i would have given 5 stars to the vehicle, but the dealer experience is very ordinary. maybe its the same with the dealers of most brands now a days. my musso is 2023 ( was built in nov 2022). its going good so far. not a single issue. nearly 27k kms on the odometer. its the perfect touring vehicle for me. very comfortable on long drives. good for occassional offroading. Musso XLV Manual 6 speed review – Great Ute cabin size excellent, manual 6 speed drives well big tub ideal size. Good ride 7.9 L per 100 too good for what i need currently travelled 6000 Km. Driven D.Max & Mazda BT50 not as good as Musso great Ute. Blokes at work very impressed even 2017 Ford Wildtrak owner. Only issue Infotainment screen freeze, volume issues reboots randomly still working ok, Bluetooth failed within first week, Dealer will replace within the next 2 weeks. Show details
Pleasantly Surprised – Drives quietly, steers well, rides well. Ours is the leaf sprung LWB version, No suspension mods. Transmission operates well. Gearing 5th and 6th appear set for motorway speeds as at 100 kph it may hunt on gentle rises, once at 110kph that goes away. Not a powerhouse, but very ample and cruises well. Time will tell re reliability, first 45000km… Read more
no problems. The media unit works well enough, but the screen is poorly situated re ambient light reflections.
Best value dual cab ute on the market – Bought a manual ELX Musso a month ago, and it has to be the best bang for buck ute out there. Very quiet interior, spacious cabin. The clutch is a little light for a ute, but the gearbox is nice to shift with. Stalled it a few times the first week. The tub is quite deep, and the factory soft tonneau cover fits nice and snug. The only gripe I have… Read more
would be the slightly harsh ride despite the Ironman shocks+suspension upgrade. Not as refined as a Hilux in ride quality, but it’s $30k cheaper!
Quality, reliable and an absolute steal for the money – New ute for trade work. Will do about 60,000klm a year. Cars is only new but have not been able to fault. Engine super smooth and manual gearbox shifts wonderfully. Show details
Ssangyong Musso 2019 Towing – 1400km Musso towing experience. Our wildflower tour was a great opportunity to test the towing behaviour of our new Musso. One third of the trip went through a montaineuos topography with many steep climbs and descents. The same section also had many sharp turns and bends. The second section included driving in town streets, small country and… Read more
also gravel roads and the last section was a stretch of approximately 200 km freeway. 1. Low speed maneuvering and suburban driving. ***** This category of driving is where the Musso performs at it's best. It moves to load around easily and effortless. Getting moving from intersections and traffic lights are prompt and responsive and it feels like you're not towing anything. 2. Handling turns and bends ***** Turning with the Musso with a 1.8 Ton load either around sharp turns or at high speed feels safe. Both vehicle and caravan sit firm on the road, even at sudden movements. 3. Climbing and descenting *** Going up the steep and long climbs (like the one east Midland going to Mundaring) caused some challenges to the Musso. To keep up the speed of 80km/h was possible but required almost full throttle and 3rd gear. This could be an interesting exercise with a 3.5 Ton load. Down hill the Musso had no difficulties to control the load. Continuous towing in mountainous topographies may put excessive strain on engine and gearbox. ???? 4. Highways**** This is a good experience with the Musso. It sits on 90km/h with no problems even if you need to overtake a slower moving track is something the the car can do relatively quick.
All in all the Musso is a comfortable towing unit. With larger loads it might struggle with the 2.2ltr turbo diesel especially in the hills or when driving against strong head winds. For the 1.8T caravan I am fairly on the money with the Musso.
Fuel consumption with the setup shown on the picture is at its best on a flat road with no headwind sitting at 80km/h in 5th gear can be as low as 12.5 ltr/100km. If you go 90km/h with some headwind the consumption increases to 16ltr/100km. 18 to 20 ltr/100km for hill runs and strong head winds can be common. For my trip of 1500km I used around 210 ltrs. This works out about 15ltr/100km average at an average speed of 90km/h. Without towing I managed am average fuel consumption between 8-10 ltr.

Good Honest Ute, Great Value – Had ute's all my working life and this is the best yet. Its a really comfortable cab and an easy drive to cover some long distances and a surprisingly stable tow platform. I recently picked up a 2 ton diesel engine from Wellington NZ and towed it north 800km, while you knew it was there was no problem towing it , very smooth and easy to keep up… Read more
your momentum . Going down with the empty 480kg tandem trailer we used 10.4 liter per 100km on the way back it went up to 12.4 liter per 100km.
