Hasn't skipped a beat since we've had it – This review is probably irrelevant now as you can no longer buy it, however I feel I should add my 2 cents. We've had this tv for 8 years and it's usually left on overnight due to our working hours (since 2017 at least anyway). The picture is still crisp and the sound is good. As for the "smart tv" side of things, Sony haven't updated anything in… Read more

regards to apps etc. It was a very early smart tv and naturally there could have been a lot of hiccups in those early developmental stages. I have added an Amazon Fire Tv Stick to it to turn it into a true smart tv and everything's just fine now. There are 4 HDMI ports which is plenty for what we want to use it for. Wifi connectivity is a breeze and rarely have had buffering problems. I'll be heartbroken when it eventually packs it in, whenever that may be. **Update December 2025** Over 11 years and still going strong. Have since hooked up the firestick to it and it's still as good as the day we bought it. I'm not expecting anyone to read this nowdays but I'd like to give credit when credit is due.

Short life – Sony Bravia KDL59W700B. Worked okay until it gave up the ghost yesterday after only 6 years. When against the wall it was impossible to connect other devices to....and only about 3 ports in any case. No separate on/off switch. Bright yellow screen and no sound. Highly disappointed in it's life span considering the price we purchased it for. Totally fed up over this built in obsolescence nonsense so won't be buying a Sony again. Show details

For a smart tv its not very clever – WE bought the tv in Dec of 2014, so far we have not had a problem that was not able to be solved by ringing Sony in Australia, later we bought the Home theatre system to match (Sony BDV-E2100), as it seemed that any other theatre system we bought was not compatible, had l known this l may not have bought it, setting it up took many days wasted… Read more

time, and it really is not a smart tv, there is no internal storage, you cannot record and watch another program, and again if l had known this l would not have bought it.

I've had a year. Bought low price as it was store model in a Best Buy. Great, flawless – I know this review is late. I only want to help anyone who might be looking into buying this used. As the title says I bought it at a low price with Best Buy removing it to replace it with the current model. The only problems I have had with it were self-inflicted when pressing the wrong button on a setup menu. Sooner or later always figured… Read more

out. Nothing has broken or stopped working. The picture is as great as the day I got it. Actually, it is a better picture since cutting the cord and only using internet for my source. Netflix, Amazon, Pluto, Veo all give much clearer picture than the newest equipment from Comcast.

TV only lasted for 1 year and then EXPLODED! KDL50W700B – I bought this TV in Dec 2014. About a year and a few months later, whilst I was watching the TV, a loud sound came out from inside the TV and the screen went black. That was the end of it, it never turned on again. I called the customer service number, but they were useless and could not do anything because the warranty was for only 1 year. I… Read more

would have not expected this from a "prestigious" brand as Sony advertise themselves. I actually chose Sony thinking I was buying a top quality product. Very disappointed with the product and customer service. Luckily the TV did not catch on fire and cause any serious damages.

Packed in after less than 2 months - 4 months later I am still waiting for Sony to pick it up!!! – TV looks great (while off), and was fine for about 6 or so weeks. Since then (late Feb) it has failed to work. Stuck on one channel, can'y load up any EPG, keeps switching itself on and off. Sony suggested 'switching the internet on and off' which is not the best customer support. I have spent the last 3 months and countless emails and phonecalls… Read more

chasing them up and still they haven't sent out a technician or replaced the set. Disgraceful customer service. I won't tell you not to buy a Bravia (I have been forced back to my 6 years old model which works fine!), but be warned if you get a lemon product from Sony as it will never be fixed!

Love the TV, but can't wall mount it! – I bought this TV at best buy along with a sound bar and the necessary hardware to mount both over my fireplace able to pivot it a bit to the left or right depending on viewing needs. I set everything up and luckily before I drilled holes in my wall I walked through the installation instructions only to realize that the TV only has two back… Read more

mounting points. I called SANUS (the maker of the wall mount) and they confirmed that they don't even make a compatible fixture for this.

So, I give it a '4' rating because of that. I love the TV and have it sitting on a stand on the *very basic* stand that comes with the unit. Nice picture, nice "smart" features, etc... Just can't put it where I want it.

Very Nice TV – I am very impressed with the picture quality of this TV, the colors are great and the image very sharp. The HDMI control for a stereo works perfectly with my LG home cinema allowing me to control both the TV and the Home theatre system easily with the one remote without any of the usual issues I have had in the past with setting up universal… Read more

remotes.

The wall mount solution that was included was not so easy, requiring two attachment points approx 30 cm apart on the wall. This distance and no options for variation means that it is extremely unlikely to be able to attach the mounting brackets to wall studs and is likely to require some sort of wall reinforcing. Also the stand when wall mounted has quite a bit of flex in it and only attaches to the TV at two points. It would have been better to have the four normal attachment points for a generic wall mount.

The USB recording appears to be fairly basic time based recording and does not appear to do series link with freeview, my panasonic HDD recorder is much easier to use.

Nice picture, nice features, good price but terrible stand – Purchased about a week ago from Catch of the day for a really good price. TV so far after a few days of use seems really good. Nice picture, all the smart features, but I think they have designed it to hang on a wall and designed a very ordinary stand. I actually had to chock the back of the stand with some cardboard as the tv had a lean backwards on it......... Not really happy about the stand, as it is also very shaky.

SONY 50" (127cm) Full HD Smart LED TV KDL50W700B – After having a 51 inch Samsung fail me after only 2.5 years of light use I decided to go up market with a Sony Bravia 50 inch smart TV, and I must say I am very impressed with the LED picture, way better than the washed out picture of the Samsung plasma. I got it at a great price from Dick smiths online store, very happy. December 13th 2017… Read more

Update: Died just over 3 years old

5 weeks past 3 years of hardly any use, this TV had a major failure, the panel is dead. Sony has wiped their hands and won't repair or replace the panel as per Australian consumer law. This high priced item should have lasted at least 5 years. I will never buy a Sony again I will stick to the cheaper brands with 3-year warranty thank you Sony for helping me open my eyes.

New update: Sony has now come to the party after my persistence over the past couple of days, and have agreed to replace the faulty panel, but not cover the labor cost. I'm happy to pay that labor cost. Thanks Sony to seeing reason. Let's hope you won't give any other consumers with Bravia TV,s out there a hard time with a major failure.

Not the quality we expected from Sony – We purchased our TV 7 Sept'14. We have it wall mounted which was quite easy to do. The picture quality is great unfortunately the sound is disappointing no matter how many time you adjust the equalizer and sound settings, you always end up with either a deep or high pitched audio. The response time eg, changing channels, viewing the guide,… Read more

selecting USB, in general all options on the Sony is unbelievably slow. I definitely would not purchase another Sony TV nor would I recommend a Sony TV (model W700B) to anyone. Extremely disappointed with the performance of such a well known and respected brand. Without doubt the picture quality is excellent. Sound and response time to all options
