Good solid stainless steel frypan – I can’t remember how long I’ve had this frypan, but to look at it you’d think it’s new, except, like the previous reviewer commented on hers, it’s only got three feet! One fell off ages ago and could not be reattached. Ever since I prop it up with different boxes and articles from the pantry. The novelty has long worn off! Where do I buy a replacement foot? Show details

Loved this frypan until the feet fell off – I loved pretty much everything about this frypan. It was easy to clean, a great size and I had no problems with the temperature. One of the feet feel off however, and I screwed it back in but it wouldn't stay on. I tried gluing it which was only a temporary fix. Eventually, I just used it three-legged. Finally, it started setting off the safety… Read more

Won't buy another one – I bought a stainless steel banquet frypan about s year ago After about a month it wouldn't cook evenly, heat properly, it would turn off by itself I would like a replacement of this item as I belief that it should last longer than this as it is a quite an expensive frypan Thanks Karen  Show details

Temperature Control is a NIGHTMARE!! – I have had this for a while now and have always been frustrated with trying to get a good simmer, I don’t think I’ve ever put it over 5 and to try get a good simmer I have to constantly move the knob up to 1 and below 1! I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to look at reviews and after reading all the other people having the same problem, I… Read more

Very dangerous - requires product recall!! – Product FP8950. Like others, I have to report major problems with the thermostat. On first use, turning onto 3 to slowly heat the pan as instructed to burn off any coating fumes, after 15 minutes ( only 10 required), Then good quality olive oil was poured into the pan to start cooking. The pan was so hot the oil burst instantly into flames that… Read more

were so high it was about to burn down the kitchen. Quick thinking immediately took the pan out the nearby door and throw it onto the driveway! Melted holes in the nylon dinning area carpet on the way. This product is out right dangerous! Sunbeam - you really need to recall this product.

Dangerous power cord – This cooker has had relatively little use and has always been carefully cleaned and stored in a cupboard after use with the sensor lead being stored in the cooker. In other words the unit has been well cared for. Last night the power lead shorted itself out and severly damaged the kitchen benchtop. Had there been anything flammable nearby (like a recipe book) it would have started a major fire. Not impressed at all.  Show details

What a pity – We opted for this frypan after our old Sunbeam ss pan croaked. Having used the old pan for maybe 25 years, we chose to use Sunbeam again. There was also no other stainless steel choice in stores near us. First, the pan is very heavy and noticebly heavier than the previous model. Second, the thermostat controller is nuts. We only use the range 1-5… Read more

which is around one third of the maximum. Anything over five on the dial and it would probably melt itself into the earth's core. Last, the base is not flat. There are too many waves in the metal which makes some browning processes quite a chore.

I am guessing that these frypans are now manufactured in some cheap labour country? The production standards are not being met very well.

To summarise: heavy, very poor thermostat and uneven cooking surface all at a top dollar price.

very disappointing – Like other reviewers I have had problems with the temperature probe, I bought a replacement probe after reading previous reviews and it has exactly the same fault. The stainless steel surface is excellent but absolutely loses its benefits if the pan is just too hot to use. Sunbeam, please do something about this fault.  Show details

Sticker trouble – Have not cooked with my pan yet - bought today unpacked and found a huge sticker in the pan. Peel before use it says "RIGHT". After 4 hours of trying to remove it, a huge argument with my husband and half a bottle of Eucalyptus Oil there is still a gloopy mess in the middle. Not able to cook in it today with a mass of family arriving. Better live up to expectations when i can (eventually) use it. Will re-review then!!!

Very disappointed – I purchased this frypan for my daughter and son-in-law. This is the second stainless steel Sunbeam I have bought for them as it is dishwasher safe and large as they have five children. The first one would heat up one end and not much the other, and now this one is doing the same thing. It also "hums" which is a concern. I paid over $100 for both… Read more

but have an old square one myself that is still going and was bought in 1994. These two "new" pans would not have had four years use. Very disappointed Sunbeam. What has happened to quality control. My other daughter was given a Banquet with the non-stick surface and it came off too. Going by the reviews these are ongoing problems. What is being done to rectify them, or does Sunbeam just keep taking the money?

Loved it! – Have had my Sunbeam frypan since 2006. At first the handle broke off the lid so my husband fixed it. Never had a problem with the temp control, everything cooked beautifully. Dissatisfied customer – Good size, good appearance. Temperature is uncontrollable. Will either burn everything or not cook adequately. The advice given was of no use whatsoever. I have had many Sunbeam appliances over 40 years but will not be buying any more. Consequently the appliance has had very little use. Would Sunbeam like to replace it with the upgraded, hopefully improved model, reinstating their perceived reputation of a top quality product.

Not up to expectations twice – I bought this for its robust look and stainless steel cooking surface. Easy to clean and generally worked well. First one had its lid handle break off. Replaced frypan with a new one and had more failures. The temperature dial indicator fell off (glued back on). The new frypan popped the circuit breakers frequently, so often that it was supplemented by a cheaper unit so we could complete meals whenever the Sunbeam stopped cooking. These frypans are sold as being dishwasher safe (ie waterproof) and this one was washed by hand after the failures (in dishwasher about three times in its life). Stainless steel and volume Electrical risk. It popped circuit breakers unexpectedly.

Excellent - but don't like thermostat – I've had this fry pan for about a year. I'm very happy with the Stainless Steel. It's easy to clean and so much longer life than Teflon. Easy to clean, just let it cool, put 10mm of water in the bottom and bring it back to the boil. *** I never add water to a hot pan so as to not warp the pan if it cools to rapidly and also to make sure I don't… Read more

get burns from the steam.

