Awesome laptop .10 years and still going strong !! – Not sure what people are whining about . This is a amazing laptop . I bought the X500 9 years ago when it was on special for $2200 . I have done every thing with it from gaming to video editing and it was a beast especially in its day . I loved it so much I bought another one 2nd hand for $600 . Yes it is heavy as others have said its basically a… Read more

desktop . It has the best screen quality and I still find no need to upgrade . Maybe If i wanted to play the latest games as I am not gaming much these days . I wish Toshiba were still making them . Its out lasted every Asus and HP laptop I have ever had and I never worked those like I did this one . If its over heating . Clean it out and provide more room under it or even better get a cooling pad for $30 on ebay . It will be a sad day when she is gone . My buddy who also owns one put a SSD in his and its even better now . Might do that one day .

Toshiba Qosmio X500 – Well i just got through reading all these horrible reviews, and can i just say some are valid and some are just people complaining because they are frustrated they spend 2000 on an gaming machine/desktop replacement. First off, of course its heavy!!!!! Second, most computers after (wait for it) need a good dusting out! I actually had the… Read more ·  1

same issue with heat with mine, however all i did was take a can of air and bam all better, literally like new again. Remember dont have your computer on a bed, chair, couch, any soft surface that can plug the vents. This is the first killer of any laptop. If you play games on it get a chil mat if your going to have it on your lap or in bed so it can get some air!

Third, everyone says its so expensive. Come on you bought a 17" quad core state of the art desktop replacement with 8 gb of ram and 1tb hard drive (which at the time most companies were only putting in 2-4 gb of memory, and 250 - 500 gb of hd space and only 4200 and 5400 rpm drives).

Forth, several people said they made sure they did windows update!! Ok wow. Instead of blaming toshiba why don't you blame yourselves for not checking toshiba website to look for updated bios and drivers if you so chose to keep updating your os. Just because msft upgrades the os you think that just automatically think your drivers will all just work, and if toshiba didn't have them the separate manufactures do. Namely 1 nvidia!!!!!! I for one have never ever had a problem with locking up or video issues unless i don't do my do-diligence.

As for the couple people that had bad hard drives, i feel for you, but its not toshiba's fault unless the drive is a toshiba drive. I actually replace all my drives with ssd as soon as they became affordable. I figure i just spent 2k on a nice lappy why not make it scream even more.

Lastly, i find it really sad that any computer store could not figure out a rebooting issue, or have any issue fixing any kinda laptop. Time to look for a new store. Maybe i miss understood the comment but still if i can have mine for over 3 years, and it still runs like a dream someone isn't doing it right.

In closing i would also like to point out, i am not some toshiba fan or what not. I actually have an alienware x17 (nov 2013), but i do like the toshiba qosmio line of pc's (except this year, but that another review).

Good luck with your purchases! Fast, Quad Core, good hard drive space, lots of Ram

Just Terrible! – Please, Do not buy the laptop! I beg you! I'm actually writing from Qosmio X500. The only reason I bought this laptop was that it was reduced from $2,500 to 2000 with extra 2 year warranty. Unfortunately it is a lemon. After half a year, the laptop started overheating, it was ridiculous, it kept on shutting down, I mean just as if you… Read more

would unplugged from the socket. (Overheating is one of the biggest problem with this laptop).

Now, another matter, after a while, it will keep crushing (Windows stopped responding and now restarting) even though I have installed all the updates.

The HDSP (Hard Drive Shock Protection) stopped working, the laptop now is not under warranty, so I'm not going to bother fixing it. Also Toshiba decided to place in the "Eco Utility Button" which is completely useless, when On, opening a folder or not mentioning doing stuff like "Maths Calculation" or using programs that require high RAM usage barely open or run.

I guess it is only there if you need to go out for like 10 minutes so the Machine will run on a lower power usage.

Also time to time, it crashes as I mentioned with driver error, usually message pops out "Windows Operating System not found" when the computer trying to boot.

Another problem, it is bloody really heavy, if you are a student like me, please Do Not Buy It, after a while carrying it, you will be in pain.

I would like to add that I previously had an HP Pavilion dv2500, I really miss it a lot, never had any issues with it, but I broke the screen and it is not worth replacing.

Once again, Think Twice before purchasing it, don't listen to the JBHIFI "Specialist", they just want to sell this garbage before it will be out of market. (Know from experience).

