too far away and the other said they couldn’t look at for 3 mths and when they do come out she will be responsible for the call out fee and the labour because LG will only cover to pay the parts. LG just keep saying I’ll get someone to call you back but they never do. LG has the worst warranty service or lack there of, we have expected. It is rediculous that a fridge of this price point has such poor customer service and little to no warranty service. My elderly mother had to go purchase a brand new fridge (NOT AN LG) because of LGpoor warranty and service. DO NOT BUY LG. There is no longevity in the brand and definitely no customer service."

Vibration & inverted handle fault – Good fridge freezer but has a few faults. Water and ice maker, although a little noisey has always worked well. 1 - random vibration after a couple of years is very loud. 2 - cup style handles in the doors are a fault - any liquid accidentally split in these does not drain but does somehow seep through and rust the outter lining surrounding the handle. LG fridge linear compressor noise – Fridge has started making a loud humming noise and is approximately 5 years old. It's looking like it's the linear compressor in the unit. These seem to be a common failure point within the unit. Even if LG cover the parts this is still an expensive repair. Dreadful non help from LG – 5D906SL had problems from day one, never been able to freeze ice cream, tech told us we should use the top shelves as it might block the vents, we never did and it still didn’t freeze ice cream! We had trouble with making ice and water replaced the filter ( genuine ) every 6 months. It’s now in its 5th year has a ten year compressor warranty parts… Read more

only. Freezer died all together, contacted LG who gave us a name to contact to repair it, they soon worked out it was ready for the tip! Contacted LG by email, by phone on different pages! Crickets that all I got , finally someone contacted me, after sending review from recommended repair and serial numbers and purchase receipt, still no reply. I would never recommend buying a LG FB is full of people having the same response from LG nothing. If you need one buy extra warranty.

High expectations but failed after 4 years – It started with water leaking out of the ice maker. Opened the freezer door and noticed everything defrosting. Ran the diagnostic app and it said everything was working. Pulled all the food out, Vacuumed the back vents to make sure air flow was good. come out and they think there are broken wires in the left door causing the compressor to go haywire plus the internal lights started flickering which was new. So waiting for a quote not sure if its worth fixing.

Update: After 3 attempts to fix it and seven weeks waiting LG gave me a store credit refund too purchase a replacement. I have purchased another LG fridge because they did the right thing by me.

4yrs of life only – Fridge worked well for 4 yrs and suddenly died. The display said temps were ok but it wouldn’t even connect to the internet and self diagnose ( previously worked). Lost a lot of food. Ice maker died first then the motor got loud working hard. Clearly crashes fast and furiously. Prob go for more reliable brands like whirlpool next as I expect more than 4 years for that sort of money. Show details

be heard loudly at all hours, waking us and our children. We can disable the ice maker, but what a waste of massive freezer space for a useless ice maker. The other thing you can’t tell at the store: the flow rate of the water dispenser is awful. You’ll stand there for 3 minutes to fill two normal glasses of water. I’d thought maybe that was the norm, but have now seen so many others that do this right.

I used to have a favourable view of LG, and tend to their offerings (I also have an LG TV and solar panels). But it’s to the point that I’m likely going to have to buy a new fridge to replace my 1 year old one. I can’t see it ever being an LG now, for fear of falling into this situation again. Sleep is too important.

I wish there was some way to undo this - at least I’m glad to see it isn’t being retailed anymore and I hope others avoid this same fate with the new models.

bottom groove, no under cling, which because im tall makes it harder to reach down to open .Not alot of shelf space compared to previous fridges

Major Cons Thermostat is inaccurate, we set to 4c but after a few weeks noticed mold on some foods and milk not expected temp, tested with multiple thermometers, both in crisper, chilled water and air, temperature was actually 8c. Set fridge to 1c and living with it. The crisper doesn't keep vegetables crisp, most of our carrots and beans become limp within a few days, tried the old trick of adding a glass of water, nothing works, our vegetables are always limp and rubbery

Nice fridge but the noise is such a disappointment – I like everything about this fridge but the water pump is just so disappointing. Not What It Appears – Have just taken delivery of this fridge, looks great but there are two design flaws. Firstly, the unplumbed water dispenser has a lot of tubing from the reservoir to the dispenser that runs outside the fridge so when water is dispensed, it is warmer than room temperature because the rear of the fridge heats it up. reservoir fouls against the glass shelf above even when the reservoir is pulled out, (quite unlike the diagram in the handbook). Why don't people who design these things actually test them in real life? Quite a noisy fridge to have near a living or sleeping area.

