After a few washes the dishes are dull and lost their sheen/smooth surface. They now stain easily and more food sticks to the because of this so have to wash again after the dishwasher. Very disappointed in this product. Show details
Follow-up · I use dishwasher tablets (earth or skipper), standard wash. I purchased these in March 2024 and they have progressively got worse. I have other brand crockery that has not had the same issue and come out of the dishwasher sparkling clean, so it's not the dishwashing - it's the product.
Purchased 2 dinner sets and 8 noodle bowls at Myer. Within 3 months, glaze came off, silver cutlery marked them with grey stripes, multiple cracks when pouring hot liquids in them (eg. noodles) and chips around the edges. The manufacturer did offer a replacement, and were helpful, but I had lost the receipt. Ended up getting refunded from Myer,… Read more
won't ever trust the brand again considering the long history of negative reviews for this product and the fact the quality issues are still unaddressed.
I bought 10 pieces of everything in the cashmere rim dinner plates, entree plates, bread and butter plates and bowls. I’ve just noticed today that the bread and butter plates and some of the dinner plates are doing the same thing. The glaze is gone… Read more
all Motley. I’ve tried cleaning it and it won’t come off so I’m going to have to dig around for the receipts and take them back to Myer I guess or I’ll contact Maxwell Williams direct.
Follow-up · Maxwell Williams have without hesitation replaced all of my faulty plates without any qualms. Hopefully these ones will be okay. I will let you know if they are not.

Beautiful, but disappointing – I bought 2 M&W Cashmere Coupe Resort dinnersets to make up a service for 10 people and added cereal bowls from the open stock range to match. Despite the rather negative reviews here, I had thought it couldn’t be that bad as quite a few people from my friend groups recommended this range. Don’t get me wrong, I love the simple clean lines of the… Read more
Coupe Resort range, they are not heavy and they stacked ok (not as nicely as Corelle) in my dishwasher.
BUT the quality isn’t great. Out of the box, a number of the plates and bowls have feet that feel rough to touch where they ought to feel smooth. And barely a month into using the set, the glaze on the edges of a few have worn off in spots and feel rough, and a small chip has appeared in one cereal bowl. “Fine bone China” ought to be tougher than this!
This is just after 3 weeks use after opening the set. I really do wonder how long this set will last.
We wash everything in the dishwasher and are pretty gentle with our dishes, considering I still have the first 2 (cheap) china noodle bowls I bought on setting up home, and these 2 bowls in pristine condition are older than my 2 children who are in their early 20s! In fact, our cats’ 80 cent IKEA bowls are still in perfect ‘as new’ condition after 10 years of daily use. See photo.
I’m glad I bought this on sale, and didn’t pay the full price of close to $500 for the M&W Cashmere set.
Hmmm maybe I should just put together a dinner set from the IKEA 80 cent glass plates range. At 80 cents a piece, 4 pieces per setting for 10 people would cost just $32!
I bought a 16 piece setting and was so impressed I bought another later – I don't know what others are talking about but my set is fabulous. No issues and I've had it a few years now. I have never had any cutlery mark it. Cutlery must not be of good quality if it does. And I don't have kids. Who knows...... But I am very happy. I purchased 2 sets of 12 pieces. Show details

Superb customer service! – I purchased 2 sets of dinner services earlier this year and several plates and a couple of side plates lost their luster and had a bluish stain. When I rang there was no hesitation in sending out replacements. They were shipped promptly and I am delighted to have all my beautiful dinner service looking shiny again.... and I have some spares for breakages now. Awesome work M&W! Show details
Salt & Pepper Mill – After many years of perfect service, the metal grinders in our salt & pepper mills have finally worn out. I contacted Maxwell & Williams Australia to see if replacement parts were available. Their customer service department was extremely professional. They informed me that the model is out of production and offered to replace the set (cost… Read more
free). I selected a suitable replacement from their current collection and it is being sent through the mail as I type this. What amazing customer service and 'rock solid' guarantee. We have quite a lot of Maxwell & Williams kitchenware products in our house and in my view they are keenly priced, of very high quality and have a great warranty. I have no hesitation in recommending Maxwell & Williams products!
Love my teapot – My teapot is the perfect size for me at work, everybody comments on how good it looks and when I dropped the lid and broke it, the lovely ladies at support got a replacement one to me very quickly, I can't be happier. Show details

Bowls Crack with hot soup – I bought 2 dinner sets of cashmere blue bells about 10 years ago. Since then I have had 3 bowls hairline crack which I could hear whilst serving hot soup. I called the company but they said this could have been caused due to use over the years being knocked etc. In over 50 years it has never occurred with any other bowl ever not even cheap ones…… Read more
so for me these are not of the high quality expectations I had to last many years. Especially with the amount of money I paid for them.
DO NOT BUY – Recently spent AUD 1100 on the Maxwell Calvino. Got a bag that has less leather than by tissue box. Awful product. Not even worth complaining. Bit the bullet and ordered Frank Clegg at AUD 2200. Maxwell Williams should be banned as a brand. Absolutely crappy quality of leather, and chucked in the bin. Cannot even leave a review on their website. Maxwwell Williams is scam. Avoid it. Show details
Good design, bad durability – We got this set 2 years ago, and there is now a chip in almost every plate and saucer. We use them regularly and do put them in the dishwasher, but we don’t have kids and aren’t particularly hard on our dishes. I love the design, appearance and sizes of this set, but am very disappointed in the lack of durability. Could not recommend to anyone who wasn’t prepared to treat them as fine china. Show details