There's plenty of good hills on that trip. Tip, I found if you select the power drive mode while towing the auto gearbox would hold the gears longer allowing the engine to rev freely and easily keep up your momentum. With any of these current ute's I wouldn't tow any more than 2.5 ton with a braked trailer, especially in hilly country. I bought the base model and added a towbar, canopy and Ironman springs. for a $45k NZ [Saved me $20k at least on a big brand vehicle] I don't do much off road ,But they seem quite capable in moderate conditions.
Their Family friendly to with heaps of room in the back seat for the kids to spread out and air vents and very quite cabin underway. These vehicles use some good proven enginnering , might not be cutting edge but usually reliable. Take one for a drive do your own review see if its fit for YOUR purpose.
The ideal ute for Australia, perfect for us – We had a good look at many different utes to replace our 10 year old Nissan X-Trail. We were shocked seeing prices for some very basic utes and we were even more shocked seeing what is being asked for second hand utes. We are travelling a lot across Australia and we need something which will allow us to travel on inland dirt roads. We are not… Read more
driving rough "off road " unless it is a small distance to a nice camping spot. We had seen too many vehicles driving through salt water or pulling overloaded caravan up steep hills. This made us stay clear away from the second hand market. We did look at various reviews, technical tests from around the world and we compared technical specifications of various utes on the market. A very important factor was "affordability". After looking at all the factors important to us, the SsangYong Musso ELX was the clear favorite for us. We have had the vehicle now only for a week and we are very impressed. The Musso is very roomy, very quit and gives us great driving comfort. In regards to the purchasing cost, fuel economy, servicing cost, insurance costs and 7 year unlimited warranty provides us with a vehicle which will save us tens thousands of dollars over the next decade.
Best value for money an reliabilty – Hi guys, just a post regarding my experience with our new musso 15000kms..i use my vehicle on a daily basis work an pleasure. corrugated an rough roads, the musso handled the trip well, a little bumpy but overall manageable. No issues with towing sat on 100 kmph most of the trip..pretty impressed on fuel economy which I have to calculate.. then gave it a workout on some of the soft sandy beaches, it handled itself well, although travelling through well used ruts did cause some problems, due to the clearance of the vehicle. I only have the factory standard tyres an no lift kit. Still impressed for value an performance..have no video footage of 4wd but I thought I would share some photos of the musso, me an the kangaroos fishing at lucky Bay esperance.
Just checked the fuel economy mileage 714 km 98 litres of diesel. 7.28km per litre this is a rough estimate.

Service cost misrepresentation – WARNING.. love the vehicle but don’t be fooled by the salesperson’s representation of a 7year $370 a year fixed servicing cost. That is totally untrue as Ssangyong have now changed their service costs as of October 2024. Just got quoted $1068 for a 30,000 klm service plus any additional requirements. Warranty is also subject to the kilometres travelled and how the car is maintained Very disappointed with Ssangyong Corporation
Dissatisfied disappointed – Musso had an engine light on when I picked up the Ute and this then required me to have the Ute picked up on a flat bed and returned to dealer also a speaker not working. Complaint re canopy for my Musso ELX – My beef is that when I ordered my Musso ELX in February Iincluded a canopy in the deal...I was told it would be ready on 14th Feb. As I took my vehicle in for the first service 1500km [free ] I expected the canopy..then told it would be fitted after an 8 week delay from Korea...when contacted was told wrong colour...getting it fitted 31st August...7mnths after purchase...very disappointing SsangYong... A refined good value for money car – I have put 20000km on my 2022 Musso now and it has been great. Pros - The motor is very refined and the cabin very quiet, the seats are comfortable. Cons - The infotainment system isn't the greatest, the handsfree microphone is poor and the audio sound isn't amazing. The lane keeping warning is not well calibrated. clearance and tyres need upgrading. It's a very likeable car and I recommend it. It's great value for money.
Value for money and actually good quality – I've had my Musso ELX LWB for a year now and have travelled 26,000km in it without any dramas. And after having a 2014 Musso for 8 years and 200,000 worry free KMs before this vehicle, I wouldn't expect anything less. this connection, Ssangyongs genuinely provide the best of both worlds - European innovation that's been perfected with Asian know how and all at a price that really makes you ask, why major name brands are so much more expensive.
Unbeatable value – I have owned our musso for 2 years and have done moderate kilometres. I have been very happy with the vehicle with no major faults to report. The car is comfortable, fuel efficient and has superb finish quality. but after around 10000kms and having put some heavy loads in the back the suspension has settled. There is not another Ute on the market that can beat the value of the Musso. The 7 year commercial and domestic use warranty is what sold me.
