Glass cannon – As the other reviewers said, this laptop has hard drive issues. Replacing it with an SSD however did not solve my problems. I have had overheating issues plague the machine ever since I bought it, it will regularly switch off under load. It was reasonably powerful for the time, nice backlit keyboard, DVD-RW / Blu-Ray drive and 120 Hz monitor. Shame you can't use it for anything.  Show details

Great little 3D Laptop – I bought a Toshiba A665-3DV8 3D Laptop in June 2012 so I can watch my Home and Away in 3D, Edit Photos/Videos, Play Games, Surf the net, Use Microsoft Office 2010 Applications and more. Also you can take it away with you when you go away on holidays since it is portable, which makes it easy to carry with you. Fantastic 3D, Excellent design, Portable and Easy to use. Way to expensive

I like this but it always overheats – I love this laptop coz i spent $1300 in 2010 at Bing Lee with 1 year warranty. Hdd crashed 3 times in 4 years coz of over heating. Speed and other things are good. Now i bought laptop cooler and everything is alright. Now it is available for >$800 from toshiba website. speed and design over heating

Toshitba satellite A660/15J – Everything I have read on the help forums says these are a Bad unit :( It seems to be restricted to the HDD which appears to be dodgy at the best. I bought my new unit at the premium price of $1400 as it fitted my needs, external graphicss, 6gb ram etc etc. Within 2 weeks it was back to be serviced.... the HDD had failed. Now, almost… Read more

out of warranty and the drive has yet again departed this world, with ALL my info on it ::( Un-retrievable (without massive cost for pro-data retrieval) due to the type of drive error. speed, size, weight, external graphics and inbuilt tv tuner, plus everything worked lovely when it was working super shiny screen (extremely difficult on the eyes unless lighting was absolutely perfect), TOSHITBA Hdd's keep dying (3rd one now in just over a year), service contractors are useless, arguing with the first drive failure that it was virus related (yet the laptop had not even been connected to the internet at all and only had default sofware on it)

I ended up buying a SSD (Solid State Drive) as a replacement, $400 later and it is totally reliable… Read more

Hard drive failure, poor battery after 12 months – I bought this machine in early 2011. It seems I should have trusted a few of these reviews on this website before I purchsed this machine. The hard drive failed about 4 weeks outside of 12 month warranty. After battling with their customer service they refused to repair until I told them I would write this review, somehow this changed things… Read more

rather quickly. This machine is great for viewing Blurays, although screen quality is questionable at times. the battery would not allow you to watch a full movie though. The battery it reports is now in need of replacement. Although it is i7 and has reasonable RAM this machine is slow on start up compared with my wifes HP (at a third of the price). I have cleaned, tuned, defragged and done everything I could but the speed has only increased marginally. Also in-built modem has failed, now use external Wifi dongle. I expected a lot more from Toshiba, and unfortunately I think I will be looking elsewhere for next purchase. I previously had a Toshiba with work for about 18 months and it was reliable. I thought the network was slow but now question maybe it was the machine...... Bluray Player, 3D is cool, maybe a bit gimmicky? Hard Drive failure, poor battery life, internal modem failed, machine was quite expensive at the time, and expected much better quality and reliability. Poor service recovery.

Good service, shame about the quality of the lap-top – Bought an A660 after my HP died (a west highland white terrier and a glass of red wine is not a good combination to go through a laptop!). Pleased with the look, specs and the price of the A660. However it was all downhill from there - . This was as good as it got... like the previous reviewer the hard drive died at the four or five month… Read more

mark... while Toshiba were very helpful in replacing it FOC, its never worked properly since. Appears to be overloaded with Toshiba software which seems to interfere with everything! (And yes I reloaded software a couple of times and only had marginal success getting rid of the buggy useless Toshiba stuff - it seems to reload!).

I've never had so much trouble with a lap-top. So cannot recommend it under any circumstances and won't buy anything Toshiba again - sadly. The only reason I didn't give it one star was the good service from Toshiba when the hard drive died.

Back to Dell or HP for me - when I can afford it. Nice looking PC, good screen, good battery life Shame about the quality - very poor hard drive, buggy software which is hard to get rid of...

Great service, but crashed hard drive – Toshiba is not perfectly reliable, but excellent service. Hard drive crashed after 6 months. Very fast service, with courier paid for under warranty. Replacement hard drive meant I had to reload all my software and reconstruct files. Excellent service, very fast replacement of crashed hard drive Hard drive crashed when 6 months old
