Rabble of an Airline. Booked flights to Vietnam including domestic transfers. Issue 1 - reserved seat bookings not honoured. I am 195cm tall and recovering from knee surgery so I booked and paid for extra legroom for all trips. Check in a Melbourne and our reserved seats were reallocated to others. No notification, no voluntary refund. Issue 2-… Read more
domestic flights changed at very late notice meant needing to pay for a nights accommodation in Shanghai to enable a connecting flight also with Vietjet on the same booking. No compensation considered. Requested to escalate when on phone to their customer service, wouldn't transfer to line manager. Said that because they could offer a flight 24 hours later that they didn’t need to pay the accomodation. Have researched Vietnam rules in this and they are not compliant and will be taking this further Issue 3- Crazy long check in times at all points of departure. ( typically 45mins on the 4 check in’s we had) If you make the insane decision to fly with this company, pay for fast check in. With any luck, they may honour that.
I recently used VietJet for a family member travelling from Australia to Vietnam and was very disappointed with the overall experience. We paid extra to select a preferred seat in advance. However, at check-in we were informed that the seat had been changed because the aircraft had been replaced. While I understand that operational changes can… Read more
happen, I was surprised that there had been no prior notification and that the paid seat selection was not automatically transferred to an equivalent seat.
When I politely asked whether the seating arrangement could be reviewed, the response I received from the customer service staff was dismissive and unhelpful. Rather than attempting to assist or explain possible options, I was simply told that any complaint should be directed to the airline.
My main concern is not that the aircraft was changed, as operational issues can occur with any airline. The issue is how the situation was handled. If a paid service can no longer be provided, customers should be informed promptly and offered an appropriate solution or refund process without having to discover the problem themselves.
Based on this experience, I found VietJet’s customer service standards disappointing and below what I would expect from an international airline. Unfortunately, this experience has reduced my confidence in using the airline again in the future.
We arrived at the gate 55 minutes before departure, while the gate was scheduled to close 50 minutes prior. Despite being there before the stated cutoff, we were denied boarding. As a result, we purchased new tickets. At the check-in counter, the staff member recognized us from the earlier situation but instructed us to return later, saying… Read more
check-in for our new flight would only open at 12:45 PM, even though it was around 11:30 AM at the time.
We returned as requested. Once again, she recognized us but made no effort to assist or expedite the process. The overall interaction felt unnecessarily difficult and unhelpful. To make matters worse, the original flight we were denied boarding for eventually departed more than 3 hours late.
Unfortunately, this was another disappointing experience. Better customer service, communication, and flexibility would have made a significant difference.

Cheap Fare. Expensive Regret. The ticket might save you money. The experience will cost you patience, dignity, and peace of mind. I've never encountered staff who seemed so determined to turn a routine journey into an unpleasant one. By the end, I wasn't counting the hours until arrival. I was counting the minutes until I never had to deal with this airline again. Show details
One of the Most Degrading Travel Experiences I’ve Endured. Flying with VietJet was honestly a nightmare. After already paying extra for luggage, I was blindsided at the boarding gate with another fee over my backpack, despite passing check-in without issue. The experience was incredibly stressful and emotionally exhausting. Standing there under pressure, being treated with hostility while trying to board a flight, felt deeply degrading.
Instead of feeling like a customer, I felt like prey for opportunistic charges.
Then came the flight itself: awful food, no entertainment, no charging ports, cramped seating, and an overall experience that felt cold and uncaring from start to finish.
I’ve never stepped off a flight feeling so drained, frustrated, and disappointed in an airline.
One of the worst airline experiences I have had. VietJet weighed my carry-on at check-in and said nothing about my backpack. Then at the gate, staff aggressively demanded extra payment and threatened denied boarding. It felt completely unfair and incredibly stressful. The staff were rude, the food was poor, and the aircraft had no charging ports… Read more

