As someone else has stated, all show and no go. This toaster dries the bread (Abbotts Country Grains) with a light brown tinge, if you like your toast dark (like I do) you have to set the toaster on maximum, when it finishes that cycle, turn your bread ( so it e ens the browning)and repeat on maximum again. For crumpets you have to repeat the cycle nearly 3 times, if I'd known I had to stand there and continually turn my toast or crumpets I wouldn't have bought this item, especially for the price that they are, if I could I'd return it for a refund.

Purchased in at The Good Guys for $149.

The Un-Toasting Sunbeam Toaster – It is beautiful except it does not toast. Nice styling reminiscent of the elegant fifties in shape and color. It has a nice base light that comes on when toasting and that was it for the plus side. Yes, it has the looks and style, but it does not toast bread. It dries bread and when you put it in a second time, you can almost get an all over toasting but even that is not even. Toast is darker on the back edge of the toaster. Disappointing. If you let them in for a second time, that part gets burned, the others are mostly perfect. The maximum time dial does not allow the toast to be inside for long enough to toast. Yes, agreed, you can toast it a second or even a third time, but why? Why limit the toasting time to, "not really toasted?"

The crumb trays are also awkward, small, and jerky to pull out. 100 years plus of toasters and you would think a company like Sunbeam would put in a larger tray that catches all the crumbs, but no, expensive item, minimal execution. The shallow trays are less than useful.

So, two stars for style and the light and one star that it works, but for us, we will not choose a Sunbeam product again. I should have researched Sunbeam and discovered they went broke and have since changed hands. Another century old company name used to peddle cheap products. Too bad. Over 100 years to get it right, and no, we will style it but not make it very practical.

No more Sunbeam...

Dear Sunbeam Customer Support. Ah, I see the previous reply is no more. It has been like this from the beginning but after dealing with it for so long, I had to share. What trouble shooting would you suggest? The time-setting is at maximum! Or do you want to replace the toaster with one that toasts? That would be nice.

Hi Sunbeam Customer Care, When you say, "...we are very sorry to hear that our product did not meet your expectations," are you saying a toaster that does not toast bread unless reused twice meets Sunbeam Quality expectations? Perhaps that should be included with the instructions on how to use.

So, that seems to be the end of it after they rewrote two embarrassing replies. $149 for a toaster that cannot adequately toast bread, and they seriously continue selling it at $159 and are not embarrassed? The other 4 slice toasters come from around $35! Now, is a $35 toaster did not toast adequately, you could say you got what you paid for, but a $150 toaster that does not toast and Sunbeam is not embarrassed about it?

Addendum. It seems like Sunbeam think their customers are 'limited' in their brain capacity. When they write "We appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve our products and processes..." what they are saying is Sunbeam cannot get an appliance right that was invented over a 100 years ago.

All show, no go – It's it amazing, humans can put a small car and a helicopter on Mars and remotely control it from earth, but no one can make a good and consistant bread toaster. Weird. This is a very slow toaster, or is it a dehydrator? You need to stand beside it to repeatedly push it down again. With a multigrain bread (heavyish) I had it on 7 out of 10, had to re-toast it 3 times. Pathetic. Needs a dial that goes to 30. Wouldn't recommend it. I hate waisting money on sh*t. Oh, BTW, they nailed the LED lights - great work guys, now just fix the toaster!

Looks and works great, slots not deep enough, no crumpet setting, power a bit low – My sunbeam 4 long slice toaster failed in under 3 years. Luckily I had paid for The Good Guys Concierge and got a refund. Covid times are affecting stocks at the store though, and all equivalent toasters are sold out. As I was looking at alternative 4 short slice toasters, I noticed defrost and a little bit more buttons, what a waste of time. Where has the crumpet button gone? I also noticed the depth of some of the toasters like this one had improved. So thinking my sliced bread would fit I went with it. I love the look of it, and getting it home liked it even better. Despite the styling being tops, the family were unimpressed as the large sliced bread poked out the top. There is enough room for it, but the mechanism needs to go down a cm or two further to fit the bread. Soo close. Now do we return it, or put up with it? We kept it... Overall it is great despite shallowness of lowering device. Minor issues - Power is a little low. - Could remove defrost, waste of a button that could be used for a crumpet setting.

Looks great, functions well – Our previous toaster of around 10 years finally gave up and we were more often than not getting a slice of warm bread with burned edges. So off to find a toaster we wanted. I loved the sleek and elegant look of this toaster, the colour was exactly what we were after and being a 4 slice with 2 different compartments was a bonus. Looks great in the kitchen. But we performed what i call the 'Vogels test' and here it fell a little short. I prefer to cook toast with one push but sadly to cook Vogels we needed to find the time combination that cooked to perfection which meant pushing down twice. Took a day or so to find it but have got it to perfection and the toast most of the time cooks it the same each time. There are some inconsistencies and every now and then it has to go down a third time but for the most part this way of cooking it is manageable and we do not mind. We have had the toaster for a few months and are really happy, the downside is the cost which was in the very upper end of our budget, am hoping to get many years out of this considering the cost.