My only issue with this pan is that the thermostat (temp adjustment) is very hard to get used to. I'm not sure if it's a design fault or just my unit but if I set the temp dial above about 3 it is too hot to be useable. There are many occasions where I turn it down to quite well below 1 to cook something at a less savage heat. It may just be the scaling but it seems odd to have a temp dial that goes up to 10 if the highest you could ever use it on is 3. With previous frying pans I would've set them to 8 or 9 instead of 2 or 3.

This doesn't make it unusable, it just takes some getting used to and means I don't feel safe letting anybody else use it as they may turn it up to high and possibly have an oil fire as a result. Solid, easy to clean Temp dial settings aren't right.

A truly Outstanding Product! – We have had several brands of non-stick and aluminium frypans over the past 35 years - I do a lot of cooking and this unit is hands-down the #1 premium product - yes, it costs a bit more, but being S/Steel it will last for years! Could not be happier, and it's a Sunbeam so confidence in the brand! Superb heat (regulation) control, a breeze to clean, solid and reliable!

Not quite the bees knees – Great cooker, excellent size, have always had a good run with Sunbeam, but with the Sunbeam Ellise... ...the legs are too short! The probe is lower than the legs, only slightly, but we have to raise the pan on an old wooden chopping board so the probe doesn't get damaged. Very poor design fault. much luck with teflon even though very careful, it always ends up peeling. The top handle becomes very hot. Also because of this handle you can't flip the lid upside down to store sealed like I can with the old one. Not the warranty I'd expect with a stainless steel products as most of us wouldn't buy this for looks, like a stainless steel look dishwasher, but for longevity and no poisonous fumes as supposedly from aluminium and teflon.

totally bad – Have wasted time and money on two of these frypans. The first one I bought wouldnt heat so I ended up buying a whole new plug in control/thermostat arrangement. which I would normally do under a grill was easy. The pan heats evenly and is consistent with the temperature. I am slowly making my way through the recipes that Sunbeam have provided in their booklet. This is a sturdy, solid applicance in wonderful stainless steel. The handles are grip friendly, it's easy to clean, it can even go in the dishwasher. Energy efficent, easy to clean, heats up very quickly, cooks evenly. There is nothing wrong with this appliance, only a suggestion for a knob rather than a loop for the glass lid

It Runs Hot – This is my second Sunbeam Ellise. My first lasted 6 years 5 months before the heating element gave out (cast into the alluminium base). this one over teflon coated products. long lasting 18/10 stainless steel, less carcinogenic than other cooking surfaces, multiple heat settings, easy to clean once the pan has been sealed with oil, usefull manual with recipies, 12 month replacement guarantee If I only had one thing to say about this product it would be this: it runs hot. Often while cooking I have to pull out the control probe from the base just to get the temperature down quickly so the food won't burn. The temperature is thermostatically controlled meaning once it reaches the temperature selected it cycles on and off to maintain that temperature. Good in theory but set the temperature too low and it wont cook, too high it burns and that happy medium needs constant monitoring. It certainly works but is not as precise as say cooking with gas. I also question whether the heat is evenly distrubuted over the frypans surface.

OK – Cooks a yummy baked dinner, also great for pikelets too. ......once I've guess the correct temp to set handle on because original markings have worn off. I can see what I'm cooking. Quite easy to clean also. Not too happy about top steel handle because lid can't be turned upside down for storage. And the temperature markings wore off very quickly and I've had to white paint wjhat I think are the original markings....ggggrrr!

Terrible – This frypan is good for cooking things that need high heat eg.chips.Not good for roasts as it won't hold a steady temp. The heat is not evenly distributed on the base of the pan. I would not recommend this product. Not as good as the old smaller stainless steel sunbeam which they don't make now. (Still using mine even though the legs are falling off) easy to clean, nice size uneven heat

Love it! – After returning 3 to 4 frypan I know i will keep this for longer, since it got stainless steel finish. I don't have to worry about any scratch or puff with bones even on high heat. I nearly do all my cooking on this frypan. Easy to clean no need to worry about scratching the base. Lid holder heats up oh high heat, wish it had rubber gripper. Stainless steel base. Excellent – I am not a fan of teflon, so I love my stainless steel frypan. It heats up quickly and cooks evenly. I never use the oven - I do all my cooking with this, especially roasts. Terrible – It should never have been put onto the market with such glaringly poor heat distribution in the base - too small an element area and too thin an aluminium base. I like the stainless steel lining and the glass lid. A few fundamental things - The stainless steel liner is bonded to an aluminum shell - and the element is bonded to the underside of the… Read more

aluminium.

The thickness of the aluminium is such, that it's far too thin to dissipate the heat from the element. For instance, the egg will be frying and burning over an inch wide strip - above the element and yet one inch or more away from being directly above the element - it's liquid.

So the Aluminium is NOT thickenough by far.

The element needs to be redesigned to cover a greater area of the base and not just a small inner ring.

I have raised this issue with Sunbeam via email and they have just ignored me.

I also felt how the unit was marketed as having a 25 year guarantee on the stainless steel liner, as some how implying that the unit will actually last 25 years.

No such luck - the guarantee on the electrics and other bits is limited to 1 year.

That is a bit of a bait and switch conjob in it's own right.

Good – It is easier to clean than I anticipated. Bit wary of the fact that it says when hot do not put cold water on it as to me that means it will warp and if so it is the first frypan I have had that you can't put cold water into it. Shape, size and looks

Excellent – We had a Sunbeam electric frypan which did its job well for over 30 years. I am so glad Sunbeam has not let me down and has continued to produce high quality products such as this fry pan. It's become one of my favourite appliances. I cook a variety of dishes with ease: stir fry, pancakes, schnitzels etc. Due to the stainless steel, its relatively easy to clean and the glass lid means I can monitor my cooking without constantly lifting the lid.
