It's still banging out great sound after 17 years and everyone wants to get one that comes around. Sony knew what they were doing back then. It requires the user to set it up properly, which most seem unable to do. Any muddy sounds are just a fool not getting the speaker polarity wire right.

Average sound – I grabbed one when they first came out looks are deceiving when there's a bit of damp weather around or humidity in the air the stupid thing keeps going into protection mode never waste my hard earned money on one of these ever again Show details

Good Entry Level Setup For Beginners – I recently bought this setup in 2022 second hand for 250 bucks after seeing how long my friends one held up (he had his since launch and had no issues but maybe he was just lucky), its not the best out there but its probably the best cheap plug and play 7.2 entry level setup you'll find without breaking the bank. Hard to find digital streaming… Read more

content that fully takes advantage of all the speakers, mostly always get downscaled to dts or dolby digital 5.1 if passing audia via HDMI ARC from a smart tv (which is the best option if you have a 4k screen) but thats a limitation of its older technology. Atmos music from Tidal plays great but again is downscaled to dolby digital 5.1, if you have the budget better to get something more modern as its technology is definitely showing its age

Very disappointing rubbish – After reading all the glossy sales brochures on this system I decided to buy one.. BIG MISTAKE.. Cheap bad sounding 2012 watt amp with no on screen features .Special plugs on speakers to connect to amp . Little sound adjustment to fine tune . Amp stopped working after a year and kept going into protect mode . A problem most of these seem to have… Read more

. 3 months in the repair shop I told them to throw it in the bin and bought a Yamaha amp.. Speakers sound OK when powered by a decent amp.. There is a reason Sony don't make these anymore..

Nice looking system, that sounds great – Good looking system, although requires a big lounge room. Doesn't have the loudness i would expect from a 2000 watt system. I have turned it up full volume, to find my old system was louder, but it still sounds good. The bass only goes up till around half way and then starts to disappear after that.  Show details

Love it – Had ours for a while now and not had one single problem. Very happy with it. Great quality. Good base! Very loud . Looks awesome. Comes with 9 speakers and generous on the wires. Clear music and lots of different base settings and awesome sub. Highly recommend. Will not disappoint.  Show details

Pretty good for the price – I cant fault this for the price. The sound is not the greatest but it is a mid level set up. The 7.2 sound works well and if you combine it with a decent display it completes a pretty good cinema set up. T play music is also does a good job. Overall I would recommend this if you are not willing to pay for high end performance.  Show details

Amazing - Absolutely Pumps – This stereo is worth every dollar, the sound is so Loud it shakes the whole house. We have thrashed the stereo pumping all kinds of music from heavy electronic to heavy metal and the sound is still so clear & crisp hasn't distorted at all. Great for watching movies on the surround sound feels like your at the cinema! Well worth the money. :)  Show details

Loving the sound! – Had this for 12 months now and love it! The kids love it for gaming and movie watching and I love it for music! It has awesome bass and is very loud! I got it on special at Harvey Norman and only paid half price for it. Only thing is it takes up heaps of room but we don't mind :)

Perfect Home Theatre on a budget – Great system if all you want is to make your home movie experience more immersive. They are by no means the best sound you can get but for a home theatre system of that price, they are the winners. For those of you who have a significantly bigger budget and want some truly incredible sound, try Duntech audio. They are a more refined speaker than JBL, Accusound, Klipsch etc.

Unbeatable "BANG FOR YOUR BUCKS" – Great system FOR THE PRICE ! Mine is a HT-M77 It has EVERYTHING you could want from Couch-Shaking Bass (created by stacking as many speakers + anything else heavy on top of the subwoofers..works great on a wooden floor*))( to crisp clear tones if you want to bother changing the system settings for every different song . However.. If you are a… Read more

whinging type that pays $1000 then complains about the sound quality....SPEND MORE MONEY!!

You get what you give in the end....

I had a "LINN" They are made in Scotland...$13,000 and all it did was play one CD at a time (optical digital output via Advanced bitstream chipset..no Tuner..and just a volume knob

Best sound ive ever heard at any distance from the spiked, granite based speakers.

But for a GRAND ?????? Mu Te Ki gotta be the best value for money

Looks are usually mistaken for true quality

Sony Muteki approx. 5 year old system – Where has this sound been all my life ,what an awesome system at a great price, the louder it is the better it sounds, movies just come out at you, music cd's come alive using all speakers Which can be adjusted through the remote,Tip- for really deeper base is to put at least one subwoofer to the left of your sitting blocking the speaker .… Read more

approximately 6 inches away from ,the difference in bass was extremely great.

