Rubbish TV – Bought it 1.5 years ago. After 6 months of working fabulously we are constantly having to factory reset it cos it won't connect to the wifi. To be correct It says its connected to wifi but has no internet. All our other "different" brand TVs have no problems with the wifi. Its not as user friendly as the salesman advised. When watching movies… Read more

the sound effects and music is too loud and the talking is too low. And yes everyone has had a go at changing the sound settings. This problem just occurred a year after we bought it. The picture is decent and if I didn't have to factory reset it and then download all the apps again and then log into all of them every week id be happy enough with it. But it's a pain and now I think its rubbish and am saving up for another TV.

Besides the mood swings, it's excellent – Love the tv it's got great picture and good features. The only thing I can't stand is where it will turn itself off and restart. Or it will exit or open apps on it's own like it's alive and is now making the decisions around here. But it's been 3 years now and it still works at least, so I'm happy. Show details

Amazing TV – Amazing TV and have had no issues with quality, sound, picture and playback. Intuitive smart display and plays channel 7, 9, 10 and many more that other TVs don't. Sometimes there is a lag with online video streaming through YouTube but this is rare and hasn't happened since the last update  Show details

Unhappy Sony Customer – We have one as well and having the same problems Model KD 75X8500C, they should just replace it, its still in warranty. A lot of money for a TV which has been released onto the Market with not the proper testing, wish we stay with our Samsung. We want to wall mount the TV as well into a recess in our new TV room and with the reset faults this may be a major problem.  Show details

Extremely happy! – I have read lots of bad reviews about this TV, but it seems like only people with sets that have issues tend to post, so i thought I would balance it out. I have had this TV for half a year now and could not be more happy with it. The OS is great, I've got lots of apps on there, almost all work perfectly fine, some apps have issues, but thats the… Read more

developers trying to bring their apps to this platform. Even that has settled down now. Picture quality is excellent. Streaming 4K through Netflix is excellent! Really intuitive interface. For the first time, I am actually only using the simplified remote, don't need the other one once its all setup. Up scaling of the PS4 picture is fantastic as well. I would consider myself an intermediate to advanced user.

Horrible!!! Tv system is broken and very common – Picture quality is great. Fastish navigation, decent amount of inputs. Forced to have unwanted aps featured and displayed. Display is great no doubt...but the tv itself as a complete package...nightmare. It constantly freezes requiring a power off at the electrical switch. Tv becomes unusable, unresponsive, not even a display of any sort. Black… Read more

screen. This is on top of regular freezes that occur during operation.Nothing you do will bring it back to life other than cutting power to unit. You try doing that on a wall mounted 75 inch tv with powerpoint behind it.

Also the wifi xontinuously ceases to work and forgets the connection. This requires factory reset of the tv to get to work.

I do not recommend this tv at all.

Absolute best tv – I purchased a Sony Bravia XBR back in 2009 and still have it to this day. Sony even replaced the panel of this one and my second one I got second hand, out of warranty free of charge. So this made me like Sony. I went and purchased a Kogan 4k 65 inch TV and not only was this worse quality than my bravia from 7 years ago but despite being 4k it… Read more

would not play any 4 content. The apps would only play 720p at the highest and Kogan told me the smart tv is all 720p. Youtube would not offer 720p at its highest. Even my 960 graphics card on my computer was not able to push 4k content through to the 4k tv. When asking kogan they said to me that the 4k HDMI input must be out of order. They could not swap it due to not having anymore in stock. Appalling. While having this tv I realised that my Sony bravia was just a supreme picture over this new 4k 65 inch so I figured I would drop $4500 on a brand new 75 inch x8500c from Sony. Got a great cash deal at Harvey Norman while they were advertised on sale for $5700. Got it for $4500.

