Its ok but I would try something else next time – I received a soda stream crystal as a gift for Christmas. It's ok, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again. The main reason is the water isn't that bubbly, though if you hold the button down for 4 "burps" it's not too bad. It seems to vary based on the gas refill cartridge you get - it's improved over time, though the cartridges are getting more expensive over time as well - it's up to $27 - $30 now, and using it once a day it lasts two months. That's around $0.50 per bottle, which is a little bit cheaper than buying soda water, though it's more convenient.

When I release the bottle after making bubbly water the part of the machine rises up to release the bottle as it's meant to, but not quite high enough or faster enough. The bottle always catches on the white gas injector, which makes me think it will break at some point. It takes ages to rise up as well, so I end up pushing it up so all the gas doesn't escape before I can get the lid on the bottle. It's a pointless gimmick that makes things worse. If you have to get a soda stream machine, get the cheaper version. I got this version with the glass bottle to avoid microplastics, but given water is delivered in plastic pipes, filtered in a plastic water pitcher, having it in a glass bottle for 20 minutes probably isn't important.

So all in all it's ok. The cheaper soda stream model I had about 5 years ago worked a LOT better.

Purchased in at Farmers NZ for $240.

A quick guideline to how many times to push the button: 2 times – light fizz 4 times – medium fizz 6 times – strong fizz

LOW CARBONATION – 55 TO 60 LITRES MEDIUM CARBONATION – 50 TO 55 LITRES HIGH CARBONATION – 45 TO 50 LITRES

You can also repeat additional presses if you like a very high fizz, also it is normal to hear the sound of escaping gas with each additional press. Personally, I like to pump it 8-9 times for the extra fizz.

We hope this helps.

Thanks. I pushed it until I got about 8 bursts of gas today, it was better.

Good but light on instructions – I've only had this a few weeks, and wanted a soda stream because I love cold fizzy water, but don't want to add to waste. I got this model rather than the cheaper one as it has glass bottles, and I like drinking out of glass. It comes with one bottle and 2 glasses, and I purchased a second bottle for about $15 from David Jones. The unit looks nice. At first I was disappointed as the water was not fizzy, but after reading the positive review that was already on here looked it up on youtube. You have to press the top down about 7 times for 1 to 2 seconds. I was pressing once and holding it down. So it seems quite good, but instructions on how to use would be good.

Purchased in at Myer for $179.

No more plastic bottles - Sodastream Crystal - the best way to make your own sparkling drinks – It's worried me for some time that I take a few plastic drink bottles a week and dump them in the recycling bin. I'm also trying to de-plastic our home. So I did the maths and figured that this product from Sodastream - Crystal Titan - would be the best for me. Even allowing for the fact that this model is at the top of the range, factoring in the cylinder cost, compared with buying mineral water this is more economical. This model features glass bottles! Yes! The Promo pack contains the unit, plus a cylinder that can make 60 litres of very fizzy water, 2 solid glasses that are quite pleasant to drink from and some very slight paperwork plus one solid, easy to hold 600ml bottle. The bubbles are quite large, not so much like the 'mousse' of quality champagne, but very sharp and refreshing. The machine itself is pretty intuitive, so the fact that the instructions are a bit sparse was not a worry. There is a good video on Youtube and on sodastream.com.au which will make you feel better about the noise of the process. I would have liked some DIY cordial recipes but the company website has quite a bit of info on it. They also sell flavours on that site. Recipes for DIY syrups are available on the web if that is your thing. You can pour your soda over the top of some fresh fruit eg. passion fruit or mix it with wine for a DIY cooler. FYI, the unit stands 450 mm tall at the highest point so it is necessary to clear a space for it if you don't want to store it permanently on the bench. So far so good - it makes dense bubbles that don't go flat for ages in a glass - days longer if kept in the Sodastream bottles in the fridge. Use colder water for a better result. My next step will be to make some tonic water and have ordered some special syrups crafted in Tasmania. No more bottles to landfill from this family! It is a great product - stainless steel base with plastic at the back. Myer price-matched so I bought a second 600 ml bottle. (essential as they only hold 600 ml. and it's good tot put the water in the fridge before processing) There's another thing I appreciate - this small logo was on the box with an impressive message. Water is very important in that region so it is quite heartening to see the company's commitment to peace and brotherhood along with making a great, water-related product.
