Trendsetters!! – Bought to replace our wonderful 15 year old Sunbeam "Peace and Quiet" that worked right up until the bitter end when a slow leak put it out of action. A real 5 star performer, that one. The obvious problems - the water level window is on the left hand side. I'm not sure if you can buy "left handed kettles" ... but this sure feels like it. We… Read more

would always hold the kettle with left hand, and fill from our rainwater tap with the right, watching the water level right there in the middle of the kettle. Since we're not contortionists, now we have to do the opposite which feels completely unnatural to us. Maybe it's simply that we'd become accustomed to the old one, but checking with the 3 other kettles we own of mixed brands across a couple of properties, 2 have their water level in the middle, and one has it on the right.

So maybe Sunbeam is hoping to start a whole new trend here. If we'd realised this we would have bought a different model.

Secondly, and painfully, the markings on the water level scale are displayed simply as raised indentations in the plastic. No paint. So there is zero contrast to distinguish the markings from the background. This makes it hard to easily judge the level, especially all bleary eyed in the morning, or if there's condensation in the window!! Again reference to the 3 other mixed origin kettles we own confirms all have their levels painted on.

Sunbeam ... you trendsetters. Wish we'd examined this damned Quantum before purchasing ... so we'd have realised it ain't "right for us"!

This one takes a noticeably longer time to boil too ... and once boiling it stays boiling for a lot longer before the auto shut-off activates. Probably doesn't bother most, but we generate our own power, so every watt matters, especially with an appliance that uses 2200 of them!

Oh well, it boils water, it's stainless, and the stupid plastic filter in the spout is removable. That's all we need it to do. Jeez we miss that Peace and Quiet though ...

Hasn't broken yet – This recent purchase was part of a package with a Sunbeam toaster (see separate review) after many years without either following a string of very short lived kettles, some of which lasted only weeks before becoming unusable for one reason or another. I expect the simple technology of a kettle to last many years, so it is way too early to comment… Read more

on reliability. The window is useful for not overfilling and the unit heats quickly, though is noisy. No problems with the design and function so far...hoping the common problem with the spring in the lid failing doesn't become an early problem. Compared to others could be rated a good value buy providing it proves durable over many years. Otherwise it will be back to the 20 year old microwave for making tea.

Poorly thought out – The kettle works well but should have a level viewer on both sides for those of us who are not right handed, behind the handle as on some other brands won't cut it as they are even harder to see. My biggest gripe is with the dumb designer who thought it was a good idea to put plain steel springs in the lid of an electric kettle. They quite rapidly… Read more

rust out and fail to hold the lid up. I replaced mine with stainless ones that do the job as it should have been done in the first place.

Sunbeam kettle Noisy – Bought a Kettle in a haste, need to carry a spare. Satisfied with the operation over the last month, too early to evaluate reliability, so sticking with the facts. Has to be the noisiest kettle we have ever owned, when you need to turn it off if on the phone or turn the radio up whilst it's heating up. Would not buy again just for that reason alone.  Show details

Wish it wasn't made in China – This was an emergency purchase and if we had a choice we wouldn't have purchased an item from a company that manufactures in China, especially with the trade tensions right now. It is so sad that so many Australian companies have turned their backs on Australian manufacturing out of greed. That said, it is a kettle. It is fairly solid and a little… Read more

on the heavy side. The lid doesn't open far enough for easy filling with a mixer style tap and it has no safe spot to shut the plastic lid which can get hot.

Was so good now a little worse – We bought our previous Sunbeam Quantum over 5 years ago and use it more than 10 time every day (maybe even 20) and were very happy with it. The spring in the lid finally gave out. The problem is almost all the changes made are not an improvement. The handle does not feel as nice to hold. The switch is in the now popular at the bottom spot (mind… Read more ·  2

you they could have stopped the fact the switch sometimes got steam on it another way I am sure) and this makes the light harder to see. The neck is smaller and it does not poor as well as the old one. Not sure the opaque window is better or worse then the old clear one. The open button is not as smooth (this could just as its new and it will get better after a few weeks), hopefully this will mean the spring is better. Still for the price (and if it lasts as long as the old one) it is a great buy. I still recommend it but I just hope sunbeam put a few of the changes back in the newer model we are likely to get next time.

Great price, easy to use! – Great kettle, love the viewing window to take guess work out of water level! Heats quickly and much quieter than our previous kettle. Easy to clean - totally reccommend if you want a great kettle at a brilliant price! Show details ·  1