Terrible. Grey lines on plates – After 1,5 years of using the surface is scratched, grey lines on the plates. I bought a full set in The Netherlands, 12 of each, it costed me around €750,-. Show details
Never again – I ordered the Charlton dinner set from airmiles. Within a week of use a dinner plate cracked in half just by serving spaghetti on it. They were great at replacing it. Today I made a cup of tea and the coffee mug cracked in half. These dishes are completely unusable. Show details

Problems with glaze – I replaced all my white basics with cashmere and have continual issues with dinner plate glaze. After a few months it is ruined. Doesn't matter how the pates are used or what dishwash brand detergent is used. Some of them were replaced under warranty, but I have had to replace more since. I have replaced all the plates, which didn't last 2 years.… Read more
All the side plates, bowls and mugs seem to be fine though, so I don't understand why it keeps happening to the dinner plates. As much as I love the style, I could not recommend.
Older range better – Have had white basic stuff for over 10 years with no problem. Bought some individual plates 12 months ago & they are slightly larger & don’t fit in my Bosch dishwasher! What a pain! I need more but don’t trust purchasing these larger plates again! Show details
Waist of money – Bowls cannot be used for anything like tomato soup, add to it capsicum, blueberries, so what's the point of having them, dishwasher does not clean coffee or tea stain without manual scrabing. Show details
Poor quality – After many years of service, decided to replace “White basics” dinner service. Opted for the cashmere range as I was told it’s better quality and will last longer. After 2 months the glaze has worn of at least half of the plates and knife marks can be seen on most of the dinner plates. Wanted to return the whole lot, but the shop will only replace the damaged ones (as I bought them individually). Waste of money. Going back to trusty White Basics. Show details
Maxwell Williams Cashmere - Terrible !!! – I have gone through 2 lots, returned the first after the glaze on the dinner plates basically disappeared after 2 months... tried another lot wondering if it was a bad batch exactly the same after only a month. The shop assistants can't believe they say they've never had any returned, either they're not being truthful or people just don't bother… Read more
to return an inferior product. Don't get me wrong, the staff were awesome and could definitely see the problem and had no issues refunding.
crazing & cutlery marks on glaze – Suddenly I don't feel so alone. Bought Cashmere 12 place setting (not cheap) and glaze has vanished leaving horrid marks on the china. Particularly bad in cups and bowls. On top of that, I have only 4 cups and bowls left - wonder why? Took photos as sad reminder of money down the drain. Wrote to M&W, waiting for reply.
Shame Maxwell Williams – We bought two of the cashmere fine china dinner sets approximately 2 years ago. Looks like we have the same problem as others. Bad crazing on plates and bowls . The product is really bad and I'm not surprised they haven't had a product recall as I think it's warranted. Never again would I buy them and certainly steer others clear of their products.
I love this design of Cashmere Mansion – I really like the design of this dinner set. I don't know if it's just me but I find the plates with the flat bottom so easy to eat from and the little lip helps with run away peas etc. The bowl shape is also nice and fits more than it looks like it should so is great for curries etc. Show details
Never again – I was washing a plate from their Kimono range which snapped in my hand and sliced down into my thumb joint which needed medical treatment. Proper sensation has still not returned after six months. I noticed some plates look like they've had cracks and have been repaired. Tonight i have discovered another bowl that is still together but has a… Read more
huge crack. Very dangerous. If this was as an elderly person with thin skin i believe the injury would have been much worse.

