But the real kicker was Sony's customer service and their utter lack of regards to the Australian Consumer laws. I reached out to Sony's customer care and they asked me to follow a series of simple trouble shooting steps, which I'd already done after googling the problem. It didn't work and they suggested "Since we have exhausted all the available troubleshooting steps for your TV's issue, I would like to offer you our trade-in option". It was only around $200 discount on a new model.
I was even considering that but then it occurred to me that they're not complying with basic ACCC guidelines. I spoke to a few mates and did looked up resources on ACCC and Sony are likely in breach of Australian Consumer laws in this case. So I reached out to them again and politely let them know that I was going to pursue this with ACCC. This was their response "We understand and respect your decision to file a complaint to ACCC.". It shows how much they care about the average Australian consumer.
But then a couple of days later, one of their "customer service" agents reached out to me in a separate email offering better discount again on one of their 65 inch models. But they didn't hesitate to let me know this, "Based off the age and usage, I don't believe it's reasonable to cover a repair for the TV.". WOW!!
So, Sony believe that it's unreasonable to repair a TV that's a bit over 4 year old. Not just that but their customer service responded, stating that it'd be difficult to procure the parts required for the repair because of the "age" of the product. And it wouldn't be economical to repair. Economical to who? They're just blatantly disregarding the ACCC laws.
They definitely believe that it's unreasonable for I (the consumer) to expect a TV to last a bit more than 5 to 7 years. Based on their offer, I'd have to pay another $1049.3 to buy a TV, again from Sony and probably have similar expectations? If this new TV stops working for some reason again in the next couple of years, I'll just keep paying a few thousand dollars to have the privilege?
I've spoken to several friends of mine and asked around on the Internet forums. Heaps people with much cheaper tvs have been enjoying trouble free entertainment for nearly a decade. A lot of those brands cost nearly half of what Sony's products cost. While I looked up the product on this website I found a few reviews with similar issues as mine. Yet I'm in this shit because I thought I'd chosen a superior product. This is a cautionary message to anyone about to buy Sony products. Please don't!
4 years old and it's broken – We bought this tv in April 2018, May 2022 and the tv is totally not working. emailed Sony Australia multiple times and the situation is still not resolved as they have insisted for us to trade in the old tv bit did not state the value of the trade which seem dodgy as they wanted us to deal with another department. Sony had stated that the parts is either difficult to obtained or they do not have the parts anymore.
We are still awaiting the outcome and a 4 year old tv should not break down to the extend that no replacement or repair is available.
Good at first but low quality – I have this T.V. and it is just over 4 years old now. Was very happy with it until recently. The screen has blue blotchy areas all through it. working perfectly. My cheapo Vivo T.V. is 15 years old and functioning better than this Sony. The problem with reading reviews is they are almost always written soon after purchase and it only reflects the quality of a new item. After 4 years this product has reflected it's true quality and it isn't good. I wonder how many of the original posters are still happy with their units.
Love this TV!!! – Love our huge TV! Great picture quality and size. Its a very smart TV and my favourite function is that the remote has a youtube and netflix button so I can easily access these two things! Its epecially handy to be able to find my daughter new cartoons on demand etc. Show details