I have had lot now for half a year and the picture is amazing. No issues with black screens or lines or anything. It loads super fast, is never turned off at the wall and is just beautiful. I do wish I had waited and got the 9400 series just because I like to have the best of the best but so be it. The apps are excellent, though I wish there was more android apps from the normal platy store that could be forced through. The media streaming from computer is super fast with only a second or two buffering before it loads and that's it for buffering. Netflix 4k content is mind blowing. You literally watch shows you would not usually just to enjoy the 4k content. Sense 8 and that longmire show and house of cards is so special in 4k. Just mind blowing. I wish it had more content. You only need to stream 720p content from computer over wifi network because the tv does a great job at upscaling. At least it seems to me that way. I have connected it with the latest sony high end receiver and Dali speakers. It works so easily through each other. The layout of the controls and menus are great. Discovery mode and home button and netflix button, it is all just very user friendly. As a professional Skydiver who does alot of cinematography for blockbuster films I have always been a Sony fan due to their cameras we use for skydiving before gopros were excellent with stability in freefall. So as a sony fan one would think I would only talk sony up but the tv I have is in a different class. I turned to Samsung these recent years now I don't use their handycams and have samsung phones, tvs (spare rooms), Gear VR, just a major samsung fan so I do not really look at my tv now I have it and think wow, this is a sony, more wow this is an incredible experience. It is really beautiful. I wish I could share it with everyone. Actually what I really wish is that there was more 4k content but those looking at buying a tv I would say don't go get 4k because you think Australia will soon be 4k. You need to realise that 4k is all around the world but not here and even here 90% of content is still in 540p. There is not alot of full hd out there and by the time we get to full hd as a standard id bet America will be at 8k content and by the time Australia will jump to a new resolution out will probably go straight to 8j content. So don't rush into buying a 4k tv because you think it is the next big thing. Save your money and get a 1080p tv, but I will say that this tv does an incredible job at upscaling. I have read about upscaling before and thought I owned things that upscaled content and thought my kogan was 4k content, but when I turned this tv on I realised what 4k content really was and what upscalling should look like. I don't think its worth buying a 4k tv for anything less than 75 inches. Maybe 65 inch but if you are going for 4k, go straight to 75 inches. That is where you will really experience that wow factor. The prices are down to $4999 listed now so you should find the kdl75x8500c for around $3750 if you bounce around the stores and record conversations with your phone in your pocket between salesmen. Bing lee would not budge but harvey norman can make anything happen if you tell them jbhifi agreed. Not your fault they didn't have it in stock. Do NOT buy the x850c. Make sure you get the x8500c even though the box only says 850c, make sure tv says 8500c because the 850c 2014's model is rubbish versus this one. Go for the 9100c or 9400c if you can though for the awesome speakers and the amazing picture that is miles ahead of this. Though this picture is still incredible.

I know this is a long ramble but I figured I would write everything I could think of in hopes that someone out there might have one question out there they have no answers for and this ramble of a review might of just nailed that question on the head you are looking for. Before I got the sound system which is rather high end, but the speakers I'd call high end aren't really. They are only $1300 speakers, before I got them with the sony 7.2ch 165wx7 receiver I was pretty happy with the sound from the tv.

Oh, make sure you calibrate the tv picture. You can find a great calibration review for this tv on google but whatever you do make sure you calibrate your whites yourself. You can not copy another persons whites settings. The rest fine, but not the white. Spend the $300 to get a pro to do it or get the disc if you know how to yourself. You must calibrate this picture. Dam its a special tv. I understand why the haters hate. I went through 8 XBR models before I found one that was perfect but after that I was more relaxed on things like clouding in the blacks, mainly because they are online in the menu blacks and not actual pictures but I managed to relax over that stuff. Also out of the box it is a bit laggy but the new firmware update fixed that right up. So plug it straight into the tv.

Another great thing is the apps are current; like the 7plus app has my partners latest episode of home an away on straight away. Other smart tvs had to wait a day to get them or a few hours at least. This is instant. It flows through the apps so good too. The best app for streaming stuff from your desktop ios KODI. This will stream awesome content but it won't stream any 1080p torrents for some reason, only 720p but I probably have to find the right format.