Would not recommend as true fine china should stand up to the test of time – I purchased the cashmere 'Petal Pastiche' as it was such a pretty dinner set & is considered fine bone china. My previous dinner set was Mikassa which I had for 28 years used as my everyday & good dinner set. I only purchased another fine bone dinner set as after 28 years I wanted a change not due to marks, chips, fading as it was still in… Read more
excellent condition. However the Cashmere dinner set has been terribly disappointing as many pieces no longer have a shine and black cutlery marks are now the new feature of this 12 piece place setting. I can't comprehend how this can be considered fine bone China? We have had this dinner set less than 5 years & looking to discard & purchase another Mikassa setting as at least we can trust in the quality of this Japanese manufacturer - very disappointed by this product.
Disappointed yest again! – This is the second Maxwell Williams dinner service I have bought, and I decided to buy the more expensive Cashmere range, I had the basic range previously. After just a few months I have stains and streaks on most of my plates. I will return these to Myer, but not sure what to buy that is better quality? Any suggestions?? Thanks
Serious health concern – Just like all the other reviews below - glaze washing off my cashmere dinner set. It became chalky and porous. My main concern is that my family have been digesting the glaze ! Glaze can contain dangerous chemicals such as lead. I had a sore throat and neck for a period of time. The doctor tested me for everything from thyroid to tonsillitis but… Read more
couldn’t find the cause. I changed every brand of tea , toothpaste, sugar etc to try to find the cause. In the end I realised the glaze problem on the mugs could be a factor in my health issue. I stopped using the mugs and dinner set and my throat got better !
I spoke to Myers and they happily refunded my 12 piece setting - regardless of the fact that I have had it for more than 2 years. I think this product should be recalled due to health concerns. I would never buy anything from Maxwell and Williams again. I have kept a piece of the China to be tested incase anyone in my family have any long term issues from this. Very concerning !
Love this item – Great dishes. Light weight and strong. Very happy with the quality and will buy them again. Wash up perfectly and slim line . Great item highly recommended for everyday use
Not a durable product – I bought two dinner sets 3 years ago. Sadly the glaze is very cracked on at least half of the set.. I'm unwilling to replace the pieces with more MW/Cashmere and feel like I need to start again! Very disappointing.
Nice – 13 March 2018 I bought two M&W Charming dinner sets as well as a few extra pieces...eight each of noodle bowls, sweet dishes and entree plates. I am a bit disappointed that the entree plates are noticeably a different colour. I am also disappointed that I couldn't get extra entree and sweet plates to make 12 settings...I didn't think they'd… Read more

My product is standing the test of time...to date: two breaks, one chip, no scratches, no crazing...I got it November 2015.
Sadly had to return - glaze is the problem – In late November 2017 we purchased (from Myer) two M&W "Cashmere" 18-piece dinner sets (dinner plates, side plates and soup/coupe bowls), plus an extra 12 entree plates, 12 cereal bowls, 8 cups and saucers and 6 conical coffee mugs (total >$600). This was to be our new everyday better-quality dishes. Previously we had used white Johnson's Bros.… Read more
settings which have lasted us 20 years but we could no longer buy extra or replacement pieces so we decided to go the whole hog and buy the Cashmere dinnerware, the benefit being extra pieces can be purchased separate in case of breakages (or extras for parties etc).
After just 6 weeks of gentle use, the glaze on every piece we used had deteriorated to a patchy, dull, "squeaky" and streaky finish. They were unbearable to touch; a sensation like scraping your nails down a blackboard from just handling the dishes. And the sound/feeling of using cutlery on it was also terrible. Given that 20 years of dishwasher-ing our Johnson Bros set had not degraded it's glazing one bit, we knew it was not anything we were doing incorrectly.
I contacted M&W on their website, described the problem and was advised to return the dishes to Myer. I packaged everything up, returned it to Myer and immediately received a refund.
I was told that M&W had had a 'bad batch' sometime in the last year, and other people had had the same issue. The sales lady however also mentioned she had been using a set of Cashmere dinnerware for 23 years with no problems at all. So I guess we were unlucky!
My search for a good quality, properly glazed everyday white dinner service continues :-(. I thought I'd found a suitable alternative with the Alex Liddy dinnerware but have just read similar bad glazing reports!
Knife marks and dark stains – Purchased M W Casmere Miami Beach for beach house. In spite of occasional use glaze quality dreadful. Grey knife marks and grey marks on outside of bowl. Not fit for purpose.
Lovely and brand new – I too had a variety of Maxwell and Williams basics that were old and worn. So I just purchased two "Maxwell & Williams Cashmere Classic 16 Piece Coupe Dinner Set" sets and 8 entree plates. One bowl broken on delivery, being replaced now. Other than that they look great. Based on other reviews here, I will watch their condition over a couple… Read more
of weeks and I will take photos to track their condition. At the moment I am very happy, they look lovely.
Disappointed with white cashmere china – My White cashmere china has what looks like grey cutlery markings on dinner & bread & butter plates . I do not have any cups/ mugs - fortunately!! Very unsatisfactory product.
cashmere set great – I must be the only one who loves this dinner set,I purchased mine about 8 years ago and it is still shiny, all in tact even after a few bangs and looks brand new,Maybe the quality has changed since then? But i am very happy with my set
Maxwell Williams basic white – Maxwell white classic dinner sets are pathetic, my children gave me 2 four piece setting for Mother's Day last year and now they have chips on nearly every second item as my children are adults there is no reason for the chips and I am very disappointed. My name is Jeannine mansell [private information removed] phone number 0407486973 .
Disappointed – I purchased 2 Cashmere dinner sets as I really liked the style, not on sale either, unfortunately most items have lost their sheen, they have a developed a bluish opal like mark and worst of all they stain, I always rinse before placing in dishwasher, only use liquid, but they still come out stained. The mugs have black marks from stirring with a spoon. I will NEVER purchase a Maxwell and Williams product again.