Best car for the money! – If you want a 4x4 in auto with a 7 year warranty, this is the one. I was sceptical at first, being Korean made. However when my mechanic told me they have been around for 20 years and are pretty reliable I took one for a test drive. To say I'm astounded in a understatement, has the build quality of a European vehicle, and drives excellent.I purchased the ELX and cannot fault it,you can't or won't beat this vehicle for the price. Surprisingly Good – Thought I was out of my price range for dual cab 4WD until I heard about Musso. But then I thought quality maybe compromised. Good bloody car full stop – My 2021 Elx Musso is arguably in my mind the best car i have ever bought and owned .I have had 33 cars in my life and driven them all over the world.I use my Musso for work, pleasure and towing my 20 ft Caravan. It is quiet (you can have a chat in the cab) smooth thro the gearbox and a very efficent tow vehicle. The finish is 1st class and has a very high spec.As i said before,"Good bloody car full stop". awsome vehicle great value – Westpoint Auto Sales person Sara Savic provided great service. So much so that I purchased the vehicle from her in Queensland because I could not get the same service in NSW . The vehicle is everything that she said and delivered early as well. Show details · 1
Brilliant in all aspects. Cant fault it – Extremely econimical getting down to 6.6 l/100 highway driving and 15/100 towing 23ft caravan. Did have to change springs and shocks and added airbags for better towing and ground clearance, but thats it. Done 80k on the clock and have not had any issues. Show details

Do not buy – I've had nothing but issues with my 2021 Musso, engine blew up at 7000km and now ive loaded up the tray with 500kg and its on it bump stops. Bloody pathetic excuse for a Ute, i finally got a new ute and its useless for what i need and contacting someone at Ssangyong that will help is useless. I suppose all we can do is warn other people off buying one as much as we can. Show details
great wheels – only small gripe is the indicator stalk is on different side of column to all other Australian vehicles. would also have preferred a cab protection bar fitted as standard, and a larger capacity fuel tank for Australia 100 litres. Show details
Great value ute – Owned a 2013 Ssangyong Actyon sports before did 280000ks without a problem.....couldn't wait to get my new Musso....proven diesel engine...so much kit for so few dollars... If you take one for a test drive you will buy it! Show details
Value for money – Mine is ELX XLV, I just need a basic dual cab ute, and I am happy that I chose Ssangyong. I like the design, interior space, extra long tub. I don't use it off road, the clearance is good enough to get onto any verge. I think the Japanese brands and Ford are overpriced. A few things I noticed in the first month: It becomes jittery on uneven… Read more
surface, mine has rear leaf suspension; Cruising at 100KM/H, the gear goes back to 5th by itself ofen. Acceleration too much at low speed, will get the engine noise, when revving over 1800rpm. The rest are all very good.
Nice 4x4 – Only had the Ute for a short while... but its a great drive and great value. Fuel economy is good as is all the features that come stock standard. best of its class Show details
Great – Picked up 2 days ago from Phoenix Ssangyong Wangara can't be more happy with the Musso and the dealer(great service). Why Ssangyong isn't more widely known maybe they should be more advertising. Its great to drive, quite refined more like a car better than the rest of over priced Ute's around. Its just great to drive very happy. Stoked – So I thought I'd wait until my 15,000km service before I posted about this. So before I bought the car I did months of research and looked for reasons not to buy one, and there were too many positives. Decided to take a risk, got the 2020 standard swb Musso and was pretty amazed at how quiet/refined it was to drive. I was worried the entry model… Read more
would be bare bones but it still came standard with apple play, some nice leather throughout the dash and centre console, reverse camera, and some REALLY nicely stitched seats. On 2 hour+ straight drives with just me in the car I'm averaging around 7.8-8.0l with a bullbar on the front. Plenty of power when it's needed. Will continue to do updates as car gets serviced.
5000km mandatory check up- took it to service workshop and only needed a wheel alignment, they completed it and I walked away without paying a thing.
15,000km service- paid the $375 fixed and they even gave my car a wash, cleaned some of the inside too. Was in and out of the workshop in 3.5 hours.
30,000km - only issue was a fault of my own. I was 4x4'ing and knocked the handbrake out so needed that re-aligned (they didn't even charge me for it). Otherwise car still running like i bought it.
45,000km - Rock flicked up onto bonnet while 4x4'ing (quite a while ago) and the chip has turned into a bit of surface rust. Not sure if this has anything to do with the paint quality but need to get this fixed. No other issues.
