Westinghouse PXN688S / PXN688W

Timer keeps getting reset to 12:00 – I have recently moved to a house which has a PXN688W*40 installed. Off late the timer on the oven keeps resetting to 12:00 and starts buzzing. If I hit the reset button, the time starts from 12:00 and resets after some time to repeat the whole thing. Any solution Electrolux or fellow members? Show details
An oven in name only – Good oven if you only want something to cook frozen chips etc. Useless for baking and roasts. Very slow to cook at normal settings and burns everything if you turn it up even a little. Poor temperature control and uneven heat distribution. Only saving grace is that it has never failed, except to cook. To call this thing an oven is an overstatement. Time to replace it but probably not with another Westinghouse.
Not the best oven if you love to cook – I loved the look of the oven and the simplicity of the user functions and bought it when we modernised our kitchen to replace our old Westinghouse oven. I have to say the majority of the things I cook are a disappointment. It doesn't brown/or crisp food properly. It seems to steam things like potato wedges and roast vegetables etc. everything… Read more
takes longer to cook. I find I need to turn the thermostat up constantly and baked goods cook unevenly. My 20 year old oven was a dream in comparison.
Not the best oven – I've had this oven for years and it's always been a disappointment but I only just thought of checking other reviews. I have the fan forced freestyle 688 wall oven. It has always cooked unevenly, which makes no sense as it's fan forced. The internal light died within weeks if installation. LOTS of air blows out above the door, making the handle… Read more
hot. I hang my tea towels in front and they dry in 2 mins. It's not so hot that it burns but it's still odd and it's noisy. The double glass makes the door permanently dirty. I don't recommend it.
Been OK up to now – Had oven for four years. Generally been good. However, the grill is now either off or FULL on. No intermediate settings. Luckily I stopped cooking when I smelled burning. No intermediate setting does anything other than full on. Think the problem is most likely the switch. Seeing the price of these, will probably buy a new oven...not the same.
A delight – Just used this oven for the first time to cook the Xmas turkey and it was perfect ( as voted by the family) Cooking time was spot on and it did not make the kitchen into a sauna. Very happy with the results. Show 2 replies
Worst oven I have ever owned ! – It does not cook evenly - hot spots no matter where you place anything that you are trying to cook.Grill does not pull out all the way to allow you to place items for cooking. Our main problem with this oven is that it does not cook evenly as sold as a FAN OVEN. I would say to anyone steer clear . Nothing Everything that you want you do not get with this oven.
Woeful – I moved to a house with this oven. It is the worst oven I've ever had. I would never buy another Westinghouse oven. Can't wait til I can afford to replace it. It burns everything! Put a cake in that is supposed to cook for 30 mins and its burnt after 15. I had the thermostat replaced thinking that may be the issue but no it still burns everything. I HATE it!!! Nothing Doesn't do the one thing it's designed to do. COOK
Also wanted to add that I work in sales at one of the top builders in Sydney and tell everyone how bad this oven is.
Terrible Oven – I also have inherited this oven with the house. Doesn't keep to temperature, you have no options for fan forced/oven bake etc. I have to increase the temperature way up high. It cooks uneven. I have the gas cooktop which is excellent the oven component is just woeful. I had a Westinghouse oven in my previous house was a lot better oven, so disappointed Doesn't keep the right temperature.

Does the trick !!! – Inherited this oven when we bought the house. Can't fault it, has worked fine over the last 6 months, meals are good, temperature regulation works well, functions are useful, size is good, easy to use and easy to clean what more do you want in a wall oven? Thank you westing house, Show reply
Terrible – I have had this oven for 6mths and the glass shattered last week while reheating food on only 150 would have thought they would replace the oven but no just the glass has taken me 3 days to remove glass from kitchen and grill. Not much now Shattered glass
Terrible – This appliance is a joke. It will not cook evenly and is difficult to regulate the heat. It is definitely an unreliable product that is bound to break down as soon as it is out of warranty. DON'T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BUY ONE. Absolutely none at all This is a dangerous appliance. The inner glass shattered and we were extremely fortunate that no one was hurt. The glass shattered after ONLY one week.
Terrible – I have had this oven for 2mths and the glass shattered two weeks ago. Customer service what a joke, they don't give a dam, still waiting for the glass to be replaced, had to move my son's 21st birthday party to another location as westinghouse promised the oven would be fixed in time and then never even bothered to call me to tell me they wern't coming. The outside is easily cleaned Everything to do with Westinghouse.

Know better, choose better.
Terrible – Do not buy this oven as it will just piss you off. Get a different brand. Price and looks arent everything. There is a clock on it. Doesnt cook properly. Takes way to long to cook any type of food which is really frustating. Took three hours to cook a one hour roast. Cooks unevenly.
Terrible – The vent is at the top and front of the oven hence all the warm to hot air blows directly on your face as you put in or take out of the oven and then also directly into the kitchen. Not made for Australian homes. Would never buy again. Looks good. The VENT is at the front of the oven.
The vent is at the front of nearly every oven! How else do you get hot air out of the cabinet space?
Terrible – Had it 8 months and it's just blown the thermostat and oven element in a big way. I mean a real meltdown of the element and electrical burns inside the back cover. This thing is dangerous STAY AWAY! Doesn't have any
Terrible – I am steering well clear of this brand (did you know Simpson and Westinghouse are owned and made by the same people in Australia...). The range hood has also just died out of warranty. Ovens aren't made to last anymore... be wary of project homes...we are on a steep learning curve replacing things in a home 3 yrs old. Nothing really the bbq… Read more
works better! It burns everything. I mean everything. The bottom of the dish burns anytime you cook anything on any shelf from 150 degrees up. I hated it to start with then it blew up in April when I heated up a loaf of bread on 150. What do you know it is also just out of warranty. The grill burns everything pretty much instantly.
OK – Ok product for the money, the front can be kept reasonably clean by using S/steel Kleen once every month. I doubt that I'd buy it again. Looked good when I bought it Heat not distributing evenly
Terrible – I will never buy another Westinghouse oven. We have had less than 5 years service out of this one. It has put me off Westinghouse products altogether. Looked good when we bought it Inconsistent heat. The oven seal disintegrated and the escaping heat blackened the surrounding cabinet.
Bad – Had it for just over a year and the Inner glass shattered and westinghouse wanted a fortune for a repairer to come have a look so i bought a whole new door and fitted myself i think it was about $120.00.im sure it will happen again. It cooks. Glass shattering
