Cheap premium but worthless when claiming – Tenant accidentally dropped something on the cooktop and cracked the glass. First ever claim with SGUA after moving from AAMI (also not great) and they didn't allow the claim advising that it's a common property issue that needs to be claimed through the building's strata insurance. Complete rubbish. Cheap premium is obviously too good to be true. Going to try CHU next at renewal time. Our building strata insurance is with them so will be difficult for them to use the same argument. Will post back after first claim with them and see how they go.

You have to fight with them to get anything – Previously I was insured with Property Insurance Plus. They were good. However, they got bought out ("merged") with SGUA and then the prices went up, supposedly they covered more and their service went down. Recently had to make a claim. They have been slow to deal with, anything the put in writing is vague (obviously to avoid admitting liability), and when it comes to actually paying out, they fight to avoid paying every last cent.
I would not recommend them to a someone I disliked, let alone a friend. It is such a pity that a good company (PIP) has been ruined by a company that has bad insurance practises. If they are feeling out of pocket then they should be chasing the tenants and take them to court, rather than causing grief for the insuranced.