You could say as I do ,I want to hear but I really WANT TO FEEL IT,The price was great to.I know there are newer models since this release, are they same?

Another great tip:on the remote select HDMI than sound output and choose tv & amp config, mute the tv volume and you will hear the sound from all speakers as long as you turn the rear speakers up,puts you right inside the film or music cd.

Awesome System – I have just purchased the Sony Muteki 7.2 HTM7 and I am stoked with it. It was very easy to set up and use. Watching movies is great, the kids are yet to try out gaming on it but I am not sure that will happen as they have their own big-screen tv for that lol. I found he music was loud and great sound quality.. I am very happy with this system… Read more

Not as good as it looks! – Purchased the sony Htm7 purely on what it looked like assuming with that amount of speakers this has got to sound great, also the salesman claimed it was the best he's ever heard. The sound quality is nothing amazing the two subs lack any punch, only good for movies & gaming but if your fussy with music sound quality like I am your probably not… Read more

going to be impressed especially with the amount of speakers it's boasting you'd expect a lot more. Looks great, good for movies. Average sound quality

System looks a mean mother!! – System looks great but I miss my old 4 speaker system whose peak wattage was probably a quarter of what this mother has to offer. This may have more overall power but certainly doesn't have the grunt of our old systems but time waits for no man. Certainly is value for money. grat price through Graysonline. Sony's operating instructions leave doubt that we've installed efficiently and there's nowhere to check?? Show reply

Great system - lots of volume and bass – Overall i love this system. I am not an audiophile I just love movies and games. And for this the sony system is perfect except for one little flaw: the centre speaker could have been a little better. Thats where most of the sound comes from in a movie.Twin woofers and a tweeter would sound better. But fo the money its great.I would recomend it to… Read more ·  1

HTM7 & HTDDW7500 – I have the last 2 models of the Sony Muteki's both systems are unreal! I crank my older model Muteki (not the latest) at least 5 days a weeks for at least 3-4 hours, all speakers still going strong! Had the older model for 2 years now, just purchased the new one to replace the older model for my home theatre system. For what you pay you can't beat… Read more

them! Why pay over a 1000 dollars when you can get a hell of a sound system for 800-900 dollars! Sony Muteki = Grouse! Drowns out whinging girlfriend & normally pushing them out the door when cranked to max! Going to need hearing aids in the near future

Great performance for the money! – I was hesitant in buying the HTM7 boxed set, but I'm glad I did. I was really put off by the negative reviews, but these individuals were comparing a $1000 system to >$5000 custom audiophile systems. Quite frankly the amount of speakers that you get for the money is insane, and the quality is not as bad as people have stated. Yes the faceplate's… Read more

of the speakers are plastic but I find it more visually appealing. The performance of the low end was surprisingly good, with little to no audible voices coming from the bass woofers. To sum it up, if you want a reliable system that is great for playing movies, games and music, this system will beat any system within its price range. If you want fidelity speakers and proud yourself to be an audiophile and have thousands of dollars to spend on speakers LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! Reliable and great to show off! I lost the remote, but that was my fault =D

Total Bang for Your Money – I earlier wanted yamaha 696 aub speaker set after reading not helpful reviews about this model. But boy, glad I changed my plans at last minute and bought HTM7.. Love the doof doof! – Fantastic product for the price. Scored it for $988 (usually $1299) from Harvey Norman. As previously said, took a little time to set up, but once that's done, wowza! The speakers aren't too large or too skinny so they fit perfectly. Loving the "m-turbo" bass option, for that extra kick of doof doof. Fits perfectly & looks expensive, without the… Read more

Absolutely great! – I have recently purchased this set and I have tried it with games, movies and music. I must admit that I am very impressed with the quality of sound and the way it delivers all the special sound effects! Fantasic Sound, a must buy – Purchased this product very recently. I have found it to be a breeze to setup and configure. It sounds fantastic once it is configured, great sound clarity and deep bass. Great system, very loud and clear – Fantastic system, took a little time to unpack and set up, but once done excellent sound from the radio, much better with a cd, then when I hooked the blu ray up with the HDMI cables etc, wow, perfectly clear, great bass from the 2 subs, you need to put on the anti slid rubber pieces put on them if on a tiled floor as they move a little.