The crew member stole my money while I was sleeping. I’m certain about this thing because she forced me to keep my bag on the baggage compartment while I was resisting it because I was carrying cash in my sling bag. checked my bag. The money was gone. I rushed back to the flight and asked him they were not responsive appropriately. They give me one reason saying we do not hold responsibility while it was one of them. They are thieves. Stole 2500$ Worst airline with zero customer service. It is very cheap to fly to Vietnam;Thu AM depart and Monday arrived back in Perth. Online checkin is a nightmare, I tried using PC and kept on coming up with error, that I have not paid for the tickets. I decided to use my iPhone and that work. I bought extra luggage and one meal. No charger on the flight, no wifi, seat is fairly small and hard.… Read more
For me I am short 161cm and small build I found the seat was not comfortable, bigger size person will find it harder. The meal is tiny for $12 and bland. However the airline did gave us a small drink. We were very lucky that our flight to VN was not from Perth, most of the week according to FlightAware there was a delay.
The worst part of using vietjet is the online checkin when it time to depart Vietnam, they have not allow tha facility using their app. That create a horrible experienced at the airport. We arrived 3 hours early and we were at least 250m from checkin counter G, the line snake around Tan Son Nhat. Another bad experience was landing, everyone on board need to squeeze in two shuttle buses so that they can carry you to the terminal from the tarmac
Vietjet not by choice, first visit to celebrate my wife's birthday. I trusted Expedia to sort out our itinerary by booking flights/hotel from Brisbane to Ho Chi Minh. First experience was trying to do online check-in within 24 hours as advised by Expedia and airline website. At 2 am, I tried again and error to check-in was "this is not supported".… Read more
I waited to retry and at 2:30 pm the flight day, I was finally able to check in. We arrived early to check-in counter and no delays here. Once on board, delayed flight just over 1 hour, still loading delay announcement within 20 minutes before departing. Then on board got served our first meal, vegetarian spicy rice/noodles. No other option available (Dogs breakfast, sorry). No entertainment available for 8 hour flight (willing to purchase but no option available). Drink service expect to pay cash, no to debit cards, credit cards (may accept depends on cabin crew too much effort) Return experience was horrible, unable to do online check-in again. I tried within 24 hours, did not work. I tried at 10 pm no luck, then I tried at 2 am again nothing. I tried at 6 am and no luck, I had to wait until the check-in counter. I advised the Vietjet ground staff, no apologies, did not care, just join the queue. We were given seats next to a smelly passenger and full flight for 8 hours, unable to change seats, I fell sick, lucky I wore a mask during the flight. Food service improved as this time there choices, so got chicken fried rice, better than incoming flight. I decided to purchase a drink, forget it too many rules, you can only do 1 purchase and pay in VND or AUD, lucky we had AUD $20 but they had no change, ready to get ripped off, a can of coke & a chocolate bar for AUD$10, bargain, so I ended with 2 drinks and 2 chocolate bars for AUD $20! In summary, if you are on budget, go Vietjet but do not expect a 5 star service!
TripAdvisor **Vietjet Air Review – India to Vietnam Route** ⭐⭐ (2/5) Flew Vietjet multiple times between India and Vietnam. hours feel standard, turning simple trips into ordeals. Ground staff at check-in counters and gates are abrupt and unhelpful, while cabin crew match that vibe with curt responses and zero warmth.
Onboard F&B is a hard pass—greasy, overpriced snacks not worth touching. And those "cheap" tickets? Add mandatory extras for seats, even basic luggage, and meals, and the total rivals fuller-service carriers. Save your money and patience elsewhere if possible. [2][9]
No screen in the flight. Tickets were messed up at the time of boarding, so separate seats from the connecting flights. International Delux paid, requested for little water as something stuck in my throat, they said they won't serve because it is served once and thats something made me give the rating, else I could live without the screen or boarding passes messed up. awaiting a refund for the difference in price. Only after 5 phone calls did they change our flight to the day prior but wait still no business class seats available. The aircraft are in terrible condition, with seats broken, tray tables snapped, arm rests with packing tape on them to mask the sharp edges. The trip home was terrible, while they have good check in allowances they weigh both check in and carry on at check in but here is where they get you. If you buy duty free they add that to your carry on weight and it generally tips u over the limit. My wife is a lawyer and Vietnamese so she spotted the scam straight away. The girl who weighs the carry on wanted cash only even though there is an eft machine with her and she seems to make numbers up in her head. Funny part is our combined carryon with duty free was 1.5kg over when weighed 1st time and when I asked to see it again it was 3.5kg over but when I demanded she zeros the scale it went down to 1.3kg. My wife calls her out as a scammer in Viet but it does not phase her. After speaking to other passengers they had identical things happen to them. What I realised later was in the gate staff told me not to check in a small carry on even though we had another 47kg allowance. Amazing how easy the people can scam u. I should have read the Trip adviser reviews before booking as so many people get the same scam. Don’t bother thinking the food they serve is fit for human consumption as I feed my dogs better quality foods, many passengers returned their meals including us, I listened to an Indian passenger tell the staff this food is less than dog food. To round up what happened we booked business, ended up in economy both ways, I’m arguing for a refund of the difference in airfares, the aircraft are in terrible shape, food is terrible and don't even think there is any decent service from ground or flight crew.

and 15 mins in total 2. While waiting, we asked if they could be priority checked in because of their elderly status and were emphatically told by a Vietjet attendant ( we believe his name was Legend) that they could not avail themselves of priority check in, even though Vietjet's own website says that they could use priority. Later told by checkin agent at baggage checkin that they were entitled to priority check in----way to late after waiting in line for over 3 hours. 3. Flight from Melbourne to Saigon was terrible.....no legroom for my elderly father who is 6ft 2" tall, flight attendants never smiled, were very abrasive, and the food (spagetti) was inedible. 4. Getting onto the plane, it was in a somewhat unclean condition, eg one seat had cream stains on the seat fabric, and we had rbbish still in back of the seat where we were sitting 5. My elderly father asked for a cup of hot water as he has problems with drinking cold water and was told in a very rude fashion he could not have a cup of warm to hot water....when we asked why the response was that it was "company policy" 6. Domestic flight from Saigon to Da Nang was the opposite....friendly and helpful attendants, clean aircraft and the food served was fine to eat. 7. Vietjet twice changed schedule for our domestic flight from Da Nang back to Saigon to connect with our international flight. Wash up was that we would miss our connecting flight so had to go to Vietjet counter at airport in da Nang to get them to sort it out. Outcome was that we had to take an earlier flight, meaning we had to get up at 2am in morning to have time to get to airport and check in for a new 5am departure. 8. Staff at the vietjet domestic counter were less than helpful or considerate, and in fact, the one male at the counter (around 4pm on Friday 13th Feb) was outright rude and even yelled at my elderly father). 9. Asked if we could buy an upgrade back to Melbourne and were told that it would cost us $2,500AU each to get upgraded, even though the whole return ticket was only $808au. Queried this and were told thats it, take it or leaveit. 10. Asked to speak to a manager as we were very dissatisfied with thier cavalier and non customer focussed attitude and were told they would not ask a manager to come see us. Said this was not acceptable but they would not call amanger to talk with us.
If you have not already understood that this is an airline you should never fly with, then let me say that we will never fly with Vietjet airlines again and highly recommend that others also stay clear of them. Worst airline we have ever flown with.

