Programming update error after 4 years old now useless doesn't work – I'm appalled by how short the lifespan of this TV has been. I bought it in June 2019, and just a little over 4 years later, it won't turn on anymore due to a programming error. Despite reaching out to TCL and receiving a few downloaded updates, none of them have resolved the issue. This TV has been sparingly used in the bedroom, typically just… Read more
a couple of hours a day, and has been well taken care of. However, I'm extremely disappointed with its durability.
In all my years of owning TVs, this is the shortest time one has stopped working, especially due to something beyond our control like a programming error.
I won't consider purchasing another TCL TV as their quality doesn't seem to be built to last.
Okay but no sleep timer or after sales service – I purchased a 32” S6800 for the bedroom but I cannot find the sleep timer. I presumed it had a sleep timer but now doubt this. Disappointing, but more so the fact I have emailed TCL customer service asking where the sleep timer is without response and have just sent another complaining and challenging them to respond. I would never buy or recommend another TCL tv based on my experience. Show details
Simply doesn't work as advertised – I bought this Android tv on the promise that it has Chromecast. It doesn't. It has T-cast, which doesn't do anything detectable. I've spent 6 hours trying to get it to work so I can display what's on my Android phone, following every direction on every help page. Plain old screen mirroring from 5 years ago worked way better than this. I feel completely ripped off, I have to say. Show details
Great product for its price – When I purchased this TV I wasn't honestly expecting much at that price, however I am amazed by its features and reliability. It has the exact same interface of my Sony Bravia even if I have to admit that it is a little less responsive than the Bravia, e.g. starts slowly. Show details
Great features for an under-$500 TV – This is one of the few under-$500 smart TVs that includes a browser that can access SBS On Demand. When using the browser, it's important to know that the only way to move out of the on-screen keyboard is to press the "EXIT" key on the remote control. Audio that is played by a stereo connected direct to a DVD player is out of sync with audio that… Read more
comes from the TV. Running the stereo from the TV's headphone output seems to fix the problem. It takes 45 seconds from switch-on to boot the Android operating system and start showing a TV program. We've had the TV for only 2 weeks, and have already had to reset the system once to fix problem of sound but no picture. We hope that doesn't happen too often! To reset, switch off the power point, hold the power button for 5 seconds, wait a minute and re-start.
Has audio sync issues – Bought the 32” TCL 32S6800S model to go in the bedroom and seemed like it would be a good fit, however there is audio sync issues on all the smart tv features netflix, Stan, YouTube etc. There was also audio sync issues when watching free to air channels but there was an option in settings for audio delay which fixed the problem but that option… Read more
doesn’t exist for Netflix, Stan, YouTube. I connected a sound bar to the tv with an optical cable to test the audio and there is no audio sync issue when an external speaker is attached. Do I feel the tv was worth buying, honestly no since I now have to go buy a sound bar to go with the tv or using Netflix or Stan is utterly intolerable as it’s like watching a badly dubbed film as the sound is ~ 1 - 2 seconds out of sync.
EDIT: firmware update released about a year after purchase fixed the audio sync issues however after 2 years I’ve lost the picture due to the led lighting strips failing inside the TV, have been told it is repairable however it will be not much more expensive to buy a new TV, get what you pay for I guess.
