I currently have a Nighthawk M2 which has started acting erratically after about 5 years. I am considering buying a Telstra 4GX t replace it. Any comments re performance etc

I have one of these Telstra Pre-Paid 4GX Wi-Fi Plus devices for about 6 months and it works fine. I'm going to Europe soon and I wonder if it can be used there with a local data sim. Thanks

after the x days expiry it comes with, can you shelve it and say renew it again say a year later for another x days of usage? I'm thinking of only using when on holidays

It has never work for me, at the location it was sold. You may have better luck than me if you live in a major city in an area with good mobile signal reception. I don't know how long sim will retain its number if you don't recharge. You might have to buy a replacement SIM.

I think the sim that comes with will expire if not used or recharged within a specific time frame.

Can I use this product if I am not with Telstra. I want to use and access wifi while on holiday.

No, it only works on Telstra branded sims - if you use a Telstra reseller like Aldi the signal will not work.

Hi, The unit appears to operate as intended but it keeps asking for a password in another window even if its connected. When you put in the correct password it tells you the password is incorrect. Would like to know how prevent this password window coming up. Have removed the files and reinstalled but the problem persists. This unit is for an elderly person who is relatively new to computers and is very confusing for him when this window keeps popping up requesting the password.

Used my usually reliable Telstra broadband device yesterday on my iPad's Google maps with voice but it couldn't keep up with our travel. Said weak security. Has that got anything to do with poor reception or am I way off the mark?

Fiona, without looking at the actual item, it could be :: 1.) poor reception (try using it in another location) 2.) Virus on iPad device (apply an intense anti-virus and anti-malware software) 3.) Updated Telstra security requirements e.g. password and settings (if the above don't succeed, update your settings)

Can you use an Aldi SIM in this. They use the Telstra towers and some of their transmission band for their network, but not sure if these gadgets are locked to Telstra, or you can use other providers? Cheers Lindsay

No they are locked to Telstra and it doesn’t work for their resellers, unless you pay an unlock fee. The exception might be Boost but their are no guarantees it will work with them.

Thanks. I will get the thing unlocked and try Aldi SIM then. I can always go back to Telstra if it’s not getting good reception. They have to be cheaper than Telstra. Cheers. Lindsay

I had no aerial. Just plugged it into a power point and it worked!

At the back of the moden are two "lids" with a wifi icon and numbers 1 and 2. Lifting the lid reveals a metal male plug. What is it for? Can a wire be attached as antennae extension? I am in a poor reception area looking for improved signal

I was recommended one of these units (Telstra 4GX) because there is no NBN service in my area. On the plus side it works with quite a weak signal (one bar, two if I put it in the roof), and the speed is sufficient for streaming movies. On the negative side, the wifi drops out every ten to thirty minutes. I either wait for it to return or manually reset the unit. I am certain this is not a mobile signal problem as my phone (also Telstra) does not drop-out at the same time. Basically, the unit appears to go to sleep and the wifi signal dies. I have set the unit to wifi sleep mode "always on." Is anyone else enduring this problem?

It's got aerial ports, by a good external aerial to see an improvement.