What a disgrace of an airline. This airline kept on changing one of my flight bookings and didn’t tell me only last minute. Very hard to contact customer service and very unreliable. Also I had to Pay extra to repurchase the change of times, which is wrong since they changed the flight times not me Will never fly with this airline again
Avoid. I was charged x3 time for the same seats even before I got to the airport. I continual phoned and emailed from inside Vietnam to try to resolve issue. Response was another payment link with no seat. In the end my Vietnamese wife went to airport to complain. Obtained seats but were x3 times out of pocket. No wonder they make money by conning people. Flights were late. Better to book with a reputable airline.

We needed to change our return flight due to an illness they charged us an extra $760 AUD on top of our original ticket… This was my 5th trip to Vietnam and will be my last with Vietjet. We needed to change our flight with Vietnam Airlines and the experience couldn’t have been any more different… no charge… great service… lovely cabin crew… when they found out I was still not well they upgraded us… Unless you’re backpacking spend a little extra… we used vietjet as its the only direct flight from BNE but we will fly Singapore next time. there is no in flight entertainment. The cabin crew were polite and helpful. The problem with VietJet is their ground and ticketing processes. The check in is an absolute nightmare – instead of checking in certain flights, they just check in every VietJet flight at the same time. I’ve never seen queues like the ones I saw at their check in counters or the level of inefficiency. Then they have a scam where they issue tickets in just your first and last names, even though you provided names as per the passport when you purchased the tickets. Its an extra $4 or $5 each to ‘fix’ the tickets for security, even though VietJet are the ones that printed the wrong details. The ground supervisors we dealt with couldn’t have been less helpful or cared less whether passengers made their flights or not. Luckily one of our flights was only delayed by a few hours. We made our international flight home literally by sprinting to the gate and flagging down the gate staff as the bus was about to pull away. Some other passengers we spoke to had flights delayed by many hours and had to re-book their whole schedules. Not a lot of help from the ground staff from what we observed. Looked like a lot of passengers had their travel plans ruined. We felt sorry for them but couldn’t wait to get out ourselves. VietJet is an embarrassment to the wonderful country of Vietnam and its awesome people. VietJet has had many years to fix their processes and have failed to do so. Maybe the government or the regulator should step in and insist that they improve. I know not to expect the world when you are not flying with a real airline like Cathay Pacific, Emirates or Singapore Airlines but surely there is a basic level of punctuality and customer service that applies with any airline, even if fares are significantly cheaper. With the benefit of hindsight, I’ll pay the extra in future and avoid the problems with VietJet.
Absolutely unacceptable experience. Flight VJ081 on 11 February from Ahmedabad to Melbourne (via Vietnam) was delayed, and upon arrival passengers were informed that baggage had not been transferred to the flight. there is still no baggage, no proper update, and no clear communication. The most frustrating part is that customer care numbers are not reachable. Repeated attempts to contact the airline have failed. There is no transparency, no accountability, and no urgency shown in resolving the issue. A refund of AUD 30 for such a serious inconvenience is completely inadequate and feels dismissive. Essential belongings are missing, yet there is no proper assistance or support being provided. This reflects extremely poor baggage management and highly unprofessional customer service. Very disappointing experience. Would not recommend.

connecting flight via Ho Chi Minh City shortly before departure. Since our hotels and tours were already prepaid, we had no choice but to accept a service that was materially inferior to what we purchased.
The new itinerary forced us into a 5-hour transit. Due to additional delays, our total journey time was more than double the original flight. Having to re-claim and re-check baggage during transit caused significant distress and exhaustion for my family.
During our return transit, we were incorrectly charged for excess cabin baggage. While our actual excess was only 4 kg (25 kg total minus a 21 kg allowance), the staff charged us for 6 kg. Despite requesting a correction on the spot, no resolution was provided.
While my experience with the people of Vietnam was positive, VietJet Air was deeply disappointing. The airline lacks transparency and fails to honor confirmed bookings. I have formally requested a refund and flight credit, and I will be escalating this to Australian Fair Trading if not resolved.
We end up taking vietjet for the last 3 years, just because it was substantially cheaper and each we swear that we will never travel by the same airlines ever again.