Anyway good luck top you all and if you have a issue with your tv have them collect it straight away and bring with them a new one. The magic word to use is DEAD on ARRIVAL. Put it back in the box and they will simply deliver a new one and pick that one up without even looking at it. This is when you go through good guys or harvey norman. The truck guys are not tv experts, they are delivery and collection men. Those tvs you send back then get sold to a purchaser who has the contracts to buy all returned electronics from all the major stores and are then shipped overseas. The main stores don't care about swapping tvs. If you ring sony they might mess you about for a while, but to be honest, I've only had amazing instant customer service from sony, even out of warranty. Also don't ever buy an extended warranty. Instead google reasonable expectancy or read this link https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees/repair-replace-refund#-no-refund-signs-and-expired-warranties

Read where it says you are able to get a refund even after warranty expired.

Now if you really want to be safe, buy it on visa or mastercard because then visa and mastercard own your tv as their company purchased it and they will not let a store ever say it can't be returned after standard warranty. If your tv breaks down after 4 years and you paid $3000 for it, then you expect that tv to last ten years and they sold it to you at a price that a customer would expect to last ten years, so they are obligated to replace it and visa will enforce it on the retail store as a retail store does not want to lose their payment gateway. Do some research about your rights and your reasonable expectations. Extended warranties are for fools. Don't you wonder why sales staff get omissions for selling the things? Anyone that wants to argue these facts just do some research. You will find some great information like this.

For example, if consumers generally buy a television with a reasonable expectation for it to last five years, then they may have a statutory guarantee against the retailer that lasts substantially longer than the one year manufacturer's warranty.

If the TV is a more expensive brand, especially one that makes claims about its quality and durability, it will be held to a higher standard of quality and durability under the ACL than a home brand that is half the price and does not make similar claims.

Obviously, the law does not protect consumers if their attention was drawn to the fault before the sale (either by spoken words or by a written notice), or they inspected the goods and the fault should have been obvious in that inspection, or the consumer causes the fault through misuse.

Consumer help

Mr Samuel says the ACL guarantees mean consumers should not hesitate in taking a product back to the place they bought it if the good has a defect or failure that is unusual given its age, even if the warranty period has expired.

He says the ACCC or state departments of fair trading will help consumers if retailers refuse to honour their legal requirements.

"If we find that a retailer is not honouring the obligations imposed on the retailer under the consumer guarantee provisions of the Australia consumer law then the ACCC will take action to deal with those issues," Mr Samuel said.

Commercial law academics say the Australian Consumer Law largely makes extended warranties redundant, as consumers will often have legal protection against defects in the goods beyond the manufacturer's normal warranty anyway.

Many consumers are currently unaware of the law but from next year retailers will be required by regulations to display a notice that informs customers they have rights beyond any contractual rights included in a warranty.

Mr Samuel warns businesses that informing customers of their legal rights is in an area the ACCC will be strongly enforcing.

"One of the areas where the ACCC has taken prosecutorial action has been in circumstances where retailers are representing to consumers that they have more limited rights than are currently available under the law," he said.

"It's important we think for, first of all, there to be no misrepresentation as to the rights of consumers but, secondly, for consumers to be made aware of their rights so that they're not beguiled into believing or misled into believing, through even the lack of information, that their only right is that, for example, of the printed manufacturer's warranty."

some bugs but still a great TV – These models together with the 850c are part of Sony's first generation Android TV so expect them to have bugs. Some stuff going around about having black picture on HDMI and on free to air which come ok for a few days after unplugging the power for a few minutes. Hopefully Sony will bring out a patch for this sooner than later. All smart TVS seem… Read more

Overall if I was on the market for a smart Tv it will be a Sony. Mainly because of great customer service.. Ever tried to get parts for LG or Samsung... good luck. Panasonic? all their service goes through a company call Techworks/ Definetech... have fun dealing with them.

Pile of Junk – Do NOT buy Sony Bravia TV !!! I had the misfortune to buy an expensive ($5,000) 75 inch Sony Bravia. After just 3 days a big red line developed down the screen. In researching this on-line, we found it is a common problem. The TV had to go back, and then it took umpteen weeks to organise refund. Then we had to spend more time buying a… Read more
