Out with the 2 stroke in with the 4 stroke – Just changed over my Yamaha CV 30hp 2 stroke to a new Suzuki tiller steer 30hp 4 stroke and I couldn’t be happier. Still running it in but the difference is chalk and cheese. The Yammie had heaps of grunt but it absolutely hated to go slow. Trolling at slower speeds caused the plugs to oil up and the best way to un foul them was to stick it in neutral and rev it hard for a minute or two. Bad for the hearing. The Suzie starts at the press of a button has power trim/ tilt and when idling you can barely hear it. Trolling will definitely be no problem. I have a 4.4m Stessco and even though I am still running it in it gets the boat up on plane easily. I do a little bit of outside fishing at Coffs and the ability to chug along a bit slower in swells without having to worry about fouled plugs is a comfort. The low weight is another big bonus. I can highly recommend the 30hp 4 stroke Suzuki as a great upgrade for 2 stroke users.

Purchased in for $6,900.

Exceptional Value & Performance – Bought my Suzuki DF30A Tiller Steer Outboard motor in December 2019 to push my Quintrex Wide Body Dory 420. Was told by all except one outboard dealer that a 30 HP four stroke would not have enough grunt to push a 420 WB Dory & that I should get a 40. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!! I chose not to go with the 40 for the following reasons. 1. Another 2.5 to 3 grand cost. 2. At around 100kg a 40HP was approaching the maximum transom weight limit of the hull & from experience, too much weight at the transom caused my old 2 stroke Mercury 30 on the same boat to really struggle to get the boat out of the hole & onto plane. The 30 HP Suzuki perfroms as follows. 1. The engine has so much torque down low that you don't really have to rev it to get it on plane, just trim it right, hold the revs at an acceptable level & the torque just tractors the hull out of the water & onto plane. 2. Got the boat to well over 45KPH & at about 3/4 to 2/3 throttle. That's as fast as I want to go in a 4.2 tinny. 3. Performs as above with two bodies in the boat. One at 85kg & the other at 95kg. Can't speak for three up, but if you're fishing with three in a 4.2 - good luck to you! 4. Electric trim & tilt. Electric start & pull start also. The injectors don't need a battery to run. 5. Great on fuel. A full day of fishing & about 25 clicks covered, used 12 litres of 98 octane!!! 6. Engine only weighs about 70kg. 7. Simple controls, no complicated tiller handle controls to cause faults over the years. 8. By far & away the best value 4 stroke 30HP TS on the market IMHO. 9. Suzuki Australia had a special on portables in late 2019, so I got a substantial discount from RRP. $5,2000.00 fitted + $200.00 for a battery + $100.00 for a genuine Suzuki water seperating filter. Though I doubt very much you'd get one for that now & I really had to shop it all over the place to get that price, next closest was 6k. 10. Super quiet & smooth engine. 11. Spark plugs & filters etc are cheap. I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on this engine. Yes you can buy something that is possibly better with more features, but there was only one other 30 HP on the market that weighed only 70 odd KG & I was a lot more expensive. NO MORE PULLING THE MOTOR UP & DOWN MANUALLY. Electric trim makes a good day out on the water just plain excellent.
