This fridge/freezer has done me and my young family well for 4 years. Woke up Friday morning to find the freezer was not cold and icypoles/ice creams had completely melted and fridge section was not cold either. Lucky had a very freezer in the shed so got that out and cleaned and most of the meats, etc placed in there. Moved majority of fridge… Read more

items into 2 esky's and have had to purchase ice. Unfortunately contacting Westinghouse/Electrolux customer section only to be advised that they could not do anything and that I would need to get it repaired/assessed. Not professional and when you pay a large amount of money for a product that should last at least 10 years if well looked after and cleaned. Unfortunately been the end of the week after calling a dozen technicians earliest I could get technicians out was not until Monday or paying very expensive call out fees for the weekend. A couple of technicians after discussions advised that this particular fridge/model has had many issues and I would be paying close to 1000 minimum whether it was electrical, compressor, leak, etc with labour, call out and parts. they recommended it was best just to purchase a new fridge. Went and did that Friday afternoon but earliest I could get delivery for a new fridge in Adelaide was Monday.

After the majority of reviews I have seen, I would recommend that this product does not last for what should be a lifetime of 10 years, especially with cost of living. Will be looking at contacting Consumer Affairs about this.

The fridge is only a few years old and freezes food no matter what temperature setting you set. It's noisy and although it still 'works' I am looking for a new one as I'm sick of having to throw good food away.

the WSE6200SA has already broken after only 8 years, (2018 to 2026) repairer said it needs a new compressor and too expensive to fix. I previously bought the WSE6100SF in 2013 and it is still going in 2026, that's over 13 years old and still going. Doesn't look like its a good idea to buy westinghouse anymore, they are not lasting long anymore . Show details

After 13 years of use the plastics are falling appart – I appreciate this review may not help those looking at this fridge, it was superseded many years ago, however the comments around durability and ongoing use may help others. Firstly, we bought this in Jan 2004. I know this because the receipt was attached to the back of the fridge. A tip for all purchasers....this saves you when you need to make a… Read more

warranty claim. In my case, no warranty claims were needed. Function; The positives, The fridge has functioned OK, without breaking down for over 15 years. Lower drawers with crisper feature works well, extending life of vegies and fruit, after a bit of trial and error. The negatives, food at the back of the fridge gets iced up. The actual width and depth has made it difficult to naturally see all available food, resulting in bags of watery rotten salad found every so often. The plastic shelves, and clips that hold the indoor shelves are not durable. Anything heavy that drops onto a plastic shelf will crack the shelf. The lowest door hanging shelf connects to the door via a slot and groove (dovetail type) arrangement. These have cracked and potentially made the bottom shelf unusable. The cracks worsened when heavy bottles (3 it milk) was placed their.

The freezer, mostly OK other than(as above) the narrow design makes it a bit difficult to identify foods.

Conclusion; I feel our next fridge may be a typical vertical, top bottom configuration rather than side by side. Alternatively we may look for a wider unit. I will be particular mindful of the door shelf interface. Plastic grooves formed into the thin plastic door inner liner....not a good move. Fridge basic function and durability means I would consider future Westinghouse products.

Pros and Cons of a good fridge – Pros… This is a good set-and-forget fridge, both fridge and freezer work very well. Sharp angles give a large and imposing impression however the semi-gloss finish seems to tone down its size a bit. Fridge maintains temperature accurately and freezer freezes very quickly. The large handles make it easy for anyone to open the doors regardless… Read more

of their height.

Very quiet, but occasionally goes through a slightly noisier cycle however it’s not too noticeable.

Made in china doesn’t seem to be a negative, the fridge seems good quality.

This side-by-side fridge gives you slightly more freezer volume comparatively as side-by-sides do and this is the reason I bought it.

After 18 months of operation there are absolutely no major complaints so far.

Cons…

Large and very heavy makes it difficult to move. Don’t buy this fridge if you move house a lot. Get a pigeon pair instead.

Fridge thermostat has a minimum temperature of two degrees but this is satisfactory and it maintains temperature very well. This prevents you freezing your lettuce I guess. (Maybe this should be in “pros” above)

The fridge door has wide shelves so that when you open the door and reach in, its possible to bash your elbow painfully on one of the shelves when pulling your arm out. (Ask me how I know). This is especially relevant for right-handers as this doesn’t seem to be a problem when reaching past the even narrower freezer door.

Items such as frozen meat can fall out easily and land very painfully on toes (again, ask me how I know) as there is no drop-down door on any of the upper shelves. This limits the amount that you can practically stack in as it all tends to be fairly slippery.

I removed the ice tray as it just took up too much room and seemed frivolous and impractical anyway. But that is subjective; you may feel it’s quite useful.

As this fridge is quite big I have positioned it back against the wall to maximize space in the room. This means that the doors don’t gravity close as it’s fairly upright. However the door alarm works well and it’s good to be able to open the door and do what you have to without the door constantly swinging against you.

Very happy with both layout performance – We purchased this fridge 4 months ago to replace a small box freezer and stand alone fridge. Initially I crossed this off my comparison list as it had one of the highest rating for noise from CHOICE. But when I actually examined my short list of 3 fridges I found I really preferred the set up and the larger freezer space so I changed my mind. … Read more

A good decision, the noise level is not bad at all especially like all electrical appliances you get used to it. I cannot fault the performance it maintains temperature really well even when grandchildren are in and out of it more frequently than we are.

Love the side by side especially as we're getting older its so much easier to access. The freezer is a dream to access, easy to find everything and the crisper drawers are excellent at keeping items fresh over the course of a week. Most happy with overall performance.

A small negative I would have liked to get an extra door shelf for the freezer side but found the cost quite high.

CL error with freezer – 4 yrs old fridge , CL code with freezer no longer working, apparently quite a few others have similar problem. Told by Westinghouse its out of warranty and quoted its broken because "its working 24 hours a day". I'm sure it's my fault I leave the fridge on all the time, maybe for my future fridge I should only have it on 3 hours a day. Would not buy from Westinghouse again. Show details

Never buying Westinghouse again – It seems like as many other reviewers have said here, these fridges only last 5-6 years. CL error has shown and we've just thrown out the whole freezer side worth of food. The top section had always been iced up since new as well and couldn't be used. Such a shame as our previous one lasted well over 15 years. Show details

Don't Last – After 5.5 years the centre partition was getting too hot to touch. Got Service out and they said a not uncommon problem with them. Would cost $1100 to fix - flush pipes replace compressor etc. Units are not designed to last more than 5-6 years it appears. Poor Value. Show details

Design fault? – We bought our side-by-side, stainless steel Westinghouse fridge (WSE6200SA) in late 2018. In October 2021, we had it repaired because of 'error code CL' flashing on the display screen. This seems to relate to either the filter being clogged/dirty or the fridge not holding its temperature because of a gas leak. The repairman could not find the leak… Read more

and so he applied a sealant to try and plug it. Judging from online comments this CL error code seems to be a pretty common problem with these Westinghouse models. The CL error code has come up again and our food is now defrosting in the freezer. I guess I will need to get the repair man out again to fix the same issue! Modern fridges should be more durable than this and certainly should not conk out within 5 years. I doubt I will buy a Westinghouse product again, I am now questioning the quality of their products.

Great fridge/freezer... except for the ice situation – Bought this about 8 or 9 months ago and have been quite happy with it. The temperature seems to be quite consistent throughout and food lasts well. The freezer is nice and cold and the temperature display on the outside is handy. Not very good - lots of design faults – I spent a few weeks searching for a replacement for the previous model fridge with the leaking tar. This new model is a real disappointment.
