Inedible and fire hazard, does not absorb water – Dangerous, inedible!!! Does not cook no matter how long u cook it for. The longer you try to cook it you end up burning the bottom of your pot (black and it smells strong) yet the rest of the rice is mushy and watery and shiny wth??? What is this crap. I edible and a huge waste of energy and time and power. No other rice company sells crap like this. We aren’t a science experiment we are customers. Get real jasmine rice elsewhere. Show details

Sunrice has no quality control – This rice is suitable for crafts only. May recommend for animal consumption if needed but would recommend something cheaper then Sunrice.

Rice is of poor quality – Terrible rice with random quality. My wife is Thai and cooked rice all her life and is constantly smelling it as next day it commences breaking down and gives the appearance of it going off. We've had enough now and will switch brands. Show details

Terrible Quality Rice - like Pudding – As stated by many, no matter how little water or carefully you cook, this rice is terrible. It turns to mush and has no texture. They also claim on the packet long slender grains. They are very short small grains, they don’t even look like Jasmin grains when you look carefully. It is like the packet and claims has no relationship to the rice. Aroma for a Jasmine rice is also weak. Not sure it has a single redeeming feature.

AAA Jasmine Fragrant Rice – When boiling this rice it goes soggy and watery , doesn't cook properly states that it's a soft texture rice but more like a runny Porridge looking texture I wouldn't recommend or purchase this product again. Show details

Do not recommend Sunrise Jasmine rice made in Vietnam – Have been a fan for sunrise jasmine rice for years but noticed in recent years the quality of the raw rice has dropped (small, halved, chipped), the cooked rice is either soggy or mushy no matter how perfect the water to rice ration we used. Also have found insects in the bag after we opened rice, bought it from woolworth, unfortunately lost the… Read more

receipt and can’t get a refund.. in terms of price, the cost have double around and during Pandemic, I didn’t know the rice is actually imported from Vietnam until late 2022. Sunrise didn’t openly advise customers of this but if you search it specifically you can find a pdf statement bidding on goggle. It used to be made in Australia. The problem with imported rice is that there is a higher risk of insect contamination, also the international shipping fees would be added to customer thus increased price of rice. The cost of 5kg has doubled! $24 from coles/woolworth and $28 from Harris far as of January 2023 and during pandemic. Disappointed it’s no longer made in Australia.

Awful - used to LOVE it – Since changing packaging - awful . Obviously sourced elsewhere now. We tried ALL ways of cooking it. Either mush or crunchy. JUST HORRIBLE. Still on hunt for replacement. And yes , I agree with previous review: Disgraceful that we can not buy the good Australian SunRice Jasmine rice in our supermarkets. Hunting for different brown rice brand too , as I am also boycotting SunRice . Show details

Poor quality no longer Australian grown – It smells and tastes different now that it’s no longer Australian grown. I’m not surprised some people have found bugs in their packets. I’ve been buying this for years but I won’t be purchasing again.

rice n’ weevils – I had 5 bags of Sunrice 2kg each, different varieties. All were stored in a clean sealed plastic box . Upon opening one, I found it infested with weevils. Then checking the other 4 bags, we found them contaminated too. Trying to buy Australian first. The feeling of repugnance is lasting. Not nice! Show details

Weevil infestation – 2 five kilo bags bought 6 weeks apart. Freshly opened and both had weevils. A serious problem with this product. What about your obligations to provide a pest free product. Maybe this is why it seems to be on special a lot. Show details

Thai is better – Have had both Australian and Cambodian versions sold by Sunrice... but by far best Jasmin rice is from where it originated which I have had often Thailand...this sunrice jasmin very average at best... also would never by rice from a country that really doesn't have the water resources to do this Show details

Tiny living bugs in Sun Rice Jasmine Fragrant Rice 5Kg bag – Buyers beware of the Sun Rice Jasmine Fragrant Rice 5Kg sealed plastic bag. We purchased a bag a few months back & opened it last weekend and to our surprise found tiny living crawling bugs inside. Just be careful when buying any type of rice product especially if it’s not Australian grown & packed as you too may discover a nasty surprise. This experience actually turns you off eating rice altogether.. Yuk Show details

Only Australian grown is good – How ironic that now all the Australian grown Jasmine is sold under "Topaz" brand to Asian restaurants and supermarkets and Coles and Woolies are selling inferior Thailand grown Jasmine!!!!! Shameful. Will boycott all Jasmine rice until Australian grown is available again. The Queensland rain fed Tully brand was the best but no longer available… Read more

and then Sunrice were selling Australian grown Jasmine Koala brand which was also lovely. Will not touch imported and not surprised some reviewers claim they have found maggots. Why is Sunrice only marketing Australian grown to the Asian market while Aussies get imported rubbish? Is this a story for Today Tonight?

Jasmine rice 5kg bag change, now product from Cambodia. Does not cook well, crunchy after taking 3 x longer to cook – my last purchase of a 5kg bag, I noticed the cooking time took 3x longer. The results inedible, still crunchy leaving an unpleasant taste and texture .Many wasted dishes thrown out, quite disappointed. Show details

Customer service has not responded – I found that the Sun Rice Jasmine Fragrant Rice (5kg) package contained contamination. I never had such an issue before and the receipt from Coles Hurstville was already discarded. My spouse cut the top part of the package and the expiration date was unidentified. I have called the Sun Rice Customer Service number on the package (1 800 255 999),… Read more

explained the situation, and sent the photos to the email address (info@customerengagement.net.au) they provided on Friday, 24 April.

I still have not heard from them yet. I am afraid that they just receive phone calls only and did not intend to take action.

From cheaper Australian to dearer Cambodian rice – I used to always buy Sunrice Australian Fragrant Jasmine Rice. It was $13 at supermarkets for 5kg. Very quietly Sunrice dropped the word "Australian" from the name, keeping visually similar packaging, and added "Product of Cambodia" statement. The price also increased to $17. I emailed SunRice to inquire where to buy Australian Jasmine Rice in… Read more

large bags, as they still had it advertised on their website. This was in January 2019. They replied in February they're looking into it. To date, being mid-June 2019, I have not received a response.

This is from SunRice website: "Australia exports to 70 major international destinations including the Middle East, Japan and Hong Kong" and "... the industry generates around $800 million revenue per annum". In other words, Australia exports rice to Asia and imports rice from areas where environmental pollution could be numerous times above that of Australia.