Only concerns about the car so far: - the indicator flicks off a little early as I make a turn which can get annoying. - some roads are a little 'vibraty' on the stock suspension. Though many people seem to think performance suspension fixes this and I'd recommend getting this if you plan on doing any off-road whatsoever - while it tows a 2.4 tonne boat amazingly and I sometimes forget it's there, a seventh gear would have gone a long way. -no current front recovery points available? We live in Australia and needs to be sorted asap (EDIT-SSANGYONG tuning seems to offer them on their new bullbar)

handles well. For the price of the car compared to others in the market I would recommend. Some people don't like the cutoff shape of the vehicle (like me) but can always be changed with aftermarket sports bar/sidesteps/plus hard roller top, makes the car look great. Also they have a partnership with Mercedes Benz that's why they look so luxurious inside. Hope this review helps someone with Thier choice I was not disappointed after my purchase, will make another review in a few months.
One of the best Cars/ Ute I've owned – Have the car 18 months now 50,000 K's later and can't fault it. Only fault is very minor when filling the fuel it takes a while to get the last 15 or so litres in. I do find a high flow Bowser helps. But if thats the only fault I can live with it. Comfy to drive any distance, tows well (16ft Caravan). Powerful enough all-round. I always use these… Read more

Exceptional vehicle with space, comfort and practicality – I tried out and compared all the main players in the double cab Ute market and had given up on upgrading again, that was before I came across the new long wheel base Musso MY 20.5, after doing resurch and although finding out Ssangyong were going through a difficult period it was still an easy decision to proceed with the purchase . regularly comment on how nice the Musso is both inside and out.
The interior has a very practical lay out with plenty of storage, great seats with loads of leg room in the front and back for the whole family along great visibility all up it’s a very comfortable and quite cabin to be in. The safety technology included is fantastic and even better on the Ultimate. I use the Ute for work and it is loaded up every day and with this extra weight it still performs very well with ample power and and really good handling, having a massive tub is a great feature that puts it in a class of its own and the cab size is not compromised in fact it’s massive as well ! The factory backed accessories that I fitted at purchase time are of exceptional quality and good pricing. Of a weekend when I take the family out they love the ride and can’t believe the quality and comfort this vehicle provides for a double cab pickup and the fact that we don’t feel like we are heading off to the construction site is a real winner that helps distance us from work as well. At 100km an hour on the highway and on winding roads it’s quiet, stable and a pleasure to drive. Great Pick up! Great buy Drive Long Ssangyong.
Very impressed – I took the punt and bought a Musso XLV. I do almost all country kilometres. I was not too sure if it would be powerful enough to get past a three trailer roadtrain. However I was pleasantly surprised to find it has absolutely no problems at all doing that. It's whisper quiet inside at 110 km/ h. It gets great fuel economy. Around 10l/100km and… Read more · 3
about 14l /100km for towing. The work Hiluxes get about 12.5l/100km at 80km/ hour It's steers really well on gravel or bitumen. The four wheel discs are exceptionally good. The leaf spring rear and coil spring front are quite impressive. My mate doing a very "spirited" test drive around a series of small roundabouts commented "I've got to get stiffer springs on my Porsche!" I find on WA less than average roads the rear springs unladen can be a bit stiff on the large bumps. A 300 kg load strapped into the back helps smooth things out. It is a work Ute after all. Update at 60,000km the rear springs have become more supple. Still a firm ride. Seating comfort for the driver is excellent no aches or pains after 5 hour journeys. The ventilated seats are great. The dash and controls take some getting used to there is quite a bit to learn. The drivers hand book is very detailed. I wish I had the time to read everything.
I would like to have a GPS that would work on the dash screen. Some more tie down points.
I have had a towbar and an electronic brake controller fitted. A bullbar soon. Update The only bullbar that I could get was a QLD aluminium one. For me it looks like a Garden Gate and definately makes the fuel economy worse. However it works well. One thing no one has mentioned is the tailgate locks with the doors. So far I am very impressed. 18-2-23 Now just over 60,000 km. Still going strong had a few issues. The Hand brake cable stretches. I have to park the car on a steep hill at my friends place. I pull the hand brake with vigour It stretches the cable and now for the second time it does not work. I will get it fixed again at the next service. I expect that I will just have to use less force on the hand brake lever. Fuel economy can be as good as 8.9l/100km. That's at 100km/hour. The rear leaf springs have become a little softer which helps with the ride. Still very impressed with this vehicle