Best TV – So happy with our Sony TV. The quality of the image is excellent and the apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Stan, KODI) that are available are so varied. I love having a smart TV and google play that we can easily watch movies on. Will definitely buy another Sony TV in the future. Show details
Worth buying – Got this for just under $2k which is a bargain. Worthy of buying for under a grand, can do HDR games and stream 4K video well – This is not a long term review as I've only had it (the 60" version) a few months but as I've been behind the times (gave up TV for a while and bought a cheap 32" in 2014) it is a big leap into today's technology. better at streaming than a laptop). The only niggle is that I can't cast to the TV from an android phone for some reason (I recently updated the TV software so maybe I could try again) while my Blu-Ray player, despite being older, will let me cast YouTube clips to it.
PS4 games look very good but I had to rely on an internet (non-Sony) guide to work out how to turn on the HDMI enhanced mode (ports 2 & 3) so it could receive both 4K and HDR graphics. Otherwise it defaults to 1080p resolution when HDR is on. According to the PS4 the RGB colour format could not be enabled, but hopefully the YUV colour mode does a good enough job.
I don't use the internal speakers on TVs, I am running sound from the headphone jack to a stereo. For internal speakers these aren't too bad though. Netflix works fine also. Whatever hardware is in the TV it is up to the job of today's requirements despite being a more basic non-Android smart TV.
I got it from The Good Guys for $950 (eBay Click & Collect) but at that price they sold out quickly. I hadn't even planned to buy this TV but at the price it has proved to be a satisfactory purchase, I'm sure the Hisense 55N7 I was keeping an eye on would have been good also but the bigger screen size does make a difference. I saw a 55X7000 and it looked a little small in comparison. It dwarfs the 32" it replaced and now that I am used to the gigantic size and the sheer resolution (on PS4) anything less does not cut the mustard.
The pixels are RGB rather than RGBW as cheap LG and Bauhn TVs are reported to have, so graphics look good on these. All in all a good purchase and very worthy of snapping up for just under a grand.

speakers as using an AVR - however the built-in speakers are actually pretty decent - easily better than our old tv. 3 HDMI might not be enough for some - but paired with an AVR you won't go wrong.
The apps we've used (Netflix, SBS, Youtube) have all worked well. As this is our first smart tv I am inexperienced as to our expectations on this front and I wonder if the apps will become outdated in the short/medium/long term - however I bought this expecting to use it with a chromecast so more than happy at present.

Big TV, poor backlighting. I purchased the TV as an upgrade to my 8 year ($996) old LG 60” plasma television (which I still have and use). I've learned that the passage of time does not necessarily mean product improvement, at least not in this case. Sure the TV is 15% larger, 30% more energy efficient, and has UHD resolution (which in reality you do not have many opportunities to exploit with Australian content and internet speeds), but I’m a bit disappointed at the level of light that bleeds through the panel and the inconsistent way that it does this. My 8 year old LG does have less black ‘blacks’ but it is at least evenly distributed. The Sony looks like there are clouds in the background. The inverse problem is also noticeable when you have the screen fully white – there are darker areas of white.
I suppose that $2000 is a decent price for such a large television, but contrary to these other reviews, please be aware that this TV is really only good for watching sports or other things that don’t have dark scenes. The issue is that light leaks through the LCD panel, leaving you with an obvious clouding effect in dark scenes. This is particularly noticeable at night time in a dark room, with dark scenes, or when the screen is fully white. This is a budget TV so don’t expect a premium experience.
*** Update - a small insect has made its way in between the LED panel and the outer clear layer on the screen. There is no way of removing it. I've never seen this on a TV or computer monitor before. I've spoken with Sony, and (of course) it's NOT covered under warranty.
I since received a voucher from Sony saying "since repair may cost as much as a new television, we would like to offer you an exclusive 40% discount for your purchase on a new unit."
The only 70" TV in their range now is about $4000. So I can trade my 11 month old TV in, pay $2100 and quite possibly have another bad TV with a useless warranty.
Really disappointed with my purchase. I will never buy another Sony product again.

My advice, buy a Samsung or LG, I am going to.
Great family TV – All great... picture, sound, smarts! Good viewing angles of photography quality imagery. Have the PS4 pro, Apple TV4K, server, etc hooked up through it and they're all seamless. Love the Netflix and Youtube functions on the remote. TV apps all good. The inbuilt speakers are more than adequate for good movie reproduction and for me to hear the news above a noisy tribe! Huge TV and Bang for Buck! – This is a HUGE 4k TV and probably the best value for money out there at the moment. I got mine by price matching at Harvey Norman, and beware the salesmen try to up sell to a more expensive TV because they aren't making much margins on these. Nonetheless, satisfied with the 60HZ monitor refresh rate (as TV in Australia is much lower anyway) and the resolution is epic! Highly recommend! Show details
