Ssangyong Musso ultimate 2019 Vibration/shuuder
Brought my musso 2019 first ownerVery good Ute. Very happy with the car
Only fault I found is vibration. Or shudder at 80kms. Complaint to dealer they checked answer I got is (normal) which I don't believe.
Not enough accessories for the Ute which is downfall. U r limited compared other Ute's.
They should change lap seat belt propper current seat belt. Other than that musso is great.
Coming off Nissan. Navar 2009 Show details
Comfortable ute let down by some annoying features
Love it for its comfort and build quality, but the factory fitted tow bar and ridiculously soft rear springs mean that it's useless as a work and towing vehicle without a suspension upgrade. Show detailsA lot packed into this Package
Plenty of power and torque, even towing a 19.6 caravan, comfortable as well. Show detailsGreat, besides the vibration!
Like a few others, I bought the Ute that vibrates however only at takeoff. The 80km/h seems ok. 60,000km 4yr later and I finally get told it’s normal, that Ssangyong knows about it. I emailed them myself, I know they know. I was told to put weight in the back, idiots. I had the diff pinion angle changed, and weeks at a time in the service Center. I video the diff at takeoff and it appears it might be further up like the Center bearing. Maybe a redesign bearing casing Ssangyong and recall. More videos to prove this theory. Also, going up a sli... Read more
ght incline at 80m/h cruse control, the transmission gets confused. Up/down/up/down Otherwise I love the Ute. Features, ride, comfort, power and economy. PEAK 4x4 have some nice upgrades and brakes too.Value for money and actually good quality
I've had my Musso ELX LWB for a year now and have travelled 26,000km in it without any dramas. And after having a 2014 Musso for 8 years and 200,000 worry free KMs before this vehicle, I wouldn't expect anything less. Unlike Chinese brands, Ssangyongs in conjunction with Mercedes Benz were pioneers of common rail and dpf technology. Because of this connection, Ssangyongs genuinely provide the best of both worlds - European innovation that's been perfected with Asian know how and all at a price that really makes you ask, why major name brands are so much more expensive. Show detailsCaution: Buyer Beware - Vibration Issue at 80kms/hour
Brought the vehicle from the first owner. Vehicle still has 2 year of the ‘UNLIMITED WARRANTY remaining and has been serviced at SsangYong dealerships, so thought all good. Test drove the vehicle around suburbia and didn’t get above 60kms/hr and was impressed with vehicle and decided to purchase it. First time I got the vehicle up to 80kms/hr the vibration from the rear end kicked in. Thought it was likely a tyre balance issue but the issue remained after having had the tyres balanced. Tried different tyre pressures but no luck there either.... Read more
Like some of the other unlucky reviewers, I’m now stuck with a lemon of a vehicle and SsangYong basically will not accept it’s a manufacturer defect which they should fix or replace the vehicle. Found on FB many fellow unlucky owners suffering the exact same vibration issue with their Musso and also the current model Rexton. SsangYong and it’s parent company, KG Mobility need to step up, own it and do something to solve the vibration issue that some Musso owners are experiencing. Build brand integrity and demonstrate a commitment to quality assurance and engender loyalty with owners across the board. Two things are really annoying in respect to this matter, (1) the vibration issue with the vehicle (2) apart said vibration it’s an otherwise solid, comfortable vehicle that handles, brakes well with a decent reliable engine, so it’s super annoying that an otherwise good vehicle is let down by one defect, albeit a significant one. Come on SsangYong KG mobility do the right thing. Think twice before buying a SsangYong Musso.Best ute I've owned
Purchased a SWB ultimate in March after selling my GLS Triton back to the dealer for more than I paid for it in 2020. In the past ten years I've owned a Wildtrak, LTZ Colorado and the GLS Triton and this is the best ride I've owned as far as utes go. My wife drives a near new GLC 200 Merc and prefers to drive this. Just waiting for the Ironman bullbar and we're off but 10000km in can't fault it. Show detailsBought a lemon... and looks like others have too
Bought our Musso a couple of months ago. Loved many of it's features but not the bad vibration it came with . To be clear, this is not the typical ute vibration, which an independent report substantiates. Went straight back to the dealership, who tried a couple of things but weren't interested and said to go to the manufacturer. In the meantime to our dismay we found four Facebook Musso Owners groups, two of them about this issue. Seems that some vehicles get better with a tyre change or wheel balancing etc, for others there is no conclusive... Read more answer, like in our instance. Now, there are indeed many Musso owners with no problems which is great. Although you'll find some are dismissive of the issue and can get pretty defensive (I can only imagine the responses to this review.). For affected owners, they're trying every fix they can and senior mechanics have agreed there IS a problem. But Ssangyong's standard response (if you get one) is that it's normal for this type of vehicle and will lessen with weight in the tray (which people have tried - no difference). Australian Consumer Law can only be enforced with a costly court case... My suggestion is if you're in the market to buy a Musso, it is indeed a great option for the price range, but search the FB groups about the vibration and shudder yourself before committing to a purchase. While it may be the minority of vehicles, if you end up with this issue you're screwed. So much as we love many things about the Musso, it's a 1 star from us because we are now stuck with a lemon, and the post sales customer service from Ssangyong is appalling.Good car ruined by dreadful customer support
I have owned the Musso Ultimate for 6 months and recently it had its first 15k km service. The car has been great, comfortable , reliable and I felt secure with the long warranty backing it all up. When I picked the car up I discovered the dealer had broken the spare wheel winch. I was told it was my fault as I’d rewound the cable without a wheel attached. They stuck to their guns and refused to fix this and when I approached Ssangyong directly they backed up the dealer. It’s not an expensive fix and I’ll do it myself however it’s turned me rig... Read moreht off the brand. Firstly they have designed a component which apparently you can break simply by using it. There are no warnings or guidelines. Secondly does this bode well for any other parts that break? Is the warranty not worth the paper it’s written on? If the dealer tells Ssangyong it’s not a warranty fix then Ssangyong just give them a nod and you’re left with a piece of expensive junk. I’ll get another year out of the car but I will be selling as it as I don’t now have any faith in the business. Not the way to rebuild their brand.Musso XLV Manual 6 speed review
Great Ute cabin size excellent, manual 6 speed drives well big tub ideal size. Good ride 7.9 L per 100 too good for what i need currently travelled 6000 Km.Driven D.Max & Mazda BT50 not as good as Musso great Ute. Blokes at work very impressed even 2017 Ford Wildtrak owner.
