Westinghouse WVE6525SD

Westinghouse WVE-6525SD oven glass exploded for no apparent reason. Built a new home and installed all Westinghouse kitchen electric appliances. 90cm ceramic cook top, 90cm canopy rangehood and a 60cm multifunction 8/5 duo oven Mod: WVE-6525SD. Well, the ovens are made in Australia, aren’t they. All up cost $2,843 plus installation on top. This model oven is still current at 2/02/2026. The front exterior glass panel of the main oven just exploded for no apparent reason and it was not turned on at the time. My wife heard a noise just after midnight. No one was up. Next morning found glass all over the floor. Some pieces landed 3 meters away (measured) on top of the island bench. The oven was 21 days outside of the warranty period but I contacted Westinghouse anyway on 7/01/2026. Got the usual email reply “We would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Please note that your unit is currently out of warranty” Ticket No. 12293076. Well, I was not happy with that. The exterior front glass panel is not considered to be a “wear and tear” part that needs periodic replacement. It is part of the oven that should last the life of the unit. I responded to Westinghouse mentioning guidelines from the ACCC that regardless of the warranty period you are guaranteed that the product you have purchased will be of acceptable quality, match its description and do what a business tells you it can do. If it doesn’t you are entitled to a free repair for a minor problem, or a replacement or refund for anything major. In a second email reply from Westinghouse, they advised “We can schedule a service appointment for your product under an out of warranty claim”. I thought good, they are going to have a look into the problem. A few days later I received another email basically stating your appliance is no longer covered by warranty and contact the local service agent. The main oven door comprises three panels of glass. The two inner panels contain most of the heat. The exterior glass panel does not get very hot at all. This panel is only 4mm thick and is glued to two hard plastic rails, one on each side that fit over the hinges. The two inner panels just sit in the plastic rails allowing for movement. The front exterior glass holds the door together along with the solid aluminium handle. Every time the oven door is opened there must be some forces exerted on the exterior glass. If you are contemplating the purchase of a Westinghouse oven my advice would be to ditch the idea and go for a more expensive up market brand. Hopefully it would be of better quality and not give the problem I have incurred.
