My LM3 chlorinator will no longer produce chlorine, it is 12 months old and the pool is balanced with correct salt levels. The cell has no buildup of calcium but has turned black. All the lights are working indicating that chlorine is being produced.

The lm3-24 chlorinator turns on and seems to operate but I can't change the output from the orange light and can't set the date and time or timer. We have just replaced the actual cell.

We also had this problem, and replaced the cell. Our unit was replaced under warranty as jt couldn’t be repaired, and then 12 months later (maybe jussttttt 13?), the replacement unit did exactly the same thing!!

Before giving up on the last unit we tried a new cell as well as a new yellow cell plug and cable. No help. I was advised it is the board, which to replace isn’t much less than an entire unit.

I contacted zodiac, they refused to repair it as it was out of warranty.

Complete sham. We had 3 zodiac LM3 units, all 3 did the same thing. Never again.

Our LM3-24 is quite a few years old. Has lately only produced chlorine randomly. Have checked output from the power unit and when on, it is showing 17 volts going to the cell. Is that adequate power to activate the cell, and if so is it worth trying a replacement cell. Thanks.

I have a problem with my chlorinator , not sure if it may be operator error. The cell seems to be working as I can put it into super chlorinate mode and all the green indicator lights on the chlorine output are illuminated . The problem is that after the 24 hour cycle is finished I cannot raise the chlorine output, all I can see is the yellow indicator lamp on the left side illuminated . There are no indications of other causes , tyhe Check Salt and No Flow lamps are not illuminated and the salt level is higher than required. Any thoughts? Peter.

Why does my the plug of my new Zodiac LM3 Salt Chlorinator finish in the wrong place on the housing putting pressure on the wire? I had to angle grind out a recess in the screw on housing for the wire so the plug could be driven home. Robert

I have a LM3 The yellow plug is stuck on the 3 chlorinator cell terminals. Won't budge at all. I want to replace the actual wall unit but can't because the plug won't move! It now looks like I will be forced to additionally buy a new cell but this one is not even 12 months old. What do I do

I have a Zodiac LM3. I was away for 3 months and my wife did not keep the chemicals up. The electrode was totally encased in a calcium build up. I bought a new electrode and stabilized the water chemistry. I noticed that the low salt light comes on and the green chlorine production lights go out and one yellow light comes on. I can press the hidden button behind the 3 in LM3 and the low salt light goes out and the green lights come back on. But within a day it reverts back to low salt on and one yellow light for chlorine production level. The pool has about 6000 ppm salt tested in the pool shop. How can I fix this? Thank you, Glen

You could check the pin terminals in the yellow plug, they have a tendency to get damaged cause they weld themselves in and you could easily break one when you unplug the unit or they just may not be making good contact. Or your salt level may just be too high, it is only meant to run at 4000ppm, more salt more conductivity more current, could just be tripping out on overload. Or if you used stabilizer, it is acidic & if pH is too low unit could be dragging more current also, tripping it out.

I'm so disappointed with my lm3.. I had one about 20 years ago and it was brilliant. Put a new pool in and got another lm3 about 3 years ago and been nothing but a headache.. Had to replace the face cover and pch and now have to reset it every other day so it will produce chlorine. Can't get any proper answers from anyone, including zodiac. Think I will scrap it this year and buy a different brand.

Yep i bought a gold coast manufacturer chlorinator and it was cheaper. Best thing i have done the pool looks great and it works flawlessly

The on/off button on my LM3-40 is bubbled and cracked, so you can not turn on or off. The chlorinator works through the timer. Could you please advise if I need a new Cover sticker or new board also.

ringy_35
ringy_35

Yes, that will be what you are chasing. I had the same issue but with a different button which would not allow me to set the timer. The supplied sticker is not UV stable, it cracks and allows moisture to enter and corrodes the electronics, zodiac will not acknowledge this. I sourced my own replacement PCB controller and sticker off ebay and replaced the parts myself as I am an Electrician. I could not get any assistance from zodiac at all. The sticker replacement is the hardest part as it is not easily removed. I used a flap disk on a grinder. $150. I hope this helps

My zodiac lm3 has just hit 5 years now and the unit only works on super chlorinate mode. Otherwise when it’s “on” in normal mode nothings happening. Do I need to replace the board? Thanks

You should probably call Zodiac and ask them.

Zodiac
Zodiac   DM

Hi Ca555, Is there a check salt light appearing on the display? If so, Id recommend you test your salinity levels and add salt if necessary. You could also try resetting your time periods and clock to ensure they are accurate but If the problem persists this may require a new pcb board. please reach out to our technical team for further assistance.

Does the Zodiac LM3 control the pool Pump? Via its timer, does it have a 240volt female 3 pin plug for the pump to be connected, to? I have a Hulcon system that was fitted about 15 yrs ago 'VX7 and it's controller, it was set to control the pool Pump and amount of hour it ran etc, the system no longer works, and I was looking at the Zodiac system to take its place,. Also, how does the Cell connect to the pipes, 'the Hurlcon vx7 is connected from the bottom via two treaded and large flange nuts, I can't find a picture of the Zodiac cell's underneath, thanks. Thank you for any assistance. Regards Frank

Lestraw
Lestraw

Yes it does control the pump. Yes it connects to the pipes as per other cells but the exact size/spacing in relation to your current setup may not be identical. I have had one for 5 years on my 75,000 litre pool - works awesome - external link

Zodiac LM3 Chlorinator new 2008, cell replaced about 3 years ago. Starting to give false readings and not correctly control chlorine, suggesting the control unit may require replacement. Is it worthwhile replacing the main control unit, or is it more effective/less costly to buy a complete new system. The pool is concrete/pebblecrete in ground, capacity 35,000 litres

I have a Zodiac LM3 salt water chlorinator. Has been working well for many years. Just lately it will turn itself to minimum (steady yellow light) and the low salt comes on as well. Just checked the cell and the salt level is just under the 6000. I can get it to work again by pressing the superchlorinate button, but I can't always be there to do that. Any suggestions? Dave

Peter
Peter

Hi Dave, did you fix your chlorinator? I seem to be having the same issue.

Dave
Dave

No, i couldn't fix so I ended up buying a new unit -different brand box and cell. I think it was in the box and with its age , probably not worth fixing.

Good luck with yours
