Works well with minimal amount of devices – I bought this as I was going remote and Telstra was the only service available. I’m with Optus. It works well, yet the light panel doesn’t work the way it should. As long as it does what it is meant to, that is all that matters. Because the lights weren’t working correctly, it took a little while to figure out. We only connected three devices.… Read more
Therefore we had enough speed to get us by and still using it at the moment. It’s pretty good, just the light issue and that’s it. I bought it from Big W $30 off the original price
I do not recommend it as it didn't work, and it has only been a waste of time and money – I DO NOT RECOMMEND the Telstra 4GX Wi-Fi Plus. I purchased it at a Coles counter as a mobile Wi-Fi device promising to enable connection of smart devices for mum who was entering a care facility. Although it had its own sim, & a few gigabites of data, it received no reception bars after activation via my mobile phone. The target location for use… Read more
is in the Port Stephens area, certainly not a remote location.
Back to Sydney, I went to Warringah Mall telstra shop twice, to troubleshoot the mobile Wi-Fi device. Staff were disinterested in providing any assistance apart from offering to sell additional data. I explained that the device had no signal at the place I needed it to work, & so additional data was useless. Straight into the too hard basket if they couldn’t sell something.
Then a number of additional problems surface a month later. The first was that I received a text to make a second monthly payment for my prepaid phone. It now seems this was a payment for the mobile Wi-Fi device (the one that doesn’t work) disguised as a recharge of my mobile number, via a notification. A tell-tale sign was my billing receipt pdf had changed from my address, becoming the address where the mobile Wi-Fi device was registered to be used.
This debacle consumed a lot of time, including multiple attempts to set up the device, plus attempts to sort out the unexpected bill. Online chat help, added more data to the device (not requested by me), ignoring that I explained doesn’t work at the location that it is needed. Very dissatisfied after wasting a lot of time on the online chat. Tried the telephone help with a real person, who resolved what should have been possible by the online chat staff, but dismally didn't. Lesson I learnt, 1) don’t recommend the Telstra 4GX Wi-Fi Plus to anyone. 2) be more selective when dealing with Telstra when trying to sort out problems, by (i.) avoiding online chat who’s comprehension of the issues was poor, (ii.) only enter telstra stores at location well managed, unlike my experience at WM. (iii.) use telephone help with a real person as this is much better that the Online chat help
Absolute rubbish – Slow, very slow. Can't connect to more than 3 devices without becoming bogged down. Battery life is not even close to that stated. Show details
Not worth looking at – Purchased 2 direct from Telstra and found both to have identical issues. Absolutely not happy as these were ideal to use as the best solution for controlling security cameras to try stop continued thief's and break-ins whilst away, but Telstra seemed to have done that anyways. Claims they allow you to connect 10 wifi connections to the device is… Read more
FALSE, both items allow only 3. Battery power is the worst I've seen in any given product, within 1 hour be ready to watch the devices shut down. When placed on a permanent power supply, the units get extremely hot, hot enough to make me wonder how many of these items have started fires. Actual wifi connections from other devices becomes lost frequently. Actual signal doesn't surprise me, one moment it has full signal the next your waiting for the device to locate Telstra's signal from what ever tower may be working. No matter what data plan your on, either post or prepaid, you can watch your data chew up at a astronomical rate before your eyes while using these devices.
These items are not worth buying even to try out, please save the planet's rubbish pile from growing and move onto something not labelled as a Telstra product
Generally trouble free 3G/4G hotspot locked to Telstra network – Probably one of the easiest portable 3G/4G roaming WiFi hotspots out there, small enough to travel with - I have used one of these for 2-3 years now and own the 2017 or 2018 model without the colour screen display, with Telstra's superior mobile coverage compared to everyone else this has been the low upfront cost and reliable WiFi connection. … Read more
Although Telstra's pre-paid pricing isn't the most generous, the unit does everything that you need for basic reliable service in fairly remote and rural locations. Definitely do pay attention to how you set it up, do not attempt to use this device roaming outside of Australia, and definitely do not lose the original AC power adapter as I found that using other adapters have overcharged the internal battery and caused "battery swelling" that is enough to deform the exterior case, to its credit the unit has continued to work despite this.
The unit is made by ZTE of China, so there are possibly some privacy and quality concerns that some might have although in my experience the unit has worked very reliably without any drop-outs or unexpected issues. Its a disposable product that can last up to 2-4 years if looked after and the prepaid usage and charges do reliably appear on the MyTelstra app once you associate the WiFI prepaid hotspot with your other Telstra services. I have not had to use the after-sales or tech support for this device so can't make any comment about that.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE – Followed the setup, according to the manual. Called help number and was fobbed off 6 times. Phoned Telstra direct but they found every reason NOT to help. Returned for refund Show details
Extremely Poor Service, Incompetent Staff – The quality of the services and the competency of their staffs at this store, 152 Queen Street Mall, Brisbane City QLD 4000, is beyond unbelievable low. I bought a mobile broadband from them in January, which also includes the data with the dongle. However, the staff sold me a separate sim card to have data enabled. Product knowledge is bad and… Read more
incompetent.
After I found out what exactly happened, went back to the store next day. I tried to explain what happened, but this particular didn't agree the original mobile broadband comes with data. I had to show him on my mobile what their Telstra webpage writes. He took my contact details and suggested they will contact me next day. As expected they didn't call back. He is rude, incompetent, and has zero idea about the products they sell.
After waiting for 2 days, I went back again. After explaining the same thing a few times at the store, was told no one is available to help, whilst you see their staffs roaming around the store doing nothing. Poor customer service and rude.
Went back a week after, and finally spoke to the guy who first sold me the services. He had to check the website and gave me the excuse Telstra keeps changing the offer so that's why he is not up to date with the product information. He sounded like as it was my fault. He then had to check with his manager, who took no interested in me as their customer. They finally agreed to refund the money of the unnecessary sim card service, took it off and activated the original one. Guess what, he didn't activate it. By now this is the 4th time I had to visit this store to get a simple service - mobile broadband. Incapable staff and manager.
Then I visited the store for the 5th time. He activated the sim card and showed me the website that it is activated. After I got home and tried it for a number of times, it still didn't work. The card is not activated. incompetent staff and low quality product.
Finally, visited them for the 6th time. Explained what happened and the service is not activated yet. The staff insisted it is already activated as shown on the screen. The stupidity of their staffs are beyond any imagination. Should the service, why did I bother coming to the store? Plain stupid is the best way to describe them because they think their customers are stupid. It's exactly the same conversation I overheard other staff talking down their customers, who sat right next to me. Turned on my mobile and showed them what the problem is. He then had no choice but to fix it. Replaced the sim card and it finally worked but guess what, it only has few days left for the services. He didn't bother to fix it for me until I asked him to.
The stupidity and incompetent of the management at this store is probably the reason why all their staffs are equally incompetent. Should it not because Telstra have a slight monopoly over other telco due to the historical reasons, Telstra should really be ashamed of their products, services and overall attitude.
To summarise it, they are arrogant, poor customer service, no product knowledge.
It works – Once it is set up it just works. I have no Telstra or nbn currently where I live. This little portable modem just always works. I didn’t set it up ( that’s not my strength) but it has just sat on my desk and worked for 3 months now. I took it away and plugged it in in my hotel room and it continued to work. Show details
Telstra 4GX Wi-Fi Plus – First time after a long time for using Telstra's products. Very pleasantly surprised. I am in a black spot with connectivity but am able to gain good reception here with Telstra. The modem also works as soon as plugged in - plus holds it's charge for a minimum of 6 hours (I haven't tried longer but it says it goes to 8 hours from memory) Show details
