SodaStream Gaia

Bought mine from Kelston Woolworths in Auckland. Last one on shelf and half price...should have known. First time using bottles would twist and lock but top seal leaks all CO2 into upper head. So no pressure and zero carbonation of water. I threw out receipt as bought with groceries. I suspect it was a returned faulty put back on the shelf. So can only review this item as junk and a loss of $70 and a bad experience. Deffective out of the box. Show details
The machine works well but Sodastream service is abysmal! I ordered the starter kit with some flavours...it arrived minus the plastic bottle. When I phoned Sodastream, their response was that the bottles are out of stock. Wouldn't good business practice be to advise the customer? A starter pack that you can't use....utterly hopeless. A mixed bag – Our family had wanted a sodastream for a while and this device has been fairly good. The unit is used most days and the gas bottles are easily replaced at the back of the device. There was an error with the gas valve after we had been using it for around 12 months, however sodastream customer service were quickly able to identify the issue when I… Read more
called and replaced the device in a few days. Excellent customer service.
A few gripes I have centre around the bottles themselves when compared to older models of Sodastream bottles. The 'Gaia' bottles are shaped a lot like bowling pins; middle-heavy with a small surface area base, and as such they are easily knocked over when bumped accidentally. The older models seem to be shaped more like traditional drink bottles with the widest diameter matching the base of the bottle.
I have also found that the attachment mechanism for carbonation is a little hit and miss. 1/10 times the bottle won't sit inside the mechanism properly, and the water will spill out all over the bench top.
Also, the pink gas bottles (the only bottles this unit takes) aren't available everywhere. The old blue bottles are in constant supply, but I've been to buy replacement bottles on many occasions from service stations etc. only to find that they don't supply pink bottles, only the blue ones.
If I were to purchase again, I'd consider an older model of sodastream.

Worthless piece of junk – We were able to use it 5 times before it broke. Show details
Design has impressed me – I have had a few of these before, in the late 80's. Its been a while and thats because they sold at Christmas and then shops would not stock Co2 refills after that. So lets get this clear , I have not owned one for a long time as that really annoyed me . Anyway I got one as a gift for Christmas 2023. The design has changed, bottles are bigger… Read more
and they now have some syndication with Pepsi as a syrup additive , along with many others. I work with Co2 , its qute dangerous and using plastic to house it in bothers me.
To be fair , These Co2 gas bottles are well made and the sealing system is simple and effective for the light weight housing. I found it easy to use, one thing was when you screw in the platic bottle to charge up, there is a point which it seems docked but I found that it needed an extra twist, hence a blowout on first use. Well I sorted that out on the second go, and all ok with a good carbonation effect.
Im giving it a 5 star because it did not blow up in my face with all the plastic in this thing and the gas bottle loaded easily with little resistance. I suggest that its been engineered well for the main function. I use it for soda water only , I find it a cheaper and more welcomed alternative to the botted sparkling water.
I bought a spare charge bottle , makes sense to do so.
