TP-Link Tapo C420

Have had my Tapo C410 for half year or so now. Had it replaced once due to battery indicator always shows 100% full even when it's unplugged from the solar panel. Funny enough, the sensor on v1 is much better than v2 as the current one seems a bit fiddlier. Also I've lost two additional sensor function such as pet and car with v2. Overall, I think the product does what it's intended and for the price compared to well known brand such as Eufy, it is pretty decent.
There are others who have had bad experience with it, much like myself at the start but in the end it is working well.
I tried the 30days cloud storage which was good but decided to just use an internal storage. You can also get a Wifi Hub for more storage.
I also have a C100 (indoor camera) which also does the job for $29AUD on special from Amazon.
Purchased in at Amazon for $100.
Don’t waste your money – Three of four camera purchased 13 months ago do not work as they should. 2 x cameras lens covers have come away leaving the lens exposed and the camera no longer water proof. One cameras image has blurred for no reason and cannot be rectified. There is weird cracks on the lens as per the photos for unknown reasons. They worked great for first few months but after some time had issues. Unfortunately we were not at the property in time to take back for warranty claim as the 12 month warranty offered by Tapo had expired before finding issues.
Cameras are now 13 months old and 1 of the 4 purchased still operates as it should.
Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi for $289.
Really impressed – Really impressed. The ai feature is good and the hub can save the footage even if someone resets the camera which was the main reason I purchased. I just wish it could record 24/7
Amazing camera with awesome features! – It’s hard to know where to start with this. These cameras are exactly what I was looking for and this review comes after about 10mths of constant use. We moved at the start of the year to a larger property and quickly found we couldn’t hear cars when they arrived. With these cameras, we were able to set up alerts so that when a car drives down the driveway, it makes one of our hubs ring a tone. Basically like a door bell for cars. And a different tone for when it senses people. Even the super speedy AusPost scooter gets detected as he speeds into our carport most days. Even when away from home or down the back of the property, we can still get alerts on our phones.
The recording to the hub is really awesome. I like having everything there which can be reviewed via the app whenever you want it.
I do get the occasional false detection but adjusting sensitivity or trimming the overgrown offending bush will fix it. Using the camera’s AI to be able to mix and match what type of things the camera detects instead of “just movement” is super useful at weeding out superfluous detections.
The only down side I’ve had to these cameras came early in the piece after about a month. After an update, my two cameras went from detecting 95-100% of events to about half or less. It seemed to happen after an update. I contacted Tapo (TP-Link) and they were actually really helpful. In fact I was dealing directly one on one with the engineers to try and trouble shoot my issue. They were able to identify an issue with the previous update which they fixed quite quickly and the cameras were back to normal again. I mention this because issues with updates can and do happen occasionally with all manufacturers but it showed me how easy they were to work with and how focused they were on getting it right. For me, it’s not about companies never getting it wrong; it’s about how they act if they do. That’s why I’m still a loyal customer.
