Sunbeam Ellise Stainless Steel Frypan FPM9000SS

Useless thermostat on Sunbeam Elise Stainless Steel Frying pan – I needed a new electric frying pan because my 50 year old Sunbeam aluminium one had finally "given up the ghost". Non-stick fry pans coatings flake off fairly quickly, and safety of the coating is questionable, so I opted for a stainless steel one. The only 2 on the market are Sunbeam and Breville. Sunbeam Elise looks more robust, and despite the reviews of hard-to-control thermostat, I decided to purchase one, as neither pan had particularly good reviews. There are 2 major faults with the Sunbeam Elise (1) the thermostat is useless........no temperature markings (as per the old one mentioned above) and min, med. max with a couple of markings in between each one is a worse than useless "setup"; full on, is way too hot for anything; medium mostly burns (any food stuff), and minimum does not cook anything. I am constantly turning heat up and down for the whole cooking time. (2) the lid seals in the steam generated in the pan too effectively, so that vegetables steam, rather than roast. (A variable vent, larger than the pitiful hole in the lid, might help...as per the old aluminium lid...and yes, this would be an engineering challenge in a glass lid!) One cannot leave the lid totally off when frying and roasting, as too much "spitting" of hot oil occurs, which is dangerous. And as part of point (2), one cannot prop the lid in a half open position, as per the old aluminium one. (the glass lid would be too heavy and there is no "prop" mechanism provided).