Stick with HP, Apple(personally don't like it but runs smoothly), Acus or Dell.

"There is nothing good about the X500, besides the good look"

Thank you

X500 the experience – First of all. Would I buy another high end high spec machine from Toshiba? In short no. The laptop looks great but thats where the issues started, I bought this machine to run Traktor Pro DJ software, being a DJ Professional DJ the unit has to pay its way and work all the time (Yeah maybe a MAC next time). It failed to do that and… Read more

after repeated attempts I tried to return to product only to be told there is nothing wrong with it and the software maker Native Instruments should rewrite their software to suit the laptop!

After 12 months, of pain including upgrading the BIOS, HDDs, RAM, OS to Win7 64bit Ultimate Edition and reinstalling software/drivers I finally got the machine to work, and it has worked faultlessly since. 3 years later the Keyboard failed and was replaced, however that was surpirsing cheap at $115 from Toshiba. I must say the Toshiba Techs were always friendly even when they failed to fix/help the issues.

Lessor mortals might not have the same patience! Steer clear of this Laptop do you homework first and buy a Laptop which will suit your purposes. Looks great 2 HDDs plenty of storage, great screen size, backlit keys To expensive, failed to deliver what was promised, not sold with enough RAM, and the CPU should be easily replacable at this price.

Not happy Jan – Unit keeps crashing with driver error, now the touch pad does not work - am relying on wireless mouse. Bottom line - bitterly dissapointed, too expensive, am stuck with unit for a while, till lease runs out and would not consider another Toshiba unit. I think I was "conned" by sales staff- supprise, supprise, SUPPRISE. My fault. Looked good, was… Read more

supposed to be fast and suitable for CAD work - was not interested in games. Expensive and keeps crashing.

Hard drive died after a year, rescue disks dont work – Bought this to replace a dell desktop, should be lightning fast, but crippled by toshiba add ons. Hard drive died after a year, taking the os with it. Had to pay $300+ for repair. Went faster for a while, but quite disappointing. Screen is good, keyboard nice with backlighting, but the performance and reliability will have me returning to dell for… Read more

a replacement. Nice display and keyboard, good number pad. Expensive, slow, unreliable, crashes too often.

Good – In general, this is a really good, solid computer from Toshiba. I also had to upgrade from a Toshiba satellite that I had for about 4 years, but installation of newer programs was making it slow down quite a lot, so I needed to get something else from Toshiba. The Qosmio X500 seemed like the logical choice - it's big, it's powerful and it looks… Read more

good too. There are a few quirks that are not impressive - inadequate number of USB slots (only 3), system shutting down with weird fatal error when playing a game of solitaire and the volume/media player keys being too sensitive to the touch. It's a pretty powerful computer - screen resolution is brilliant, it's fast and everyone just envies me my new laptop! The volume key is too easy to accidentally touch and get the media player started (left side). I once had the laptop shut down with a "fatal error" when I was playing a game (solitaire). Looks like I had the same issues as another member, Jedda - our reviews could be identical! So it wasnt just for me it had issues. Not enough USB slots.

if you need a computer that simply does its job, buy another brand – this thing is a piece of rubbish and it cost a small fortune. I have owned many toshiba's in my time, about 6 and have been very loyal to the toshiba brand. I bought this computer because I thought maybe if i spend more money, I might finally get a descent one that doesnt breakdown. From the cheap version, to the expensive, the hardrive will only… Read more

last about a year before it burns out, the software doesnt seem to run properly, and not fancy gaming software just simple microsoft office and a basic web design programme. The unit will shutdown for no reason I am still yet to purchase a toshiba that just does its job without being an absoloute headf*%*k. I bought a very cheap laptop HP, for around $460 about two or three years ago to take on the road whilst traveling for work, never had a problem, I broke the screen on it once, got it fixed and it is still working almost a year later, Im writing this review on the HP because the toshiba has just decided to stop working, this is a $3000 machine that cant write a review and its just over a year old, needless to say this isnt the first time it stopped working, but this time is the last time im shelling out to get it fixed because it has now become cheaper to buy a new one, i'd feel more confident buying a different brand off EBAY second hand rather than buying another new toshiba of any kind. by by programmes and everything else I had on it unsaved. Im never buying a toshiba again. nice looking units. ultra smooth keyboards, backlit display is handy, screen quality is fantastic. buy another brand, toshiba is a waste of money. I thought they were suppose to be the best brand on the market and I was wrong.