Only issue Infotainment screen freeze, volume issues reboots randomly still working ok, Bluetooth failed within first week, Dealer will replace within the next 2 weeks. Show details
Pleasantly Surprised
Drives quietly, steers well, rides well. Ours is the leaf sprung LWB version, No suspension mods.Transmission operates well. Gearing 5th and 6th appear set for motorway speeds as at 100 kph it may hunt on gentle rises, once at 110kph that goes away. Not a powerhouse, but very ample and cruises well.
Time will tell re reliability, first 3000km no problems. The media unit works well enough, but the screen is poorly situated re ambient light reflections. Show details
Best value dual cab ute on the market
Bought a manual ELX Musso a month ago, and it has to be the best bang for buck ute out there. Very quiet interior, spacious cabin. The clutch is a little light for a ute, but the gearbox is nice to shift with. Stalled it a few times the first week. The tub is quite deep, and the factory soft tonneau cover fits nice and snug. The only gripe I have would be the slightly harsh ride despite the Ironman shocks+suspension upgrade. Not as refined as a Hilux in ride quality, but it’s $30k cheaper! Show detailsGreat Value for money
Was very impressed with the demo Musso car I drove at the dealer especially with the low noise level, had a look underneath and the car had some rubber coating which I assumed was standard, however it wasn't. So noise level is acceptable. Car drives well however I carry a constant load and have replaced the suspension to suit, also the shock absorbers on the front were not adequate and on rough road surfaces the front seemed to shudder before the shocky got control again. Iron Man suspension has cured both problems although I may also add Air b... Read moreags as well, this was a cost I did expect to make however would have been nice to get it as an option at time of purchase. Transmission is excellent, motor pulls well and gets just under 10 litres on the open road. Haven't been fully off road so not sure how it will perform, mine is the longer tray model and does have a fair amount behind the rear axle, so expect some damage there. Tray does not seal so expect dust and exhaust gas ingress if you have a canopy and wish to carry animals or sensitive equipment you may want to be aware of that. Interior is fairly nice just a few cons; Seat doesn't have memory settings, sunroof interior shade hard to open, stereo not particularly loud and the bottom of the accelerator pedal is sharp and I cut my toe getting out, file sorted that out. Not a fan of 15,000km servicing schedule but it has a 7 year warranty so we shall see how it goes. Would I buy another one? Absolutely.Good Honest Ute, Great Value
Had ute's all my working life and this is the best yet. Its a really comfortable cab and an easy drive to cover some long distances and a surprisingly stable tow platform.I recently picked up a 2 ton diesel engine from Wellington NZ and towed it north 800km, while you knew it was there was no problem towing it , very smooth and easy to keep up your momentum .
Going down with the empty 480kg tandem trailer we used 10.4 liter per 100km on the way back it went up to 12.4 liter per 100km.
There's plenty of good hills on that trip. Tip, I found ... Read more
if you select the power drive mode while towing the auto gearbox would hold the gears longer allowing the engine to rev freely and easily keep up your momentum. With any of these current ute's I wouldn't tow any more than 2.5 ton with a braked trailer, especially in hilly country. I bought the base model and added a towbar, canopy and Ironman springs. for a $45k NZ [Saved me $20k at least on a big brand vehicle] I don't do much off road ,But they seem quite capable in moderate conditions. Their Family friendly to with heaps of room in the back seat for the kids to spread out and air vents and very quite cabin underway. These vehicles use some good proven enginnering , might not be cutting edge but usually reliable. Take one for a drive do your own review see if its fit for YOUR purpose.Questions & Answers
My 2023 with 22k/ Km has an issue with the rebound control of the front shock absorbers on minor irregularities on sealed roads in regional Victoria. You can feel the front wheels continue to bounce ( oscillating) 5 or 6 times and shudder through the chassis. The rear suspension appears fine.
Hi just wondering why my 2021 musso looses power when towing a van, it happens about 2 to 3 hours into the journey. If I pull over and stop it comes good them it happens again put a transmissioncooleron but it still happens. .
I've had my Musso for 12 months now and as I flick through the various display pages on the dash, sometimes you get a compass displayed and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to have a mind of it's own and doesn't seem to correspond to whether my Android Auto is active or not. My dealer is also nonplussed by it and wasn't even aware it had a compass display. Luckily, it chose to display itself at it's last service.....only to disappear the next time I went for a drive. Any ideas?

Hi
I had the same question....before you start your Musso turn it on and wait till the head unit is completely on....then start and compass will be there every time
Thanks Dan for the heads-up. Tried as you suggested but still no compass. HOWEVER, I stopped the engine and restarted it immediately and hey presto....the compass appears!! I'll keep persevering with your suggestion though. Cheers Muddy