Way too loud – I would never have brought this fridge if I had known how loud the water pump is. We have hardwood floors and the sound echoes all over the house, enough to wake us when the pump operates during the night. is working from home next to the kitchen and he can hear the sound of someone dispensing water through his noise-cancelling headphones. In addition, one of the plastic drawer covers in the freezer cracked in the first week we had it. Not happy.

out the window and check the engines if you were on an airplane. We had a lot of trouble getting a response from LG Support, or a repair person out. It took about a month of A Current Affair-style dramas in the end. The repair person said the mechanics of the fridge had all frozen up inside. He took it apart, chipped out all the ice, and recommended we turn the temperature up a degree or two in both the freezer and the fridge. Which we did. ----------------------------------- Then, at the start of summer this year, the same grinding, whirring noise began again. With a heavy heart and a sense of déjà vu we contacted LG, who went ten days without offering any help. With LG about as useful as a screen door on a submarine, we resorted to defrosting the entire fridge to try and melt the ice buildup in the workings. This took one and a half days of keeping groceries in eskies in the garage, mopping up with towels on the kitchen floor, and general inconvenience during the season when a fridge is most important.

Luckily the defrost seems to have worked, but as the sting in the tail, two days after we did it LG bothered to call back. ----------------------------------- So congratulations LG, you've re-invented 1950s fridge technology and customer service! Your customers can look forward to happy times defrosting their 'modern' fridge each year.

The old fridge we replaced ran for 10 years without any need for defrosting, or loud noises, or malfunctions. I sometimes like awake at night wondering why we replaced it.

Oh, and one last thing. Afterward we found the ice in the ice dispenser hadn't melted like the rest. It had formed a solid ice core in the dispenser's tube that we had to chip out laboriously, like an olden days miner with a pick. ----------------------------------- I would really encourage any purchaser of an LG product to think long and hard - because their customer service and response times here in Australia are third-world.

PROS • Large enough for a family of 4 • Water & ice dispenser is handy • Temp controls easy to use • Deep door drawers on fridge side • Spacious crisper drawers

CONS • Fridge door always wants to swing completely open with a jolt, rather than staying in place. Annoying. • Water dispenser reservoir can be fiddly to fill. • Minimal freezer door drawers due to water dispenser.

Love it! BUTT – We just have our fridge now 3 days, but its taking tooo long to make Ice! We dont care about the noise but it makes about 12 - 18 cubes ice at night and 12- 18 in day time? We thought it would make it quicker it is like its taking too long to tip the ice out. Thats the only problem we have so far. Show details

Holy cow, I love this fridge – This is my first fridge with a water dispenser, and I freaking love it! Water/ ice dispenser has changed my life, and I now drink a lot more water and far less sugar garbage because it's icy, and it's right there. really drew me to this was the internal design and dimensions.

I went with a side by side because the freezer on top-mounted fridges is always too small, modern bottom-mounted freezers are too big and mostly drawers, rather than doors which you inevitably have to dig through, and French door fridges make an irritating noise when you open them.

The shelves in the door of the LG are deep and can store a lot of stuff, which makes them handy. It also makes the shelves in the fridge slightly shallower and easier to reach the back. This is hands down the best designed side by side I looked at.

In terms of performance, it seems to work really well, temperature can be set for both fridge and freezer, so if you like your icecream slightly softer, you can easily turn the temperature on the freezer up a bit without affecting your fridge. It has also never frozen the stuff at the back of the fridge trying to keep the front cold, so temperature seems to be pretty even across all the compartments in the fridge. And since I bought this my electricity bill has actually gone down - granted my last fridge was old, but it was also half the size.

My only real criticism is that you can't really adjust the shelf spacing. We've had to end up storing the vodka in the fridge because there aren't any shelves in the freezer big enough to stand it up, and it decided to leak lying down. It's a tough life.

As other reviewers mentioned, it does make some noise when making ice or dispensing water, which initially was loud enough to scare the cats. But cats are idiots and they got used to it and so have I, so that isn't really an issue now I've had it for about 6 months. And apart from the water pump, the fridge itself is whisper quiet, so I could care less about 3 seconds of pump noise in the middle of a Netflix binge when I don't have the semi-constant compressor noise in the background. It's the best fridge I've ever owned.

Happy BUT – I have had my fridge just under 3 months now. There is a slight dent already on the door. Considering I'm the only one living here. Not a rough person. I've had to defrost it twice to fix the water dispenser. The defrosting is a very wet process. All in all the inside is lovely. Great, but very noisey water pump – It is a great fridge, but...a few things: getting used to having no handles (doors are heavy - so don’t get your fingers caught when closing - ouch). The fridge is well sized, and easy to use. Ice dispenser can be heard, though tolerable. It could be heard through out the house, whilst somewhat deafening in the kitchen. Even my iWatch alerted to me that constant exposure may result in hearing loss... will admit, it wasn’t the fastest to fill my pint glass. It appeared the water pump sound reverberates off the back and side wall, amplifying the sound. Overall, a design flaw. After a 2.5month engagement with LG (replace water pump, get their techs to review video) they refunded our money and are going to take back their fridge. We will still consider LG again, and appreciate that they tried to resolve the issue, and and happy they will refund our money - even if it took longer than I would have liked.
