We bought this set from Good Guys. Kettle is ok but toaster didnt have a crumb tray. I couldnt take it back as I am in a wheelchair. I contacted Sunbeam to see if I could buy a crumb tray and they said no. Poor quality control and customer service! Show details

Purchased the Sunbeam Chic collection Breakfast set of Kettle & Toaster model PUM3500BK in black. The kettle decided to stop working less than 2 years from purchase. 22 months approx. Of course the warranty is 12 months but Sunbeam has a commitment to quality so I decided to contact them for a replacement as a consumer I would expect a kettle… Read more

to last longer. The cosmetic features eg. black coating on the kettle had started wearing earlier compared to the toaster which had no coating flaking issues, but didn't bother as kettle was working then also the numbers on the water level gauge had worn within a few months. Once kettle failed to switch on, I contacted Sunbeam who admitted product is faulty and out of warranty period they are not able to offer a replacement. Then they write "I would have loved to replace the product for you as I would love you to continue using the product but our system does not allow me to do so". Therefore they are just brushing me off and are not prepared to resolve the issue. Very poor customer service imo. I will not be purchasing another Sunbeam appliance in future. Very disappointing.

Same fault second time around – I reviewed this set 4 years ago when I’d only had it for 2 months. Unfortunately I put it under the 4-slice version by mistake. My original review: “ Good Kettle, Poor Toaster. I bought this combination in black and it looks very smart on the worktop. The kettle is good so far; it boils quietly and quickly, so there are no complaints on that… Read more

score. The toaster is a disappointment - it has to be turned to the maximum setting of 7 to get bread properly toasted, otherwise it’s very pale and underdone. But today it decided to give up the ghost completely, having been used a maximum of only half a dozen times (and cleaned out each time). It tripped the rumpus kitchen circuit breaker, and the same thing when tried in different sockets on the main kitchen circuit. So it will have to go back to the shop tomorrow. Not a great advert for a toaster that is only 2 months old. Update: the toaster and kettle have both been replaced (as they are classed as one item). The replacements are working fine so far, and I’ll update if anything else goes wrong.” So I’m now updating that review, as the replacement toaster has failed again with exactly the same fault - tripping the circuit breaker, no matter which socket it’s plugged into. This toaster may be 4 years old but it’s rarely used, about 2 or 3 times a year maximum. So this is obviously a manufacture/design fault. Good Guys won’t consider another replacement due to age but I’d like to know Sunbeam’s opinion on it. Having given Sunbeam an opportunity to respond to my review and their response that there’s nothing they will do, I’ll go ahead and publish this review.

Brilliant toaster and kettle set – Bought this set and I am so impressed, both the kettle and toaster are brilliant. Looks really good on the bench top, I bought it in black. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. I have only had it a month but it’s so much better than my delonghi toaster which died at only two years old, with the matching kettle being ditched long ago. Show details ·  5

Rusty after three months – Was given the Chic kettle and toaster set as a present. After three months I noticed rust on the kettle lid and when I looked inside the base is also rusted. Show details

Sunbeam say it’s not rust but lime scale however I disagree. The lid and top of kettle would not have a build up of lime scale.

Not a good experience – The toaster in the duo pack was great BUT the kettle after 2 months of constant use developed a funky taste to the water so bad that I could smell it before my cup got to my lips & I would know that I wouldn’t be able to drink it. When I smelt the plastic inside the lid I figured that was creating the taste. I did clean the kettle but it made no… Read more

difference. Aside from all that it was a really loud kettle. I returned the duo to the store & purchased another brand.

Matching kettle and toaster - looks good on the bench, basic functions, basic results – I purchased this matching set of kettle and toaster as they have to sit next to each other on the kitchen bench, and I like a simple uncluttered look. Also, buying the set that comes in one box was cheaper than buying two seperate appliances. They are both well made, stainless steel with some plastic parts, with a pearl white finish that is easy… Read more

to keep clean. I prefer the side handle on the kettle as I've got arthritis and find top handle kettle difficult to use. This has 'one handed filling' with a button on the handle that flips up the lid. The kettle itself is 1.7 litre capacity. The fill indicator on the side is clear on a white background with black numbering, and frankly there's not enough contrast between the clear plastic and clear water to see how full it is. The 'on' switch does have a light, so you can tell it's turned on. Compared to my last kettle this is noisy. The first time I turned it on it was initially quiet and then started to make a gentle noise as it heated up. I went two rooms away and could hear it getting louder and louder. Now, I can put the kettle on, go to another room, have the doors closed, watch TV, have the heater fan blowing, and still hear the kettle heating and then clicking off. I'll get used to it but if you want a quiet kettle then this is not for you. The toaster is a very basic two slot, with a dial for browning, that is clearly marked and has a nice sturdy feel when you turn it, clicking through the numbers 1-7. 3 buttons - cancel, reheat, defrost - light up when you press them. When you put in the bread and push down the lever, the cancel light turns on, and if you want to stop the toasting at any time you just press cancel and the bread pops up. You can lift the lever higher to get access to small bread or muffins. I've toasted several different types of sliced bread (wholegrain, soy linseed, fruit bread, and English muffins) and they've all come out darker on one side. I REALLY HATE THIS - and it was one of the reasons I replaced my old toaster. I want a piece of toast brown the same on both sides in one go - not toast, check, turn, change slots etc etc. So, bottom line, these are nice looking appliances with basic functions. If you're on a budget they're ok, but expect a noisy kettle and an uneven toast. Maybe it's just mine and yours will be better? (BTW - I purchased these from Appliances Online's ebay site with a discount coupon and paid $79 including next day delivery.)
