When we started using a 4GX hotspot the little light was RED while in use or charging and GREEN when fully charged so we could see it was fully charged which worked well. Now it just BLINKS green all the time .What has changed?

I think that's what ours did when the battery started to die. Ended up having to buy a new battery as it wouldn't even turn on in the end, $20 on eBay.

How can I replace the battery in the 4GX dongle please?

Dave B.
Dave B.

You simply pop the bck cover off and the battery is underneath. We got one from ebay for about $20, then bought starlink and havent used it since.

I have a Tekstra 4G Advanced Wi Fi Dongle. I have the battery inserted correctly, but when I try to charge it, it comes up with a message saying no battery & it won't charge. What could be the problem?

Dave B.
Dave B.

If it's not turning on at all I would say the battery has died.

Rob
Rob

Thankyou Dave B. It does turn on though, just won't recognize the battery. That could be the problem.

Has the battery died completely? They won't power up with a flat battery even when on the charger. If you remove the battery then plug in power you should get a dotted battery outline, try turning on and it will start to boot then shut down. If it does that then the device is ok and the charger is ok, the battery is stuffed.

Just purchased 4GX Hotspot today to replace NBN. Told by store to take battery out and connect to power whilst using st home. But can’t get internet connection when battery out and plug into power

Dave B.
Dave B.

We were told the same, however the unit will not power up without the battery. Its a real pest as leaving it on charge all the time kills the battery - we just replaced our battery as it had swollen to 4 times the orignal size. Now we plug it in until lunch then unplug for the afternoon.

Can this be charged off a cigarette lighter (12vlt)or battery pack?

Dave B.
Dave B.

Hey Jenny, it is charged from USB, so a cig plug to USB adaptor will work fine and it doesn't need high power (low power will charge really slowly). We run it in our caravan on USB sockets only. Only issue is after 15 months the battery has expanded to 3 times it's size as we have it on charge all the time as we use it most of the day all days. New battery on its way from eBay...

I power mine off when not using it, and charge it via USB (red light goes on). The device charges to 100%. At some point the the red light goes off. When I use the device again a few weeks later, I notice the charge has reduced to 60% or so. I find this odd since the device is powered off and plugged in to USB. Any tips?

Dave B.
Dave B.

This is normal for these devices. If they detect they have been on charge for over 16 hours (whether turned on or off) they will reduce the battery charge to 60% so the LiPo battery is not sitting at 100% for weeks on end. The battery type used (LiPo) will expand and deteriorate if left at 100% for extended periods so its designed this way to make the battery last longer. Unfortunately since the battery only runs for about 8 hours anyway ours is always plugged in and has been for the last 16 months we have been on the road! (we work 3 days a week and use it for streaming tv at night so its used most of the time)

I have had it on charge 10 hrs but it still won't turn on no lights or power

Dave B.
Dave B.

Step one check the USB power and lead by changing both just to make sure (I have a USB lead that wont charge the 4GX for some reason but works fine with my phone). If thats all good, as soon as you plug it in you should get a light indicating its charging, if not, back to step one once more just to be sure. While charging the light should be red, when charged it will be green (or some models flash green while charging and solid green when full). Press and hold power button for about 5 seconds then wait for another 5 seconds for screen to start to light up. If nothing, the unit is faulty :(

Should the battery and power be used concurrently?

Dave B.
Dave B.

No option, on is on! When plugged into power it charges, when not plugged in it discharges. So yes, fine to run while plugged into power

Do we need to charge my 4GX HOTSOT ALL THE TIME

Dave B.
Dave B.

Yes. It will run on the battery from a full charge for about 10 hours. We leave ours plugged in all the time as we use it all the time, however afterb16 hours on power it stops charging and drops to around 50 to 60 %. The screen says it's in power save mode and will drop to 65%, but always much lower than that. We have to reboot it anyway every couple of days as the downloads and uploads get really slow, a reboot fixes that and sets the charge back to 100%

I keep mine plugged in all the time when we're using it at home. But when we're travelling in our Caravan I'll fully charge before I leave home & then turn it off until we get to our destination then I'll plug in back on. The reason I do this is because I stream movies & Tv shows so this uses alot of battery over nigh.t

LuLu
LuLu

Yes. But some devices keep dropping off anyway. I am returning mine.

When not using device fora long period is it best to take battery out and store safely ???

Mike R
Mike R

Absolutely yes, and this is also best with all battery operated items. Leaving batteries connected unused for long periods not only decreases battery life (marginally) but can also do damage to the items terminals with battery corrosion. Some terminals have been known to corrode all way through which will render the item US. Having said this, not all batteries can actually be removed. If you cant remove the battery, I would suggest (I am not an expert so correct me if I am wrong) giving it a top up charge when below 40% and storing it at room temperature where there is no moisture. Batteries hate both cold and moisture in my experience.

How many devices can be connected

Mike R
Mike R

Not 100% sure, but I have had 4 connected all the time without a problem. 2 x iPhone, 1 laptop, and a iPad, so I guess 5 devices probably. And I know you never asked, but this tiny piece of hardware is the best $130 I ever spent. We live off this thing now for only $25 a month on the Telstra mobile plan, when before on NBN it all cost me $90, and once all our devices were configured to connect to it the first time, they now all do it automatically. Of course if you want more than 20GB/month (which is more than we ever use for just the 2 of us) it will cost you more. Let me rave on even more; My sister and her husband spend $240 a month to get what I got for only $35 per month. Telstra 20gb data only (this dongle)... 25.00 2 x dodo $5/month plans for unlimited calls.... 10.00 Total... $35.00

Don't forget this is for 2 people using 2 phones unlimited calls, and 4 devices using the 20gb data... all for a lousy $35/month.

How come when i went to set it up on my laptop using the credientials provided it did not work? Got to the last step and it would not allow the finalisation of the procedure. How is that possible? Is this a glitch in the system or my laptop hardware cannot support this technology?
