enamel inside I doubt I would have bought it, my fault in that i expected the same features as the older one.

Black cooker screen stopped working – Similar issue to others on this page. Cooking control screen goes blank (black) which means the controls on the oven don’t work. Had to unplug at wall as it was impossible to switch it off. Oven Technician can’t do anything. Show details

Be Wary – We upgraded to Smeg appliances during build and paid premium. SFPA9395 Oven door have issues from past few months, does not close fully. We were advised door for these ovens are pretty heavy. Tech is working on replacing hinges. I feel sorry to say that I was not expecting this sort of miss from such an expensive 5k+ such reputed Smeg appliance atleast. Show details
Dangerous Software problems – After 4 months My SFPA7395X2 has started to show similar software issues that others have reported. The controls just freeze randomly and the clock freezes as well. Its dangerous because it gets stuck in the ON state and needs to be turned off at the circuit breaker. Not expected from a 5000 dollar device Show details

Brand new oven does not work properly – The SMEG customer service for QLD is fantastic, which is worth an extra star. Brand new SMEG installed today - read the instructions before even turning it on. Followed instructions for first use to a tee and after 1.5 hrs just barely warm. Tried every cooking setting - same results. A few times it wouldn't even start due to open door - which… Read more
was definitely closed. Now the internal light is still on despite turning the oven off hours ago. The two knob navigational system is cumbersome compared to some cheaper brands. Good amount of cooking space inside considering the shorter size.
Called SMEG customer service re the heating issue - quickly confirmed via phone that it is a warranty issue. A quick email of the invoice while on the phone and a service job was logged with the closed service technician. Very happy with the customer service - just bitterly disappointed that a brand new $5000 oven doesn't even work out of the box and seems to be a not an unusual issue. First appliance we have ever gone "top of the line" for after 10 years with a no name brand oven that worked just fine and died a natural death. We were limited with choices due to the cavity space available but honestly we should have gone a cheaper model. Pretty disappointed, hopefully it can be fixed. If it can be fixed and works really well, I will consider changing the star rating.
EDIT TO ADD: The door was finally repaired and since then, we have had no further issues. I have changed the star rating to 3, as I am still not overly impressed for the cost of this oven. It is an average oven and the self-cleaning is not worthwhile at all.
Good oven but misses being great – First the bad. The controls were designed by a deluded person who was once scared by a computer. The 'knobs' are essentially joy sticks where you have to navigate through menus each time and none of the settings get memorised for next use. Irritating not a problem. It has to be noted SMEG is not alone in perverse controls. The racks and… Read more · 1
telescoping side rails need to be removed for a pyrolytic cleaning cycle. The Americans got past this decades ago. Easy to remove but inconvenient to replace and the side rail units have squared edges on round structures that can, will, and do scratch the oven interior if not properly aligned for re-insertion. How hard would it be to round and polish them?
The spacing between the 3 non-adjustable shelf heights does not always work to use 2 levels simultaneously. A previous model apparently had 4 non-telescoping rails spaced better.
Some of the settings take inordinately long to pre-heat. The 'solution' is to use fan forced or supercook to preheat and change to the desired cooking mode; that requires a 5 second press of the control to cancel that mode and then navigating to the desired mode, resetting the temperature, and (re)starting it.
If the door is opened or ajar when a pyrolytic clean is started it shows an error code 4 after a few minutes and cancels the clean. How hard would it have been to display 'door open!'? You only need to experience this once to learn about the error code, but to me it shows a lack of maturity. Again SMEG is not alone doing such things.
Now the good parts. Very pleased with the quality of meals I have been making. Surprisingly good in fact.
The door has 4 glass panels and the oven blows air between the innermost panel and main door panels to keep them cool. That inner panel snaps off easily for cleaning, a nice touch.
The door comes off and reinserts easily for cleaning.
The service company (who I needed) were excellent and SMEG themselves very responsive and helpful to questions, perceived problems, and real problems. Big tick all around for customer support. They also have showrooms in the capitals, offer cooking classes and so on as well as displays of all their products. Good experience visiting.
The cool down after use includes a bar graph of relative temperature on the display. It takes quite a while to cool down indicating it is very very well insulated.
We find the operating fans unobtrusive although a Choice test called them out as being loud on the cleaning cycle. They might be louder than some but are not at all loud in our kitchen.
Notes, it is a non-standard 70cm wide, the door is not vertical when closed but about 95 degrees from plane not 90. The latter has to be considered during installation as it is a few mm sticking out at the door bottom.
Overall we are pleased with the purchase and after 2 months regular use the only real nit is the need to remove the rails and racks for a cleaning cycle. The controls get some profanities aimed at them but they work OK.
Clicking noise – Recently purchased and love the oven. Great for cooking variety of food, good at various temperatures & works well multiple times throughout the day. However, now has a clicking sound while cooking which is quite annoying. Cannot ascertain the issue for it to stop. Happens at different temperatures & different settings. Appreciate some help. Like it but long time to preheat – I like the oven as it is quiet and looks great BUT it takes a very very long time to preheat. Over 1 hour to get to 220 degrees which is obviously too long. Hopefully someone from Smeg will contact me so we can discuss if there is a problem. Show details

Luckily we normally don't use oven to cook anything anyway. But truly a terrible product.
