TCL Movietime Family Watch MT40

Good for 6 months, now useless – I purchased this watch through Vodafone last year. It didn't have text, just voice clips and calling. It went great for 6 months, then the speaker kept going in and out. Then started working again. A month later the watch band broke. Kids being kids, it broke while playing at school and got scratched. I took it to Vodafone to ask for a replacement band, but since I took it without the broken band I couldn't send it in. Plus was told it was scratched so they won't even accept it to send away. So I contacted Alcatel themselves and asked for a replacement band. But no reply. I looked online, Ebay etc..but can't find a replacement band. The SIM card keeps getting dislodged due to there not being a band to keep it in place. So, just shy of a year, I'm still paying for a watch that is pretty useless to me. I wouldn't purchase again. Going to pay out the watch through Vodafone and be done with it.

Great concept, terrible unreliable product – Watch seems to work well to start with until you try to use the features. Messaging works sometimes. As a parent you may get a notification that the child has sent a message, but there is no message there. Some messages turn up the next day, others not at all. Sometimes the child will send a message but you dont get a notification. Watch randomly turns off halfway through the day even when fully charged that morning. The only way to turn it back on again is to plug in the charging cable and the watch then shows it is still almost fully charged. Pedometer function does not update in the app. Don't ever set a reminder, as a reminder set for 3:30 on a Thursday creates an alarm at 3:30 EVERY SINGLE DAY and removing the reminder from the app does NOT get rid of it. Phone calls work sporadically. Even after dealing with all of this, we persevered with using it as we don't have another option, but this week (after 3 months of use) the watch strap broke and now is unusable. The phone number included in the box for warranty in Australia is never answered.

Overheats, not reliable - don’t purchase – Purchased for my son for Christmas. The watch overheats after a call or too, sometimes only after one call and not useable until it cools down. Video causes it to overheat most immediately and GPS not very accurate. Last week my son couldn’t dial out. This week he can but I can’t call him. Support line always engaged, contact is near impossible. I’ll be returning the watch next week when I return home. A waste of monthly telephone fees.

Not so smart kids smart watch – Only just got this for my daughter but already 1000 times better than the Moochies watch. Firstly, it's actually working (we had 2 moochies watch fail) secondly it's 4G and accepts a nano sim from any carrier, unlike the moochies watch which is locked to the worst coverage telco in Australia, Vodafone, and only 3G. You don't have to open the moochies app to make or receive calls from the parents phones so another tick! Only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because it's early days, we'll see how it goes. Oh and it's the same price as the moochies watch but looks like it's worth significantly more UPDATE : After 3 months it turns out that this watch is as useless as the Moochies watch we bought for her for Xmas. Now this piece of rubbish won't let us, the parents, call out daughter even tho we are listed in the app as approved numbers, but she can call us. Tried to ring the support number but that's not working either, pathetic

UPDATE : To this day I never got a reply from TCL support, absolutely woeful. That said, other than the watch reporting my daughters position as at a strange house 5km away when the watch was in her bedroom, it's being working OK (roll eyes) Now there is a watch that is designed in Australia and by all reports has good support and is cheaper than the Movetime, it's called Kidsoclock and I'd strongly recommend it over the TCL or Moochies
